Alright prokillers, here's your chance to school somebody who will actually appreciate it.
Quick backstory; Last time I played an FPS in PVP was when Marathon was hot property, so some of my problems may just be because I'm really rusty.
Anyway, what's the deal with PVP in Destiny? I feel like I'm just doing it all wrong...every time I blink somebody gets me with a one-shot kill and it doesn't seem to matter much what weapon they're using, or what I'm trying to do to stay alive. None of my weapons feel anywhere near as powerful as what the other team is using. Honestly I really want to like the Destiny PvP experience, because I've got a sentimental attachment to Bungie and this game is lots of fun for me in PvE.
So help me out. How do I get the most out of this game? I've got military experience (which basically boils down to having a great deal of training in following instructions) and lots of time to kill once the game ships (retired), so if you folks can boil this particular PvP system down to some basic tactical and strategic elements I'll be able to pick up on it and have fun with it, but right now I'm feeling pretty worn down after having the brakes beat off me repeatedly in the beta.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts (and for the inevitable insults from the kids table).
p.s. Don't think I'm blaming the game...obviously people are winning at PvP, so the system works...I just down understand how it works yet, so I'm not one of them.

For the love of god don't just go running in. Stick around the team picking people off. Sniper rifles are a lot more versatile than you might think. Use a short range scope and practice. Blink is best used on unsuspecting individual enemies. You might be getting killed by a dude you just haven't seen yet (or he's at least reducing your health enough for the guy you CAN see to finish you off) Basically practice with every gun on every map. You are going to die a lot but you'll learn the mechanics of it soon enough. Practice is the only remedy. Remember to have fun though above all else.

You gotta get gud scrub.. Nah I'm just kidding. Practice makes perfect man. And even still just have fun with it because skill doesn't matter in crucible.
-
crucible is easy. dont go in expecting to be the shit. its like beer, after six they all taste the same. you need to get your 6pack. get your games in. more games more practice. when you first started this game up you probably sucked in comparison to your skill level now, being an avid fps player, or not. its just natural, more hours spent, hours return on investment (ie match quality). go in learn maps, get adjusted to using your periphals different. pvp players move to no set pattern. you wont win every engagement but eventually youll notice every engagement and from there will start winning encounters. just gotta train your eyes and get used to adrenaline under fire. dont twitch, breathe, keep calm. most importantly have fun. rejoice in death. its a brand new killstreak for you to go on. its all about learning how to manage while you are in the red, you just have less time to do it. most importantly dont stress dont worry sbout KD. that can be fixed. just have fun dude. have fun! each kill and death is unique. get out there and kill it!

I average 38+ kills per game and have once gotten 50 kills. All I do is blink and use Felwinters. I pick my battles and crouch quite often. I also try to use Hawkmoon or a hand cannon to pick people off

Use an exotic handcannon or pulse rifle

1 ReplyAnswers: 1. Crucible has always sucked. Worst multiplayer Bungie has ever created. 2. there isn't any balance whatsoever and every other week there's an update to change the stats because of people complaining. 3. This game is one big grind, if you want to feel like accomplishing something, play cod

Maybe you can not aim too well. Hints- need to double up on your glasses. If that does not work than just..... Hire your grandma to play for ya.

Along with all this helpful advice, this is one of those "practice makes perfect" situations. When my boyfriend first started playing Crucible, he was lucky if he got 1 or 2 kills. In less than a month, he can get up to 10 in a good match. Now he's learning to use a sniper rifle for the first time, and he's already gotten much better after two days. So, basically, keep playing Crucible until your fingers bleed, and you'll become much better in no time.

All you need is shotgun

Yeah wooh

You've barely played... At all
-
I'm no pro. But i generally learn map awareness before skill. I play control mostly. But i don't really like crucible

1 ReplyRun around with a shotgun and shoot anything that moves. That seems to be what everyone else does.

What idiot bumped this?

I used to be rubbish but have been improving and am normally at least 2+ kd if not more. The main things I think help are Learn the maps - where heavy spawns and where people normally camp to avoid them. Learn when heavy spawns and get it or super a group of enemy there. Land headshots. - crucial for a win. If you're lucky enough to have them use things like thorn, vex, hawkmoon or timurs lash. Or if you prefer use a good scout/pulse rifle. Learn the best maps for shotguns or snipers and use that. Other than that it's common sense like don't run into an area with 4 guys each holding heavy. Then practice practice practice.

3 Repliesguys. this was posted last year... last edit from op was october...

You have to be constantly on the move and know your maps very well. Know where the enemy common spawn points are, and where the heavy ammo drops are. Acquire heavy ammo as much as possible, because a team with everyone using heavy ammo is going to beat a team without that luxury 9/10 times. Keep playing and be patient and you will get better, good luck!

1 ReplyI'm still pretty crappy at PvP, but I saw a tip on Reddit that has been helping me improve my K/D in Control over the last few days (went from .80 average to .98): play defensively. Take the point near your spawn, take B, and defend those two (don't push for the other point). Stay back, keep an eye on your radar, and group up when possible. Also, find a playstyle you like. I've found that Shadow Price, Found Verdict, and Thunderlord as a Defender Titan is my preferred loadout.

Edited by xXx G3TZUM xXx: 3/28/2015 12:00:35 PMSlow your game down is my advice. Seriously...aim for not dying more than 3 times the entire game. Keep your eyes on the blue dots as much as you are watching red flashes. Back off if the blue dots turn to Xs and regroup when they respawn rather than rushing in and dying Also, play IB and get the special/heavy weapons and re-roll them until you get perfect rolls. Learn what a good pvp roll on a weapon is as well. You should know the difference between what makes a strong pve weapon vs pvp weapon Slowing your game down is probably the best place to start. Watch the pace of battle and position yourself to close down avenues of approach (another noob move I see is multiple people covering the same hallway/door/etc instead of one covering the flank...) Hope this helps

Play to your strengths (like melee? Choose gloves that boost melee speed, etc), grab weapons you are comfortable with, and waste some fools dumb enough to stand in your way.

3 RepliesI would also like to ask for advice. I'm in this guy's boat, I'm terrible at destiny PvP.
