Depends on the purpose of your build.
Have an AMD related picture! :3

Made me laugh. :)
-
Why are you asking? Are you thinking of building?
-
No we are buying. We were currently set on a PC with a 4th gen intel i5 processor but then the guy in the store was saying that another computer was better because it had an AMD processor with more cores (of course). A lot of people are saying that intel work setter on fewer cores though. What do you think?
-
Edited by Greene: 1/12/2014 7:08:50 PMHonestly, I think you should build your own! Do you know which Intel CPU and which AMD CPU they were talking about? Specifically?
-
4th gen intel i5. Not sure about the AMD though
-
A '4th gen i5' isn't really that specific... How much would you pay for each?
-
Edited by ~wolfBTM~: 1/13/2014 5:14:25 PMI don't know I honestly don't know hardware... I think the PC with the intel is cheaper but we will need to buy a graphics card separately because it doesn't come with one.
-
Edited by Greene: 1/13/2014 5:19:36 PMWhat is your budget and purpose for the build?
-
We are planning on spending approximately 1500 USD. I believe that is with a warranty.
-
Edited by Ad Hoc: 1/13/2014 11:23:04 PMIt would be cheaper if you built one, but I totally understand where you're coming from. It doesn't matter how good I am at building desktops. If my parents were spending that much money, they wouldn't want me to. This desktop here is well below your family's budget and should be more than enough for what they want to do. BUT, if you want you could buy THIS GPU too, and replace that with the one in the Dell I posted above. I compared measurements and it should fit easily. That leaves you with enough money to pick a Monitor, keyboard, mouse, warranty, etc on the Dell page I posted. If you have any problems installing it just PM me. I love helping people with this stuff! EDIT: If you end up using the R9 270, make sure to uninstall the Nvidia drivers on the Dell before installing it. EDIT: The graphics card that comes with the Dell is good enough to play some entry levels games, but the R9 270 will play most of what you want on High to Ultra. Plus, it has low power consumption.

Thanks for the advice.
-
Nice budget! Is this for gaming?
-
Edited by ~wolfBTM~: 1/13/2014 5:44:44 PMWell not completely. We are buying it because we need a new one (the old one is very old (its graphics card is from 2006)) desperately. I will be using it for gaming and school until I get a laptop, but my parents are really only buying it for basic purposes (email, and my mom is writing a book in word). I may have manipula- I mean suggested to them that it would be good to get a more expensive one so it runs better and it would allow me to play better games. But we aren't building it, we are buying it already built. Besides I don't know enough about hardware to build. That is why I need advice.
-
You could get a rig which could max out ANYTHING for that amount. If you built it yourself. I could recommend you some videos that show you how. It would take you two hours at most to do it, and it's a really fun experience!
-
Not this time because we are days from buying it. My parents don't want to go through the hassle of building either. Send me the videos though because when I get my own PC in the future I will likely build it and I could watch some now for some prior knowledge.
-
This guy is pretty good. Seriously man, I highly recommend you build you own. $1500 on a custom built rig can get you some serious performance. Depending on its use you might even be able to put an i7 in there.
-
Yea we are looking at other ones too now. The one we are looking at now has an i7 with 12gb RAM and 1TB hard drive for about 1000 dollars. I forgot to mention part of that 1,500 is for a monitor. We are planning on an HD LED 23" monitor. Also the 1,500 was kinda generous of an estimate. But same general idea.
-
Let me show you a build for $1500!
-
Haha I will build my own PC in the future. It is my parents who are making this decision. Not me.
-
Just let me show you what you could potential have! Please!
-
For future reference I guess. They are already set on a pre-built though. But I could definitely use more information for future use.
-
I will give you the details of a $1500 build when I have the time. Why did you have to catch me now? I'll be sure to give it to you tomorrow.
