There are plenty of not only old D1 maps, but also D2 maps that made pvp infinitely more enjoyable.
Here's a list that aren't accessible in D2 currently.
Asylum, Bastion, Black Shield, Blind Watch, Crossroads, Emperor's Respite, Equinox, Eventide Blue, Firebase Delpi, Firebase Echo, First Light, Floating Gardens, Fractured Expanse, Fragment, Gambler's Ruin, Iarus, Last exit, Legion's Gulch, Memento, Pantheon, Retribution, Sector 618, Skyline, Skyshock, The Drifter, The Dungeons, The Fortress, Thieve's Den, Timekeeper, Vertigo.
Remind me why D2 has the same dead maps in rotation every time?

They changed the lighting engine in Beyond Light so all maps that were sunset would have to be remade with the new engine. Unfortunately, it's not just a matter of unvaulting them but would take the same amount of work as creating new maps. Personally, I'm more bothered by the ability spam, the ever increasing number of cheaters and the 50 different matchmaking parameters applied to the low population which lead to insane desync and lag.

2 RepliesEdited by FlareFL: 3/23/2026 6:50:17 PMThey were very busy making four maps for the Marathon over the course of five years. Making content is "hard".

1 ReplyThey really would need to do much in PvP to keep players logging in ! Cycling maps from d1 and older maps great idea ! Some new weapons to chase just PvP ….new modes . Upgrade of control 🤷🏼♂️ But nah nothing ! Same with gambit ….they could have changed a few things and people would carried on playing gambit but it died out . Songie really do just go all in on marathon….you never ever put all your eggs in one baskets!

Some aren’t around because they weren’t updated to the new lighting system that was introduced a few years back (I.e. Retribution) . Some were taken out or limited because they were bad (I.e. Disjunction).

Fragment and the Fortress are accessible though...
