I’m almost positive this is because they are trying to combat cheaters. If you could launch it solo, cheaters could launch it solo and fly through the dungeon, taking away legitimate placements. Requiring a full team acts as collateral, that way a cheater will hopefully think twice, since now they risk getting their friends banned too. Solo cheaters did this for normal DP contest. Btw, both bosses are impossible with even 2 players. I cleared contest earlier and both bosses were pretty rough damage checks. Before you mention it, yes this is an alt account.
