Casual thoughts from a casual player

Been playing destiny since D1. Started playing the new episode the day it was released. Got through the first part down to the planet. Did one of the first spider go get something for me talk to all the people quests. Then thought I need to go to the tower and see what’s going on in my post box. I open up the portal (which took me time as an older player to figure out when it was initially brought out). And noticed it was different. Luckily it wasn’t too much of a learning curve. Was confused by the orders and the different quest pathways at first. So I listen to Aztec cross and his walk-through. 15 minutes into his walk-through my head was spinning with all the different types of new currencies and different ways to do things. Issue 1: Why change the look of the portal? See my previous comments on the learning curve. Issue 2: Probably gonna get hate for this, but they should’ve brought back the power grind. Instead of dropping people‘s light raise the light 550 points just like they’ve done every season in the past. They pretty much fix the portal issues by the last three weeks of last season so it wasn’t horrific like it was the first couple weeks. I felt it gave more of a reason to play i.e. better loot, higher light…. Issue 3: 1980s text boxes for multiple characters. I could understand it last season since we didn’t understand what the aliens said, and you could still hear them. Make a noise in the background. But if they couldn’t get voice actors for the various new NPC‘s, they could’ve just had members of the bungee team, Voice the NPC’s to greater effect than a text box. Issue 4: how much negative feedback does Bungie get that they feel the need to completely change parts of the interface and bounty quest every season? This is just cause I miss going to the gunsmith and having a reason to grind out some bounties otherwise there’s no reason to even go to him other than any exotic quest that I haven’t completed. That’s pretty much the same with the crucible guy. Final issue: I can’t figure out where to view my currencies. I keep getting things in the Lawless frontier from the little boxes you can destroy, but I can’t really keep track of what I got, but that’s probably a me thing. It would be nice if it was in the player interface sitting next to the strange coins or in the empty boxes that are above the inventory items. Final thought: on my first mission for the different factions as my ship took off from the mothership, I noticed my character was standing inside the hanger Bay as the ship that I was supposedly on was flying to the planet. I didn’t see it on the next time I got on a ship and went to the planet 😀.

  • Hey there Guardian! Regarding your issue keeping track of the Lawless Frontier currencies, there is a tab to view. When in the Lawless map screen (one that shows the planets), go to the left (left d-pad button on controller). This will 1st show you your active contracts tab by default, but there is another tab for currencies (R1/L1 to scroll on controller).
