Freelance trials team comp algorithm?

Not really sure if there is a specific set of preferences/balances when creating teams in freelance trials, but if there is, it’s crazy busted. I can tell from the outset whether I’m going to win a game or not. The players on the other team will have adept messenger+drang and adept eye of sol + Shayura, and my guys are running sweet business and witherhoard. Couple of times now I’ve played games where the opposing team had three sweats and I had people who were <level 50 in the season. It seems like there [i]should[/i] be some balancing mechanism at play, but feels like there isn’t. It would make sense if matchmaking grabbed 6 freelance players (based on wins on their card), then built the teams mechanically from there, balancing trials k/d, or times gone flawless, or SOMETHING. trials freelance team composition is crazy broken. I love the idea of freelance; it’s way more casual. It allows me to do a run on a card without trying to coordinate with my buddies or bear the toxicity of LFG people. But the often one-sided teams take a lot out of the experience.

    • It’s random and it should remain that way. Don’t blame matchmaking for your losses. When it’s random you are the only constant in the matches and you can improve to carry.

      • Same. Complete trash teammates every other time I played in freelance, but last night I went flawless on my first card. Won the first 4, lost my mercy, then won the next 3, winning the last game 5-0. Part of it was probably because no one cared for the machine gun, but man some of those games were not close, and the variance of enemy and teammate skill was wild.

      • Oh this 100%. Played a few rounds of trials. First match was neck to neck. Felt good. Second was stacked against three people with god rolled deadman’s and perfect stats for trials. It was a slaughter and reminded me why I never touch trials. With SBM crucible and by extension Iron Banner have felt really good to me. Trials felt like throwing myself into a brick wall and expecting it to break.

          Balance of teams is always BS. Like you said, you can predict the outcome before the match has even started. With a high degree of accuracy. This last Banner felt really, REALLY good. They need to do more of whatever they did there to all of crucible.

        • The algorithm actually will seek out to find 3 solos and pair them against a stacked team that is doing recovery or carry. Visually they will appear to be not mic’d up.

          • YES the matchmaking needs fixing it’s a pile of dog mess. 💩 3x flawless games ruined cos of the match ups. (that’s only this week) got a flawless but hey one guy disconnected on the enemy team.

          • I got so many cards ruined at game 7 the same way! I have to play with players who finish the whole game with 50 total damage against stack of three

          • There isn’t any it’s basically like playing the lottery . It’s ridiculous that actual “end game pvp” as try hards themselves call it , you can have a run through of all 7 matches vs blueberry newb teams. There is zero guarantee of a tougher team or even equal level.. It doesn’t seem very “end game” when you have possibility to cruise through facing all lower skills imagine “endgame” PVE like GMs, Raids , Dungeons and every attempt difficulty is random and chance you get mostly red bars instead of bunch yellow bar champions …

            • I dont think bungie should try to artificially balance it because then the one good player in the lobby who deserves to go flawless gets stuck carrying 7 games in a row.

              Went flawless with witherhoard in freelance this week. It's pretty decent in small maps when zone control is active. Although I probably would have gone flawless regardless on a Monday. Also, no balancing in freelance. It's card based (or as close as it can get to it) and that's it.

              • It's very busted. I didn't go flawless this weekend, but there was a guy that went flawless in my game. And 2 win/multiple loss card players when I had 5 wins. I think they should shelf Trials and focus on the new ranked mode instead.

              • I’d agree based on last week and this week. Most of the matches are one-sided. May be they try to make freelance less fun so people wouldn’t miss it ? Anyways freelance is leaving for good and I might not play trials anymore. The FTMM isn’t strict

                It's balanced by wins on the card which is how trials works. Freelance you should plan on winning rounds while 1v3. If that's not your plan well 🤷‍♂️ good luck. [spoiler] adept guns don't mean "sweat"[/spoiler]

                • Hard agree. In freelance I hit game 7, 3 times and got Timmy no thumbs, while playing against d2 $weat$quad I mean not ever a single good player on my side also my team mates WHERE NOT ON THERE FLAWLESS GAME.
