Can you please stop making quest steps that require players to compete with one another in a COOPERATIVE ACTIVITY

The Memory of Vell Tarlowe requires you to get 25 fragments on powerful enemies in nightmare hunts matchmaking is on so you cannot enter the activity without other players being paired with you fireteam kills by other players do not count for you - I shouldn't want to murder my fireteam to do dumb quest steps like these - I also shouldn't have to manipulate matchmaking so I can jump in solo or find a group to farm them with either cause I know someone is going to bring that up - I know I'm overreacting but it doesn't change how frustrating it is when people just kill steal from you and proceed to bag afterwards or not revive anyone - It doesn't promote teamwork at all it only breeds selfishness among blues - yes this quest is not long but if anyone remembers the ace of spades quest before it changed where you had to get invader kills with only a hand cannon against 3 other people on your team as well as the invader it was hot garbage especially for people not good at pvp - Thank you and have a good day

  • Yea it’s dumb, the whole team should count. Requiring you to get final strikes on things just makes the experience horrible. I’ve had so many times where I just jump bad or get sniped by like 5 things at once the moment I peek from cover only to have the others just keep running right past me to kill everything whiteout even glancing at me, leaving me behind to fight the Wanteds alone so they can kill all the adds, etc. if I wanted to play against other players, I’d just play pvp (I don’t wasn’t to, I hate it) These things are supposed to be TEAM activities, but people can’t be a team because then it takes FOREVER to finish bounties.... Even if they just made team member kills etc just count for like half it would be something...

  • I never did understand this. In a co-op activity, you should be working together, not fighting over each other. A big reason why so many ask for solo strikes isn't because they don't like multiplayer, but because they don't like having to aggressively fight for kills to do bounties or quests. The more modern MMO's got the memo a while back, and made it to where progress is shared in a group - if they get a kill, it counts for you as well and vice-versa. Not sure why Bungie does not do this, as this would encourage group play more by allowing tasks to be completed faster in a group as opposed to slower.

  • Came here to create the same thread. However, you're kinda pointing at a wrong direction. Nighmare hunt itself is broken (a bit). This small quest is just the tip of the iceberg. There are way too few enemies. Redbars especially. Doing dailies there is just a nightmare. Because of the nature of this activity, you want to just speedrun through using nades and special/heavy.

    • Fully agree that’s the fkn worst . Bungie has been doing this so long now with these bs quests I don’t think it will ever stop. If only there was a simple no matchmake option. Obviously too hard. It took them how many years to add matchmaking to nightfalls . Sigh

    • Is this still a thing? I thought that Bungie would have learned from the whole Solstice of Heroes nonsense that they would have fixed this sort of thing but I guess that was too reasonable for Bungie.

      • I was running a strike yesterday and my teammate died. I stopped killing ads to go back and revive him. I die shortly after and guess what the douchbag just runs past me. I'm just sitting there watching the timer run down thinking what an ass wipe. When I revive I just leave. If they want to 2 man it I'm going to leave them to it. I get it though all the bounties I had were the same requiring me to get kills with what ever. Teammates who slay out slow down and frustrate you while trying to complete them. Bounties in Co operative game play should be more Co operative focused not turn it into competition for kills mode.

        • I absolutely agree, I'm currently on a quest step which requires melee kills in nightmare hunts but every time i try land my melee the enemy is immediately or near enough immediately killed by another Guardian...Bungie need to consider making quest steps more considerate.

        • My honest thought on this issue, since we bring it up every single time something like this occurs, yet Bungie never changes anything, is it's a function designed to make sure some people don't get all the whatevers in one run, and therefore have to play longer.

          • Yeah this was not a good idea when you are running with with pugs who have no clue or don't care. Also that one dude that runs through the whole thing just to get to the boss. Bungie never learns or they just don't care. I suggest lfg and see if other players need to do this step and help each other out.

            • All they have to do is make it so fireteam members can aid in the progress of it. They did it with ratking. I don't know why that isn't standard for literally any pve based activity. The game is pushed as a social game afterall.

            • I feel your frustration as I experienced it as well. I'm glad that the people that have replied to this thread had an easier time in completing the 25 melee kills, but I think they are missing the point of the frustration. This quest step is just a continuation of the underlying issue that a lot of bounties and quests have in this game where they are counter-productive to the activity. They promote and dare I say encourage players to act in a selfish manner and not play the objective or not encapsulate the idea of the team-based activity. I wish that Bungie would take a step back and look at these steps and rethink how they approach completing the objective (whether it's a bounty or a quest step) and make it more of a team approach to completing it rather than an individual player's effort especially if it requires completing any team-based activity. I think a good example of this would be the Rat King Catalyst where it is PvE kills made fireteam members that will advance the objective.

              • It's a MMO game, part the core design is being social. That's it how it works. If stupid people are your issue then make a fire team before even going in make sure everyone can play by your rules and then go do it. If that's to much for you to handle then you need to find a different game, because this game is the way it is and no amount of whining over it is going to change that.
