I made a new/alt account and started a new guardian. Made a Warlock but that doesn't matter for this.
Played the Homecoming mission and then Spark, unlocked crucible and hopped in. Quickplay, mind you.
A level 4 warlock with nothing but white gear.
Very first match: One guy with a Not Forgotten.
My team mates weren't mentally handicapped and it was Vostok so I guess the field was more or less evened and we won the match.
But the very second match: A four stack, with at least one Luna. They completely stomped us and emote'd at the end.
Third match: An ongoing control match. No big teams, only a double. But I entered, as expected on the losing side. I got supered three or four times within the first thirty or fourty seconds and I had no means of fighting back because to this day, almost five years of Destiny total, you still enter ongoing matches without any super energy. Oh yeah, and there were Luna's Howls a plenty too.
Next match: Fairly decent team distribution and no notable amount of pinnacle weapons. Instead all people played super sweaty and tryhard and I lost count of how many Nova Warps on the enemy team got multikills. The alarm sound of the enemy team getting power play after power play kind of made me lose count before we lost around 50 to 150 with four people in my team going negative while only one person in the opposing team was negative and one went 20.0 in KD
The game after that: Ongoing control match again, score was 44 to 97. I decided I was done, for now, and bailed out.
After three matches I got "breaking up those teams for better matches". And it never worked because these kinds of matches and constellations are all you get, even as a fresh player with horrible gear and no abilities to defend oneself.
Bungie, Crucible is in an absolutely abysmal state. Matchmaking is just one of the issues. There are way more of them.
And here you are, revealing patch notes for Black Armory entirely ignoring the immense need PvP has for quality of life improvements resulting in massive frustration only shortly after you took a few right steps with Forsaken. If you omit changes or nerf things for a reason or great master plan then you clearly failed to state or hint and reasons for your actions and should that be the case then you are making a big mistake in gambling with trust not yet fully restored.
And personally, I'm sorry, but I no longer think anyone in the studio is listening. It seems to me now that you sit on your ears and only pay attention when you feel the situation gets dire. The picture I got from the forums and feedback is drastically different from the things you adress or miss to adress. It merely feels like you deliberately or accidentally smoothly move between critique and and feedback. And I think that's just indefensible given the dire situation D2 was in before Forsaken.
Honestly, to this day I think Destiny in PvE and PvP has massive potential, way more than has been utilized in any content drop or QoL fix. And after so many years seeing this potential left behind unused is frustrating and irritating.
I wanted to get this off my chest because, I guess at the core of it all, I like Destiny. And I like playing it. But I think that not adressing issues and problems and pretending that everything is fine does not help. Neither in the short and certainly not in the long run.

Bungies solo-queue matchmaking is absolute dog shit and literally why most of my friends list quit the game well before black armory. They're not going to change it, seriously, just find a game that you actually enjoy playing. They're either incapable, incompetent, or the platform your on does not support a large enough player base to provide enjoyable matchmaking.

2 RepliesSorry, but your testing is far from scientific. Sample size is too small, and there’s too many unknown variables. You could draw a more accurate conclusion by collecting data over 100s of matches. You need player profile and performance data such as player stats available through the API. You also need data that includes player ip’s and geo-location data. Much of that information is available if you know how to access your router’s logs and list of active connections. You’d want a spreadsheet to record data so you can arrive at some percentages based on a large sample size. That said, I’ve done some of the above. I’ve not collected enough information to make an accurate conclusion, but my gut feeling for quickplay is that matchmaking is simply trying to find a match quickly, regardless of skill or distance to other players. I’ve noticed short term trends change dramatically so that any conclusion based on them can’t be trusted to be representative. There’s no telling what minor changes Bungie could be making behind the scenes, so I don’t think as an individual, I’d ever be able to gather the information needed to ascertain how the present settings are affecting matchmaking. All this data is readily available to Bungie though. What’s lacking from them is transparency. We as players loose trust in the system when it’s not being communicated to us what Bungie’s goals for matchmaking are or what they’re doing to accomplish these goals.

I believe the people in charge of pvp read or are told what the people in the forums are saying, and instead taking the criticism of the state of pvp they get defensive of the work they have already done to it and don’t listen. Instead of putting band aids on this and that they need to sit back and take a look at pvp as a whole and just redo everything, and this will take time and criticism and loss of money because they need to shut down pvp and redo there whole system. But that will never happen so pvp will suck. I don’t even go into pvp I only do gambit and even then I can’t play more than 2 or 3 games till I get so frustrated I quit. I can’t think of any other game that gets me so worked up than Pvp it sucks!😆

I got lucky last night with a 7-game win streak playing solo competitive. Then I lost 3 straight. Had to put the sticks down cause it’s not worth the risk to lose even more points. This is really not a good model if they want to grow the PvP player base. Stop punishing people for losing in competitive. Grant zero points on a loss, but don’t take points away. Not sure who thought that was a good idea, but it’s a turn-off for PvP. And yes, the matchmaking is -blam!-ing garbage.

I have a solution:
nerf fusion rifles!
Feels like somethings changed since the update last week. Last season I did the broadsword quest, mainly solo, had good games and bad games but at least you won some and you lost some. Over the last two evenings I have played probably 15 quickplay games solo queuing, I have won 1 game. Mainly the experience has been 6 solos vs a 6 stack of the sweatiest variety. I can’t remember one game where I wasn’t playing against people with not forgotten. It gets old real quick. I’ve always been someone that never backs out, that changed last night after being put into a game on a side losing by 70 points and being supered 3 times in less than 30 seconds.

34 RepliesEdited by Oh Lawd He Comin': 12/2/2018 7:47:58 AMI am so sick of these threads crying about how bad matchmaking is when they literally just reset EVERYONE'S rank. Why would you make a lvl 4 crucible alt NOW to test the efficacy of matchmaking when every player in the game just had their matchmaking data wiped clean 5 days ago?! I'm sorry if you were not aware of how many people are better than you but there literally is no matchmaking when a season just starts. Everyone is getting placed by the system and in the meantime season 4 5500 glory and s4 0 glory both start season 5 at 0 glory and play together until the better player ranks up. It's not Bungie's fault because this system makes perfect sense, and how people don't have the smarts to put all of this together is beyond me. I'm sure I'll get some half-brained responses explaining how wrong I am even though this is all clear as day without me having to rant here.

It’s almost like if you’re a level 5 with all white gear you get stomped by people

1 ReplyThe most ridiculous part of all this is how their community manager goes to Twitter to brag about how he went in a game of gambit with a fireteam and got 25 invader/invading kills against 4 solo players. Dylan..... it's cos your game is busted. Surely even you guys can see how pathetic this is? It's not something to be proud about. Solo players are consistently matched against fireteams of 4. This means there are plenty of full fireteams and plenty of solo players. How can you NOT see the obvious problem with your game??

Bungie's solution to issues with crucible is to force players to play it for milestones powerful gear. Clan XP milestone was once all PVE activity, but now it's mostly PVP. I expect more milestone activities will go this way because Bungie is desperate to stop the hemorrhaging of players away from PVP and they will sacrifice the loss of the overall player base from the game to attain this.

This post needs a 1000 upvotes. I really like Destiny but the matchmaking is so bad and it's the one thing they've ignored to address for years.
-
While I do think that Destiny should have PvP, the game template simply can't support it. I always have and will, blame the Crucible dev team. I'd like to play it more but they just can't seem to get it right.
-
5 RepliesI don’t even touch crucible and I understand what this guy is saying BUMP
-
Just play rumble. You’ll have only yourself to blame if you lose and if you get matched against a tryhard (or two) you can just third party him. Plus top 3 counts as a win
-
3 RepliesWell the best players in the game complained they had to carry their streams for donos and it got to hard So bungo went to “cbmm” Keep in mind the “crispy” connections they thought they’d be getting aren’t so crispy So now these dudes are still pub stomping, it’s just now easier I’d like to think I’m in the ladder where pvp is pretty easy for me I solo que all the time But Believe me I can see how a new player would be turned off immediately

3 RepliesI tried to get 5 friends to sign up and ALL 5 passed as they experienced what you described.

1 ReplyEdited by GrayEagle: 12/2/2018 4:01:37 AMI've tried playing crucible several times, even after leveling and getting decent gear. It doesn't matter. The matchmaking and entire mode is busted. I once had a game where it was spawning me in the same place over and over again which happened to be right next to the enemy team....so fun. Just had another experience where I was matched against a 6 person team vs 6 individuals....3 games in a row. Threw the last game hard to make sure I wouldn't be continually out matched in every game. I really don't know how hard it is to understand that a 6 person team is going to be in coms...this game has no coms built in so there his a MASSIVE disadvantage to start. Why is this even a an option in MM? Is the game THAT dead where completely disadvantaged games are being put together just to create a match? I never played D1 but I had the understanding that PVP was one of the biggest parts...why does it seem like the biggest heap of trash in comparison to other games? Also, why do people with rare exotic weapons play against others who have NO exotics on their character? There should be better MM to put people in fair matches...or this game really will die.
-
I just got matched in a match half way through with 2 teams of three in the other team we get mercyd then they break the teams up and wow same two teams of three stacks -blam!- you bungie bring on anthem
-
I like your research and statement, good job

The lack of any sort of balancing act in matchmaking is cuvsidered a “feature” by a substantial portion of the PvP community here. And now, it’s become very dull - easily as dull as during the D2 Mida/ Graviton teamshot days. As always, the best players are partly that good because they optimize away the unpredictable parts of play — gravitating, to one-hit-kill weapons like shotguns or tube GLs or weapons like Luna’s. I’m not saying they’re unskilled - far from it - but part of the skill is eliminating chance from the fight. Dueling isn’t the way to go if you want to win. Jacking someone with a surprise shotgun blast is.
-
While reading this I entered into a match that was already over... "We" (I use that term loosely) lost and with it my win streak... Granted it's not that big of a deal, it's only quickplay... Still kinda jacked though. "Working as intended" - Bungie

Upvote and bump for Bungie reply
-
4 RepliesVery simple. Don't take the side activity so seriously... it's not a pvp focused game and should never become that when it's a loot shooter.
-
3 Repliesmy recent experience is somewhat hilarious... towards the end of the latest I. Ron. Bannerfly, my team of 5 other randos and I got stomped on by a team made of 2 clans/fireteams. eh, fine. afterward, it did the expected "finding better match"... - and started a new game with exactly the same enemy team as before. - with only me and ONE afk rando on my side. - slowly towards the end (mercy, of course) my side was up to 4 people including me. - lol. and late last week in Gambit, got stomped by a fireteam/clan of 3 + 1 rando. eh, fine. after the "finding better match"... yep, you guessed it: - new game with exactly the same enemy team. - this time my starting team was... only me. - super-lol. incompetence, malice, cheating, whatever, who the hell knows. given bungie I'd most likely go with incompetence and blind/willful ignorance, over anything else.

Crucible is pretty trash. Loved it when I see my teammates leave then I get “Error Guitar” a minute later.

Same issues, we ran a 4 stack of ok players and were getting pit against the craziest elites, it was unreal even after 5 straight losses just head to head with all pinnacle weapon users with insane k/d and movement that was mind boggling. And we are all at the bottom rung of competitive, weird stuff.
