SPOILERS FOR FORSAKEN
Using context from the Gambit lore book, quotes in Gambit, the Malfeasance lore tab, and the AoS quest, this is what I've come up with.
From Gambit matches.
Embrace the Darkness. This is what the Taken feel. Revel in this."
How does he know how they feel? Why would a Lightbearer tell us to embrace the very thing we were made to destroy?
From the Malfeasance tab, which is from the perspective of the Drifter.
"Long ago I sought to make a replacement for a weapon called Thorn. And with that? Even the Man with the Golden Gun should have pause."
Golden Gun is a callback to Shin Malphur, whose father was killed by Yor. Shin killed Yor, apparently, and is still hunting the Shadows of Yor. And, who else but a Shadow would try to rebuild Thorn (other than us)?
From the AoS Quest, from the perspective of Cayde.
"You know, getting up and running meaning giving you-know-who another shot at you. Would've loved to see that showdown. Personally, my money was on the man with the Golden Gun."
Another Shin reference. It does say in the Gambit book that Shin is still hunting Shadows. But, Cayde says: "another shot.", meaning they've clashed before. Hmmm....
The Gambit lore book has a lot on the Drifter and his ability to control the Taken.
This is all just speculation, and I could be horribly wrong.
"But Yor died! Shin killed him!"
Yes, but that's just writing in a book. Ana Bray was supposed to be dead. Look now. The Queen should've been dead. Trapped in the Ascendant Realm.

*Doubt*

3 Repliesyou arent special in thinking any of this, matter of fact there is several youtube videos already saying this stuff

The drifter may have once been a shadow, or just wanted to wield the thorn. But hes definitely not dredgen yor. Dredgen was killed by shin and shin is now hunting shadows to put a stop to their cult. The reason that drifter may be an enemy of shin would likely be because of his association with callum.

Edited by DRPete: 9/26/2018 12:27:43 PMHe is not yor, nor is he a shadow. It is mentioned in lore that the drifter went with the shadows of yor for some time, but he didn’t become one. Also take a look at his name: The Drifter. He drifts from place to place, until now. When he started gambit. Giving the man with the golden gun a shot at him. Which is probably Shin malphur (last word guy). Running with the shadows definitely put Shins sights on the drifter. But once again in lore, he didn’t become a shadow.

What I if he’s somehow going to use all the motes to bring Dredgen back?
-
The drifter is definitely not Yor. But I do think he is a shadow

Edited by RingersCheckmate: 9/26/2018 3:19:39 AMI’m fully convinced dredgen yor is dead. Shin malphur took a golden gun to his ass and shot him twice. His ghost won’t want to be rezzing him anytime soon.
plus yor was a titan. I’m 99% sure the drifter is a hunter or warlock. Also, jaren ward is NOT shin’s father. Just a mentor of the light.
At some point, I’m sure the drifter came into contact with the shadows of yor. He describes his group in the darkness grimiore card as “people who thought they looked cool in dark colors”, this makes me think he joined up with them for a bit, but wasn’t really attached to them. Especially considering, y’know, he shot all of them. Shin malphur comes into contact with the drifter and tells him to open up gambit to catch remaining shadows of yor. https://youtu.be/NCEI9jwL_S8 This guy’s got all the lore tabs quoted.

Unless yor had access to some sweet, sweet appearance-changing tech that bungie has been keeping from us so long, I very much doubt it. Yor would be instantly recognisable to many people, given that he used to be famous and beloved before he was infamous and feared.
-
Didnt Yor die lol
-
I mean..he did run with the Shadows for a while, but he’s no longer with them. He’s got his own little secret group now
-
The drifter is not yor. Yor is was a famous titan named rezyl azir (sp?). People in the tower would know his face and his name if he returned.

4 Replies<You should've checked the perspective of Shin Malphur. The Drifter isn't a Shadow, but he's sketchy nonetheless. Shin hopes to use Gambit and the Drifter's dark methods to draw the Shadows of Yor out.>
-
Unless Shin suddenly can't remember the face of his arch-nemesis then there's no way in hell he's Yor.
-
You do know that Shin and the Drifter are working together right?
-
Form what we’ve been given, he was considered a member, just not a full member. He had some connections with them. But in other regards, he is not a Shadow of Yor. If anything, he is willing to let Shin Malphur hunt them down after gambit matches. Gambit is essentially the bait, Malphur is the hook that kills the Shadows
