Gamers don't know what they want

I bought the devil may cry HD collection recently after playing the remake. I had played them before but I decided to take a trip down memory lane. And I noticed a lot of the complaints people had about the remake are complete nonsense. The first game has a ton of problems that the fans just kind of ignore. The combat is dull, the final boss was complete ass, the story was paper thin, and Dante was just a glorified hot topic kid. I like the game but it seemed like fans of the series only liked it because they grew up with it. Then they trash the remake, which was better in almost every way, just because it was different. So this got me thinking of the many things gamers are so idiotic about. I'll list them below. + gamers want remake of a game and get mad if they change anything. But then get mad if they don't change anything. +they hype up a game beyond belief and then get pissed off when it doesn't meet their ludicrous expectations. +they complain about yearly releases being the same thing over and over but then get mad when the devs try to bring in something new. +they think bad games are good just because of the pure nostalgia. These are just a few of a very long list. And I know this isn't just a gamer issue. I see some of the same issues with movie adaptations and TV shows. Thoughts? Edit: to the people saying "but that's not all gamers". Yeah. No shit. You could throw that at me if I were someone who didn't play video games much. But I'm on a forum made by a gaming company, with my psn linked to my profile, on tag called gaming. Use some common sense and tone down your popped collar of righteousness. Edit 2: if I haven't replied to you and you do want to talk then dm me or reply again so I can see it. The notifications are finicky and it doesn't always show that I have new replies when I do.

Yeah. Notice how we go round and round with the snowflakes in this community? Destiny player: "Make exotics great again!!!!" Bungie: "Okay, we buffed the Graviton Lance, Tractor Cannon and some others. Cheers." Destiny player: "Nerf the Graviton Lance. It's not fair. I can't compete....AAAaahahhhhh." Bungie: "Okay, we are going to give in to the tryhards and nerf Graviton Lance." Destiny player: "Nerf the Vigilance Wing. It's not fair. I can't compete.....AAAAaaaaahhh." Bungie: "Okay, we are going to give in to the tryhards and nerf Vigilance Wing." Destiny player: "These exotics suck. They are worthless. Make exotics great again." Bungie: SMH!!!

    • You've described **people**. Not just gamers. Now you see the futility of trying to please EVERYONE. You can't do it. Because the very thing that someone else loves, someone else will hate.....and vice-versa.

EA has recently said the same thing lol. Oh and can't forget blizzards, "you think you want it but you don't". Pure hubris.

        • Seeing as how the first and second game weren't even original games, they can be given a small pass. And no people don't like it for nostalgia (people are more nostalgic for DMC 3 lmao), people liked it at the time because it was something new. Also don't use DmC as a way to push your views on the industry. The game sold so bad Capcom had to bring back DMC 4 to recoup their losses. Gamers do know what they want for this case.

          • See, the problem is (even if you don’t realize it) you’re thinking as though all gamers share some collective consciousness. The simple fact of the matter is, when you make anything for a large group of people, whether it’s apple pie, or a video game, someone will always complain. For example, let’s say we have two avid Splatoon fans. The first, Agent 34, absolutely loves how beating every level with a certain weapon unlocks it as a multiplayer skin, as it adds some fun replayability, and cool looking gundz Meanwhile, our second fan, No.1OOO8, is an extreme completionist, and feels that the game keeping track of what weapons you beat what levels with, makes her want to beat all these levels with every weapon, but thinks needing to play every level 8 or so times is just annoying. So, when it’s time to make Splatoon 3, the devs have to make a choice. Either they keep the Hero Mode weapon system, or they scrap it. If they keep it, you’ll no doubt hear No.1OOO8 complain about it, but if they scrap it, well you’ll no doubt hear Agent 34 complaining. In both these cases, Agent 34, and No.1OOO8 knew exactly what they wanted from the sequel, the problem was, both wanted exact opposite things, so in the end, you may have heard No.1OOO8 wish the system gone, and then hear Agent 34 complaining, and mistake the opposing opinions as hypocrisy, because you assumed the fanbase to be one mind. That addresses your title, and points 1 & 3, but not points 2 & 4. Hype is simply a dangerous thing, simple as that. I wouldn’t call getting lost in hype “stupid”, but rather a human flaw. As for 4, not everyone has the same taste in games as you. A game you thought was bad, some others may have loved, and while nostalgia certainly helps give old games more credit than due, most of the time you have to have loved the game in the first place to have any nostalgia, and if you loved the game then it probably wasn’t bad, at least not to the person who it matters to; yourself. I’d rather play a “bad” game I loved than a “good” one I don’t.

Your argument doesn't hold much weight, the DMC bit I mean... They're old games. Obviously when you compare them to a newer version, reboot or not, you'll come across a plethora of flaws. Same shit can be said of Halo or any other long running series. Second, I don't know if you've ever been on a DMC forum, but the games do get looked at under a microscope, not everyone just blindly praises the games as if they're flawless and I've personally seen people do the exact opposite more than I've seen people do the former. Also, no, the reboot is not better in every way. It has its own share of flaws, some of which are a tad subjective, but flaws nonetheless. I agree about gamers being moronic, but it's actually the outspoken vocal minority that don't know what they want. Using DMC as an example again, I've seen my share of people bitching about this or that already in regards to DMC5 -- over one -blam!-ing trailer that could've been a whole lot worse. But those numbers of complaints are dwarfed by the number of people (such as myself) that are just happy to have a return to the original series.

Peoples point to you have not simply been that what you are talking about is not all gamers, their point is that it isnt even the majority of gamers. Generalizations kind of lose a lot of their impact when not even the majority falls into them. There is also the very simple fact that people are different. One person does not get mad about a pushed release date, and then turn around immediately and say, the pushed back release date is fine. When you see two posts saying opposite things, they are almost always two different people. The people who complain that a certain game is the same every year is more than likely not the same person who complains when te game sees some bigger changes. Just as when the new CoD came out, the people complaining they didnt like boots on the ground, were not the same people complaining previously about wanting a boots on the ground game. Of course a group of people cant agree on what they want, they are human beings, each with their own likes, dislikes, and opinions. Saying gamers dont know what hey want is like saying the voting population doesnt know what it wants because some voted for one party and others voted for another. Each individual person knew exactly what they wanted, and that is the reason they voted the way they did. You have been getting mad at people for pointing out how simplistically stupid your post was, which is by no means their fault. People here have a perfectly fine understanding of the english language, it is you that doesnt know how to effectively address certain groups of people, nor do you seem to have a grasp on the fact that just because a title is given to a group of people does not magical make them all agree with one another.
Then they trash the remake, which was better in almost every way, just because it was different.
The remake was an ego trip for Ninja Theory. It's one thing to re imagine a franchise. It's another thing entirely to have Dante modelled after your CEO. There's a reason why Capcom are keen to forget that game ever happened and why we're going back to Devil May Cry 5 and not DMC2. Just look at the reaction at E3 when the game got announced. Not saying DMC was a bad game. It's just seemed Ninja Theory thought they were gods and could do whatever they wanted with the franchise. Capcom are really at blame for not reining them in and not realising the reaction the game was going to get. It brought Ninja Theory down a peg or two. Then we got Hellblade which was f--king awesome.

                              • I'm pretty sure the main reason pzeopledon't like DmC:DmC is because the developers basically gave their players the finger in the intro. People wouldn't have hated it as much if it was a new game.

"Gamers" come in all different ages, cultures, ethnicites, social backgrounds, etc. It's very short-sighted (and just false) to talk about them as one big group who collectively share one opinion.

                                    • Also realize that the majority of the gamers that complain on forums about video games are a minority... the overly vocal kind that feel they have to spread their opinion as fact that everyone must accept or they will ridicule those with opinions different from theirs. Some complain about one thing... and when that's addressed/implemented into another title, a different group will complain that liked the prior title. The vicious cycle continues
