Why do Titans and Warlocks dislike each other so much?

Is there more to it than just "brawn versus brain"?

  • It’s more of a class stereotype thing all of the classes pick on each other from personality to fashion choice I view it more as an ongoing joke.

  • It’s just stereotyping, all the Class do it. Some Warlocks view Titans as brainless while some Titans view Warlocks as condescending over-thinkers That does spark up a lot of insults and arguments between the two groups, but they typically get along actually. Warlocks and Hunters are the ones with the rivalry, as described in many flavor texts and grimoires Where Titans are considered brainless by Warlocks, Hunters are considered senseless. Hunters often get on Warlocks’ nerves due to carelessness and lack of planning, while Warlocks irritate Hunters with their thought-before-action. Warlocks are all about learning while Hunters are about acting. In fact, Hunters learned Blink from Warlocks but keep it secret because thy can’t let the Warlocks get any bragging rights Titans and Hunters really haven’t seemed to show much quarrel, but since many Titans prefer a solid defense or attack and strategy while Hunters prefer lone wolf venturing, they argue. Also, all three pick on each other about fashion

    • Titans and warlocks are jealous of the superior hunters but they know they cant stand up to them so they just fight amongst each other instead.

    • Shaxx doesn't help. A quote from a Crucible defeat-streak: "Who says, 'Warlocks are better with books than with guns?'!? I did!! ... Rage can be an excellent motivator!" ~Shaxx Honestly though, it likely stems from Titans being the 'historical' Guardians of the City. Then Warlocks come in with all their book learnin' and be like, "Hey, sometimes it's better to learn first, punch later." To which Titans responded, "Punch first! Then punch more!!" Or maybe it stems from the deep rooted distrust of Osiris and the generalization that all Warlocks must be schenniving ((scheming + conniving)) and are not to be trusted.

No. Warlock here. Ever leave your controller on the table waiting for a public event to use the bathroom and you hear it vibrating loudly while you try pee? ...thats a titan not knowing what else to do with their free time constantly punching your body like an ADHD child.. They are just assholes, and I can prove it mathematically :-D

              • Simple the three classes are representation of the classic RPG classes (probably going back to DND if not further but especially highlighted by Dialbo 1 I think) and Warriors (aka Titans) are often at odds with Mages (Warlocks) it's classic dynamics often because warriors in most games are thick headed assholes who want to punch things even when they are smarter while mages are often thinking of ways to do actions with their intelligence but it's not always present.

              • The simple answer? Because Bungie writes it that way. Wei "punch everything" Ning. "Crucible solves everything" Shaxx. Even the way they decided to have Saint fight Osiris. They seem set on playing up the trope that Titans are big, dumb, "act now think later" might-makes-right soldier types. There are exceptions of course. Zavala seems more cautious, more prone to overthinking than not. Ikora "knows more than you" Rey. "Hive-tainted" Toland. Asher "research is everything" Mir. "research is more important than my job" Osiris. Bungie seems to like playing Warlocks as the more cautious, meticulous, scholarly-thinker types. Felwinter seems to be an exception here, in that he seemed more like a fighter (being a former warlord) than a scholar. However, Timur fit the bill. Cayde "I do what I want" 6. Eris "I go were I please" Morn. Even the way they played up Shiro as a scout. They portray Hunters as flippant, authority-hating "act now think never" loners who come and go as they please and cannot be counted on to be there when you need them. Eris was more scholarly than other hunters, though that was more by circumstance than by choice. Bungie created tropes for each class when they wrote the class descriptions. That's fine: players needed some kind of way to easily and quickly identify the hallmarks of each class. The problem is they didn't really built on that or show that the characters can be more than the basic description they were originally given. They've stuck to the tropes as hard as they stick to the unified sandbox, and that does the characters a great disservice. We only have 2 known instances of groups comprising all 3 classes, and them working well together. The first one is Erianna-3's raid team. They all seemed to get along, though it didn't benefit them in the end. The second is the Iron Lords. They apparently got along quite well and worked very effectively together, showing that each class could respect the abilities of the others. But that's it. Every other guardian group we know of has always been comprised of one specific class. The Gensym Scribes & The Praxic Order: warlocks. The Firebreak Order & The Sunbreakers: Titans. The 6 Coyotes & Dead End Cure: Hunters. Bungie would do well to expand on the universe and introduce more composite groups, showing that there doesn't really need to be a rivalry between the classes. the other reason for the rivalry: players. Players push rivalries because everyone has to think they're the best. Personally, I have the most fun when I'm in a team where all 3 classes are covered; gives maximum versatility. The most fun I ever had in Destiny 1 was playing Prison of Elders (or Challenge) with my two buddies: one a Defender, one a Stormcaller, and me a Nightstalker. We could absolutely wreck and it was so much fun. There doesn't have to be a rivalry, but people push one anyway.

                • It's more of a 'philosophy of engagement' than anything else. The idea of strength verses intellegence isn't exactly accurate, since that's a symptom of the overarching conflict. Titans and Warlocks, ultimately, want the same thing. They want to know their enemy. However, the stratagems are completely different. A Titan will want as much hands on, up close, straight up combat and training as possible. Defeat your enemy again and again and again until all they have used was been known, then perfect it. The more you fight means the more you know, and the more you know means the more you'll win. If you win, you learned. If you lost, you need to take the lesson again. This mainly works due to resurrection... since this is a terrible philosophy for a single life beings. A Warlock, however, will do the opposite. Combat and training are indeed important, but it is meaningless to them if you do not understand what the enemy is and what they are. You can defeat a Vex again and again and again and never know what they're trying to achieve. How can you win if you don't know if the enemy has even lost? Death and life are not the only objectives in this line of war. Knowing everything they could ever hope to know about an enemy will always provide the weakness a Warlock needs. Delving into their magics, their weapons, their knowledge will grant you an edge a Titan can never achieve. Of course, this is also terrible unless you're immortal due to sheer time and capacity for knowledge. A Titan makes the most out of his own tactics to beat the strengths of an opponent, a form of adaptation. A Warlock will take the strengths and tactics of an opponent and use it against them, another form of adaptation. Both adaptive, however, both completely different. The 'fight', as one might put it, is just the classic fight that comes between any two paths of strength. They fight to see who is strongest, and will often gawk at the 'weaknesses' of the other. Honestly, that might only make them stronger. It's not a bad thing. And Hunters... They prefer to just negate strengths and tactics. It doesn't matter how strong you are, how smart you are, if you have something slice your neck open before you even know it's there. They avoid, go around, and outmaneuver the enemy. It does not matter how strong you are if you can't land the hit, and it does not matter how smart you are if you can't react in time. The problem with Hunters, as often will be said by Warlocks and Titans alike, is that their strength relies in the weakness of others. If a Hunter is ever surprised, ever sloppy, ever misses, ever takes the wrong step... they won't have the strength to resist, they won't have the knowledge to escape (Cayde, for example, for the sake of argument), and they won't have the chance at surprise a second time. Obviously, you can always have outliers. The Warlock Iron Lord (can't remember her name) was very reminiscent of a Titan. Eris Morn most definitely contradicts the 'won't have knowledge'. Zavala often wants to know as much as possible (usually asking Ikora). But we aren't focusing on that. The 'overall' school of thought are these 'three paths' to success. Each has a theme, each has merit, and each likes to call out the weaknesses of the others. That's why they're at odds with each other. Like with anything. Basically, the simple answer, it's pride.
