Destiny 2

Discuss all things Destiny 2.

Let's face it, there shouldn't even be a Destiny 2...

This game shouldn't exist. Based on how the original Destiny was presented. D2 is pretty much the opposite of what they presented as the "vision" for Destiny. Oddly, The Taken King/Rise of Iron were pretty much exactly what people thought the game would be... A game that grows and evolves over time. MORE content added, constantly UPDATED game systems. Characters that we could develop and enhance over time. Were you expecting 3 steps back when you bought D2? A complete disconnect from D1? I mean, of course we knew they had to update the architecture and the original game couldn't last forever. But did you expect there to be NO real connection? No Cosmodrome, Moon, Venus, Mars, Dreadnaught? What? Did they suddenly all vanish after the Cabal? Not even a HINT of the previous locations. How does that EXPAND the game? Asset swapping one location for another? Previous subclasses. Did we all just forget? Shouldn't there be a little bit more old mixed in with the new? Even just a little? We just leaving the plaugelands go? Let the Fallen keep messing with Siva? I mean, we did our part right? Might as well let them have the scraps, get powerful, so we have something interesting to do in the spring. Where is this world? One that moves forward with little consequence from catastrophic events. Oh, Cabal destroyed such and such, welp there goes all of our lore... And then there are the game systems themselves. How exactly could you have shipped D1 with the inventory system in place, let alone be 4 years in and still have no real direction? I, myself, could LITERALLY, not figuratively, design a better inventory system in less than a day, all based on what already exists. And I said DESIGN, not build, but truthfully, the foundation is all there, they just need to implement it fully. You know how I know this? Destiny Sets, and Destiny Item Manager. They use available game data to do pretty much EVERYTHING the actual game inventory system should do. Everything. From sorting to transfers. Updating our collections without having to store shit in the vault, which REALLY should be a loadout manager. A vault does not promote variety, or make it easy to find something new to use. But hey, what do I know. I'm just some guy. I mean, I'm also a software developer, and I do UX design for a living. Optimization of systems for data retrieval and management, but nope, really I'm just some guy who plays video games in his spare time. Not that you need to be any kind of an expert to know that the game should have shipped with the ability to sort by name as the default. Or that being able to remember your previous page, you know something people complained about in D1, might be a cool UPGRADE. I could go on and on. So many things that were part of D1, just gone. No replacement. No enhancement. Nope, just gone. 3 steps back. Destiny 2 is not what we should be playing. We should all still be playing Destiny: Darkness Falls, or some shit like that. Destiny 2 is a marketing trick. That giant 2 you see everyday is their idea of justifying charging you for a "new" game. Except that isn't how it should have been. No one wanted a "new" game. No, what we wanted, and what they presented Destiny as in the first place, was evolution. And the sad thing is, we would have paid for that as well. No marketing bullshit necessary. **Edit** Holy shit. I step away for half a day and you guys just keep on posting. Thank you all, both positive and negative for your responses. Seems like I hit a nerve. Again, all responses are appreciated.

It's ok, they stole us 60/100 bucks selling this scam. Fool me once. End of january will come soon and a certain game killing monsters will launch, that's where a lot of us will move out. Sure, we will take a look at the already paid dlc2, it's paid. But if this is dlc1 i highly doubt dlc2 will be a taken king' s kind of dlc. 2 days at best and we're back killing monsters. Shame, we truly thought this was gonna be our main game for years, a big chapter 2 of a long adventure. Nah, better games will keep us busy with real fun and the feeling it was money well spent without microtransactions or scams.

  • The Taken King felt more like a sequel than Destiny 2 has.

Bungie didn’t just take three steps back from their vision of destiny. They leaped so far back that their vision of what destiny should have been is just a tiny dot far off past the horizon. Horizon, that game is awesome!

      • According to my Destiny tracker I bought the first game on April 3rd 2015 and last played it on April 25th 2015. I lasted less than a month. It bored me. Planets were small, the story was awful, having the grimoire on a website and not in the damn game was laughably pathetic, clans being on a website and not in game was just as bad (even games in the 90's managed to get guilds in the game), the number of people on a planet made me laugh so much I had to walk away from my PS4, the grind was as much fun as inserting pins under my finger nails and i've seen better PvP balancing from half arsed indie games. Fortunately I bought it second hand on Amazon for about £5 so it didn't bother me but to sit there and say we should all be playing that when a hell of a lot of us quit within a year of it launching is a stretch. What some of you think about Destiny 2, some of us thought about the first game. It took several DLC and a lot of players money before the complaints about the game slowed to a crawl and if you didn't see the complaints then your rose tinted glasses must need cleaning. This game may be far, far, far from perfect but the first was just as much of a mess.

        • Makes my head spin how this game has so many puzzling and radical "feel bad" changes from D1. Just looks like destiny but doesn't play like destiny. D1 feels like the sequel to D2. 20-40% slower killing primaries, static loot, no pvp mode choice, 4v4 only, slow movement etc...not to mention the juvenile style writing. It's just bad

        • I completely agree with this. You actually worded it much better than I have in the past. This is like a "Saints Row 4: Gat out of Hell" kind of game. Its an EXPANSION, not a full game. Its almost like a fanfic where its in the same universe, but its a side story that doesnt use the same ground as the original game but has a new part of the universe to explore with the same characters. Or like a Destiny spin off.

        • Maybe cut the marketing and advertising to 1/4..... How much time did it take designing those commercials not even in the game.

In the past, we'd buy a game and it'd have 30 or 40 hours of content. You could play online against people. Then WoW type of games came along with monthly memberships and games that were 100% social... Destiny tried to marry the two. Make a hybrid. I don't feel that that works. Either shit or get off the pot. Think about this, $14.99 a month ($180 a year) Monthly updates with minor new content added 1-10 hours new game play Quarterly "DLCs" with major content added & 20-30 hours new game play Keep your progress and inventory as you progress through the "sequels" in the years to come. RNG system that has 100% of the items A market system where you can buy anything and know what it is as you buy it. RNG would adjust to the "sequel" you are at, i.e. D1, D2, D3, etc... Real free roam Real time open chat in PvE & PvP You could walk into a PvP match from a PvE area and weapons would adjust from PvE settings to PvP Adjust your difficulty level in PvE & enemies you encounter adjust to you accordingly, Changing weather Aging of your character option as you go through the years online Daily public events Weekly events Leader boards & pro area section for hardcore gamers (turn on/off stat system) Never get more than three of the same random rewards Be able to change your character's appearance unlimited vault space loyalty reward program for continuous membership Greater customization of weapons, armor, ship, sparrow, etc... Smart AI that adapt to you and are more logical and tactical A concrete storyline Anyway, I think this might have been the way to go.

            • A giant isopod is any of the almost 20 species of large isopods (crustaceans distantly related to shrimp and crabs, which are decapods) in the genus Bathynomus. They are abundant in cold, deep waters of the Atlantic, Pacific and Indian Oceans. Bathynomus Giganteus, the species upon which the generitype is based, is often considered the largest isopod in the world, though other comparably poorly known species of Bathynomus may reach a similar size (e.g., B. kensleyi). The giant isopods are noted for their resemblance to the much smaller common woodlouse (pill bug), to which they are related.

              • Well put without being an arse about it all the points are valid as for people saying wait 3 dlcs, they clearly miss the point we shouldn't be having to wait as the developers had 3 yrs plus to listen to the community. And i don't mean the streamers and youtubers as there is a whole lot more people out there that wanted to play and love the 10yr destiny plan. What a joke.

              • When they talked about the mod system, I got excited. I expected a way to get around RNG a bit to deal with some people's complaints about the grind. I expected being able to dismantle weapons and armor to get frames, scopes/sights, perks, and stats that we could take to a Gunsmith or Armorsmith and make our own gear. You wouldn't have to farm for that perfect Grasp of Malok because you could just make it if RNG was giving you trouble.

I agree with many i thought that we could have a chance of going back to see what the cabal did to old spaces like mars, venus, dreadnaught, etc. but its kinda disappointing to see that these destinations may never see a return and also on the topic of expansions i thought every single expansion would be like or equivalent to T.K but i guess i was wrong (Curse of Osiris is that even an expansion,i forgot lol) Edit:I am going to school for software development and i still would make destiny 2 better than a multi-million dollar company by adding what the community wants and not picking things bit by bit here and there like add this little thing even though they say I WANT THE OLD DESTINATIONS BACK.(bungie)"ok lets add the dreadnaught in a cutscene, there you go problem solved."

By 3 steps back you mean 3 DLC less even though it’s a 3 month old game released on the 4th day of the 2nd week of 9th month. Wait till September 2020

                        • I like the fact it gave them a clean slate to work with. Am I happy they ignored forum feedback and years worth of progress. No. Is destiny 2 fun? Yes Is it as good a sequel as it should be? No. They messed up so much of the games core.

                            • My opinion this game is not destiny 2. It should not even be called destiny 2. Destiny was something else entirely. I think this game would have been received better if it was a prequel and not destiny 2. Yes there's elements of the first game in this one but it is all watered down and simplified. I think this story should have been told before are gurdians in d1. this game is fun with friends alone not so much

                            • D2 has a different engine capable of way more. D1 couldnt have possibly had the large scale destinations that D2 has.
