Discuss all things Destiny 2.

Let's face it, there shouldn't even be a Destiny 2...

This game shouldn't exist. Based on how the original Destiny was presented. D2 is pretty much the opposite of what they presented as the "vision" for Destiny. Oddly, The Taken King/Rise of Iron were pretty much exactly what people thought the game would be... A game that grows and evolves over time. MORE content added, constantly UPDATED game systems. Characters that we could develop and enhance over time. Were you expecting 3 steps back when you bought D2? A complete disconnect from D1? I mean, of course we knew they had to update the architecture and the original game couldn't last forever. But did you expect there to be NO real connection? No Cosmodrome, Moon, Venus, Mars, Dreadnaught? What? Did they suddenly all vanish after the Cabal? Not even a HINT of the previous locations. How does that EXPAND the game? Asset swapping one location for another? Previous subclasses. Did we all just forget? Shouldn't there be a little bit more old mixed in with the new? Even just a little? We just leaving the plaugelands go? Let the Fallen keep messing with Siva? I mean, we did our part right? Might as well let them have the scraps, get powerful, so we have something interesting to do in the spring. Where is this world? One that moves forward with little consequence from catastrophic events. Oh, Cabal destroyed such and such, welp there goes all of our lore... And then there are the game systems themselves. How exactly could you have shipped D1 with the inventory system in place, let alone be 4 years in and still have no real direction? I, myself, could LITERALLY, not figuratively, design a better inventory system in less than a day, all based on what already exists. And I said DESIGN, not build, but truthfully, the foundation is all there, they just need to implement it fully. You know how I know this? Destiny Sets, and Destiny Item Manager. They use available game data to do pretty much EVERYTHING the actual game inventory system should do. Everything. From sorting to transfers. Updating our collections without having to store shit in the vault, which REALLY should be a loadout manager. A vault does not promote variety, or make it easy to find something new to use. But hey, what do I know. I'm just some guy. I mean, I'm also a software developer, and I do UX design for a living. Optimization of systems for data retrieval and management, but nope, really I'm just some guy who plays video games in his spare time. Not that you need to be any kind of an expert to know that the game should have shipped with the ability to sort by name as the default. Or that being able to remember your previous page, you know something people complained about in D1, might be a cool UPGRADE. I could go on and on. So many things that were part of D1, just gone. No replacement. No enhancement. Nope, just gone. 3 steps back. Destiny 2 is not what we should be playing. We should all still be playing Destiny: Darkness Falls, or some shit like that. Destiny 2 is a marketing trick. That giant 2 you see everyday is their idea of justifying charging you for a "new" game. Except that isn't how it should have been. No one wanted a "new" game. No, what we wanted, and what they presented Destiny as in the first place, was evolution. And the sad thing is, we would have paid for that as well. No marketing bullshit necessary. **Edit** Holy shit. I step away for half a day and you guys just keep on posting. Thank you all, both positive and negative for your responses. Seems like I hit a nerve. Again, all responses are appreciated.

  • tbh they really gave us lore lovers/masters a punch in the gut by removing grimoire cards. I really just wish they'd give us more lore. Especially since like...the adventures tend to be pointless to do but contain some really important lore like can maybe the adventures actually be worth doing? lmao

  • I've long said that in order for Destiny to truly thrive and be what it should/needs to be, Bungie would have to shift it over to a proper MMO with a persistent world. Lord knows they have the money to do that especially with Activision backing them, but they won't. We don't have enough details yet on Anthem, and I don't think it will be one either but it's taking more steps towards at least simulating the feel of one. The Division has also greatly improved during its time in the shadows, sad that seemingly very few people are even aware of all the improvement's Massive's made like all of year 2's DLC being FREE. Honestly, it'd be the best way for Bungie to monetize Destiny as well, by embracing the RPG side of things and going full-on subscription based MMO. They're obviously NOT going to do that because of how many people that would turn off but I'd pay for the sub in a heartbeat; I subscribed to Final Fantasy 11 for nearly 10 years, and I play 14 on and off again because they're good games (though I loved 11 far more, 14 has some issues that grate on me.) There are clear advantages to the current bubble-system that Bungie employs I won't deny, but I just gush at the idea of a legit MMO. Then we could actually have things like the REAL battle with Crota, where 1000+ guardians fought and died because we'd be on real-time dedicated servers that are constantly updating and keeping track of thousands of players for a given world. We could have really awesome large-scale events like defending the tower from invasions or epic space battles over Mars or The Dreadnaught etc. Don't tell me you wouldn't love to see hundreds of your fellow guardians in a given zone during a mass-scale public event all lighting up their supers at once, space magic flying EVERYWHERE!

    • D2 improvements could easily have been a DLC for D1, without the very long list of things lost from D1. Can only see it as a revenue generation idea...

      • It looks like Rockstar is smarter than Bungie, cause here we are @ three + years and gtao is still going strong with updated FREE content on their base game!! Bungie, take notes in how games are developed & supported!!

        • Just put the game in the bin or stick it on a shelf, the less people play this game the quicker shit will get put back to a playable, enjoyable gaming experience, instead of this bland, linear, boring piece of shit they call D2

I would have paid $40 for it as a dlc. I fully agree all they were selling was the "2" on the cover of the game. They could have even brought in the new weapon system "fix" for pvp only... get all our gear recovered, expand the vaults etc.

          • Agreed. D2 should have been just an expansion. This game has so much relevance to D1 I do not know how they can call it, a NEW game, D1 exotics, enemy's, armour, story, even the NPC's are referencing D1 content. Imo Bungie have lost their identity, it seems like they have lots of ideas from different areas of development, all put in the game with no thought about if they actually work together. They need to find their identity, this game is going to struggle to make it another 8 months, at the moment it's a miss match of things, their is no focus point, it's a aimless stroll not a journey. Everyone makes mistakes, it's admitting it and learning from them that shows courage and commitment. Imo integrate D2 areas and story into D1, separate PvE perks from PvP, and build from their. I love Destiny, and I want to see it were it should be, but that is going to need something drastically done, and it needs to happen now. If this game goes under then Bungie goes under and they can only blame themselves.

          • I assume the next DLC will just be what we already know from D1, the old Russia Map. Only when the next "paid" DLC (the first DLC you don't get with the Season Pass), we will have fully new stuff and a new Enemy. Currently I enjoy the few hours a week I play D2. But there are some Things I don't understand (you can't Progress unless you do the weekly stuff. After you finished your Milestones the grind increases too high). Also the Eververse Stuff makes me sick. I don't buy and wont buy stuff from there. But I feel presured like sitting at the beach and being asked if I want to buy a pair of sunglasses al 5min. I miss D1. D1 became more than a game. It was a Hobby. You could say I played games and Destiny. Destiny beeing the place where I played with friends and Family members. Sometimes just for fun and no real onjective. Sometimes with bigger Things in mind. I too was expecting a game to evolve over time and not reset. The excusse "we are learning" was fine with D1. But not with D2. I guess the consequences wherend to big the first time. I can understand people beeing extreamly salty. At the same time maybe it's just a waste of time. How can they track efficiantly what is wrong with the game with just a forum? No Ticket System. Just post in the Forum and have 0 feedback if they acknowledged it. Like this they only hear the loudest people yell but maybe not what the majority thinks. How many people Play this game? 1.5M how many upvotes does some threads receive? a few tousends. I will continue collecting the Ornaments for PvE, Faction and Iron Banner and maybe PvP. But the CoO DLC doesn't really attract me. Destiny is just a game now for me ;-)

            • It shouldn't be Destiny 2. It should have been: Destiny Destiny: The Dark Below Destiny: House of Wolves Destiny: The Taken King Destiny: Rise of Iron Destiny: Curse of Orisis Destiny: Rasputin Returns I wish they just kept adding on and on... but we know how well that would have gone over. D2 should have just been another expansion. Not a reboot.

              • At this point why are we still complaining? The shit has solidified and while small changes/improvements will happen it’s never going to be the same as D1..

              • The franchise is destroyed, that's for sure. Next up, "Destiny 3 is a return to D1 form." Then you get to be excited about that over polished turd again.

              • It's finally dawned on me (I'm a bit slow) but D1 was nerfed into D2. The whole idea was to change the game into a Crucible only game, that they thought, was a well balanced game of mano against mano. I believed the hype that, "Nope, Crucible was not going to be the prominent part of the game." Why else would you take away so many choices? Supers reduced to an occasional one-shot. No way to really speed regen up, other than a few seconds with Mods. I hate Mods! Mods that you need, but never get. Mods that you have a zillion of, but never use. Get one good Mod eventually, and it's a once-use-only. The whole stupid weapon drama, with Scout and Auto Rifles in two places. I'm finding that D2 has not grown on me. I have not got used to it. I see one thing better, and twenty things that have made it worse. The last so-called upgrade was nothing more than a fiddle, by adding some crap about master Weapons which is nothing more than another grind for a progress chart. The trouble is, I don't see any real improvement coming. They've developed a whole new structure that isn't working, and probably do not have the money or the inclination to change it back. I think Bungie has given up.
This game shouldn't exist.
Look at the Bungie-Activision Contract. I don't disagree that this game went backwards massively though.
