Edit: Added Randal
All those saying Ghaul is strong and not weak, the traveller fears Oryx and the Hive and others aligned to the darkness. Ghaul wasn't even that. And besides if we hadn't killed him the traveler would have just blown him up anyway.
So what, he got to the traveler and for a brief moment starved us of our light, but let's face it.....
Atheon - Time travelling manipulator of reality
Crota - Son of a Hive God, invincible but for his sword, slaughtered hundreds of guardians. Thousands of years old
Oryx - A God personally gifted power by the Deep. Can only be killed in his own realm. Can take the Will of enemies to fight for him
Aksis - Bio enginered overlord of death and destruction. Can self replicate and change others
Calus - Has a massive planet eating ship. True leader of the Cabal has thousands of other versions of himself.
Skolas - Meanest mofo the galaxy has ever seen. Even the Nine are afraid of him. (Actually hardest boss in Destiny pre nerf).
Ghaul - Pissed off space turtle with a grudge against humanity, has a an army.
Randal the Vandal - Eats gjallarhorns for breakfast and craps over all who dares kill his pet shank.
It's not Canon I know, but really our enemies need to be a bit more threatening.

1 ReplySorry, but all of them pale in comparison to one, one who has killed countless Guardians with WTF moments...... The Architects.

15 RepliesGhaul is a campaign boss, so wouldn't a better comparison be: D1: Sol Progeny in Black Garden TDB: Shard of Crotas Soul HoW: Skolas on Citadel TTK: Oryx, Regicide RoI: 3 SIVA Iron Lord zombies D2: Ghaul I'd say Ghaul is near the top of that list. Raid boss would compare Calus, but your point would probably remain the same

Randal the vandal, LoL. I forgot about that little fella, V V funny!

Edited by OurWildebeest: 11/6/2017 11:00:42 PMYou are comparing him mostly with raid bosses. He is not a raid boss. The D1 vanilla equivalent of Ghaul in terms of the final enemy you face is the three big minotaurs in the Black Garden. TDB equivalent is the shard of Crota's soul. HoW equivalent is Skolas on the floating Vex platforms. Not to be confused with Skolas in PoE, which was VERY tough. The TTK equivalent is Oryx when not in his throne realm. (He flies around occasionally attacking while you kill Taken in a small room surrounded by fog, that one.) ROI equivalent is those animated suits of armor. But yes. Ghaul is weak, and it's also true that if we hadn't fought him, the Traveler could have just destroyed him anyway. If you're feeling generous, you could say that the Traveler was testing us and we pass the test. But the reality is just that Bungie didn't think that part through, or didn't think we would. I completed the campaign three times, as probably most on this board have. The first time, I didn't know what to expect, so I was careful. The second and third times, I was reckless and foolhardy because I knew how weak he was, and he STILL didn't kill me. His supers look cool but are ineffective. Then again, the equivalent final campaign boss fights have never really been that difficult, so why start now? I could see this being pretty difficult with the right LL or modifiers.

Skolas wasnt feared by the nine, he was intentionally set loose by the nine to get the queen to start working with guardians and to basically be prepared for Oryx's arrival. his threat was real, trying to gain control of all of the scattered fallen houses, but at most that would put him just under gary in terms of threat; he would have a significant army, but lack Ghaul's instant-check move of taking the traveler and cutting off our light. also, unless im missing a key grimoire card, Atheon can only manipulate time-space WITHIN the vault at will, and otherwise interacts with the outside time-space fabric as normally as any other vex does, as abnormal as their natural interaction is.... Aksis' threat was imminent, but not immediate; once (or rather, IF) he gains complete control of SIVA, THEN he would be able to pose a very serious threat to the city. Oryx, and in turn all of the Hive, pose the greatest threat to the traveler because they are his antithesis. they posses the most direct means of counteracting and destroying it and its guardians permanently, unlike the cabal at first, who noted our resurrection ability, and their lack of a counter. Ghaul, on the other hand, is more than a posed threat, as he not only DID cut us off from the traveler for a time, but permanently killed guardians in mass as a result, as well as shaking our foundation. remember when Oryx first arrived and everybody was surprised there werent taken running around the city? remember how Ghaul captured the city and had his red legion occupying it? basically, Ghaul is like Oryx, if Oryx was focused on taking the traveler, and NOT instead of getting revenge for Crota, and being distracted by the awoken and cabal.

Considering D2 is a hot pile, why is this shocking?
-
1 ReplyAlthough I agree with you on the ghaul part. I died when you said nine are afraid of skolas. Lol. Skolas was released by the nice because skolas knew about oryx coming to our system. Read the lore kid. Of all the baddies we faced skolas was the weakest. We ruined his plan and we went into the prison to make him our bitch again

4 RepliesYou know Atheon, Crota, and Oryx, and Aksis, Randal and Skolas, Ghaul and Calus. But do you recall? The most infamous villain of all? Bum, bum, bum.
SYLOK, THE DEFILED! Thirsts for your light...
Perhaps you're focusing on the wrong thing that was wrong with the storytelling

Edited by STARWoLF00: 11/5/2017 11:29:17 PMValid Te arc or rockets mcdickface is the baddest mf boss to ever be coded in destiny. That mofo would launch a thousand rockets at you for poking an eyelash out from cover. Crota was a bitch who got thrown from the throne dimension for opening a tare in space and getting that ass waxed by the vex The vex are quite literally the adversary we should fear the most. Oryx was okay I guess. Although his and the hives brutality had him destroy his entire fleet to get rid of the awoken flies that were buzzing around. Gaul commanded, or overthrew the cabal emperor and commanded a massive fleet l. I don’t believe he brought even a fraction of his military power to earth. Unlike the others he managed to take the light from all guardians and wreck us. His downfall was his overconfidence. Skolas was a little bitch with an automatic rocket launching machine gun. If it wasn’t for his swarm of cannon fodder we’d have swept the floor with his ass no problem. Taniks was more a badass than skolas captured ass fighting beyond thunderdome style. Aksis was trapped in a -blam!-ing room like the queen of the zenomorphs from alien. Utterly useless.

1 ReplyDon’t forget Xylar
-
well ghaul was a galaxy conquerer, red legion had never been defeated, he had just gotten the light for the first time so he was noob pleb and he was easy because the community are plebs as well and would complaim the final story boss is too op
-
2 RepliesDid anyone NOT beat him on their very first try?
-
Randal is obviously harder than most bosses, bungo could have made him a Captain to give some light to him...
-
1 ReplyRockets McDickface was much tougher. The only guy to laugh in the face of 3 Gjallahorns.
-
He was about to be the strongest, but then just as he turned into a god... boof! Traveler took him out in one hit. Well, that was a bit of a cop-out.
-
Edited by Sire Belmont: 11/5/2017 4:01:32 PMCan we please add Taniks to the list? I feel as* if he comes out as a sort of "semi-OP boss".
Excluding any modifiers...
Even Taniks post-The Dawning could've overcome Ghaul. Taniks is (well, was) a beast.
-
1 ReplyThe other enemies might have been more powerful in a literal sense. But only Ghaul was able to get this close and cause this much damage (at least that we personally as players have exprienced.) He woke the traveler as well. Oryx and crota while are "gods" they are bound to a very specific rule known as sword logic. It's a big weakness and strength to them. Atheon had the power of time. But it was also it's undoing. Not to mention was stuck in the vault. It likely wouldn't have anywhere near the power it did outside the vault. Aksis and skolas are just fallen who got ahold of some powerful tech/artifacts. So I would put them at the same level as ghaul/calus. Funny thing is all 4 of them are probably the most "powerful" we've fought as they are as close to "human behavior" as we are. Making them ambitious and unpredictable. Which is a dangerous combination.
-
1 ReplyIsn't Ghaul being a weaker enemy kind of the whole point of his character? Ghaul's biggest personality flaw is his hubris. They start out the first mission telling you the Red Legion has "never lost". Ghaul talks big, acts powerful, thinks he's destined to rule, and won't even budge on his plan when he thinks the Traveler hasn't yet "chosen" him, because he thinks he's worthy of that kind of power. Guess what: He's not. That's his whole downfall; overbearing pride and excessive confidence. He doesn't think it's possible for him to lose, he just thinks it's his birthright and his, well, 'destiny'. That's why the Traveler never chooses him. Ghaul is basically Caesar of the Space Romans. They extend their empire too far while convincing themselves that they're invincible and undefeatable, and that ends up being their downfall.
-
4 RepliesWhy would you assume Ghaul is the strongest foe yet when we literally lost all of our powerful gear from the tower siege? Of course Ghaul ain't sh*t. They just have strength in numbers and guns, they're not interdimensional gods or time traveling robots. Hell, even Calus ran away from the dark void at the edge of the galaxy.
-
Because he is the most human. Enemies in destiny should not have an hour of monologues in the campaign. They took our voice and gave it to the turtle.
-
Physically speaking, Ghaul is not really strong when compared to the other enemies. Really and truly, only the Hive and Fallen have really threatened our existence. If the Vex could seriously damage us, then they would have done so already. And the Vex have yet to launch their first offensive against us - The Vault of Glass was a campaign that began with Osiris and Kabr. The found it, and sought to destroy it. We only came in and finished the job. But what have the Vex instigated? Nothing. Their first offensive will be in Curse of Osiris. The Cabal, for all their military might and firepower, are just like people. So of course, he isn't going to be very strong individually. His danger is the threat he posed on the life of the City and the Traveller. Not because he was strong, but because he was the one who got to us. None of the others managed to get to us like he did. In that way, he has proven himself, but only that.
-
7 RepliesEdited by Benzene21: 11/4/2017 8:22:44 PMSkolas was the weakest. At least ghaul had the light. Skolas was just a bigger version of a captain. Oh, and he got beaten in one minute the first week. So he is not the hardest boss either.

Agree Guall was all hat and no cattle.
