(Edit) Bungie please fix this shader system. This was an unecessary change that upset a large part of the community.

I truly hope that the outcry and support against the new shader system reaches you, you realize how bad this decision was, and you are able to patch it out. Links for complaints: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/6yggi6/bungie_please_revert_shaders_back_to_unlimited/?ref=share&ref_source=link https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/6yi1yg/do_not_spend_a_single_cent_on_micro_transactions/?ref=share&ref_source=link https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/6yfqpb/whoa_hold_on_shaders_are_single_use_now/?ref=share&ref_source=link As of posting this, the oldest of these articles is 8 hours old, and all have reached a combined 13,227 upvotes. THIS IS A POST UPDATE: (Original post name, Dear Bungie, did you mean to disrespect us with this cash grab of a shader system, because that's what it feels like.) After the extreme response this post has received, both positive and negative I felt the need to make a couple edits to further explain the communities frustration and to help feed the trolls trying to get a rise out of everyone. 1. I LOVE THIS GAME, DESTINY 1, OL' BUNGO, AND EVERYTHING THE HAVE EVER DONE. This is not an attempt to bash them and I understand the original title was a little whiny and it made me look really entitled. 2. Everyone who has an issue with the shader system comes from D1 where we had an excellent system where you could collect and "grind" for special shaders, some of which you had to work VERY hard for. This was a perfect system. It allowed guardians to express themselves and show off a visible trophy to everyone else. By making shaders a single use they take away the appeal of trying to earn shaders in the first place. Why in the world would anyone grind for a couple hours to get a shader that you can use on a piece of armor that will be obsolete after a few more levels. If I work hard for a cosmetic item it should be able to be used again, bottom line. 3. MICROTRANSACTIONS ARE NEVER GOING AWAY AND I GET THAT, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO PRETEND TO BE HAPPY ABOUT IT. First things first, if your argument is "Well then just don't buy it" you can kiss my lilly white @$$. Seriously if you aren't a troll and this is your honest to god argument you are so far gone. The point, to me and many others, is that we bought a game, plan to buy every expansion they offer, and have no intention of leaving this game to go spend time on another for a long time. But for companies like Activision to try and monetize an incredibly loyal fan base is disgusting and greedy. I will not be buying anything because that is the best way to speak to a company that only speaks in profits, but the point is we shouldn't have to have a micro protest in a game where these types of items exist. If they want to have exclusive shaders that are only purchasable they can knock themselves out with that but this isn't what this and and you ALL know it. Reddit update: All the posts on the front of the destiny Reddit total 70,984 upvotes as of this post. This is clearly a problem and if you don't see some issue with it you are clearly in the minority. Thanks to everyone for reading, I'm sorry if I triggered you, get back to orbit and lets have a good time! • Yeah they way they've done it in Destiny 2 is really dumb. The way they handled it in Destiny 1 was perfectly fine, even though they were cosmetic it still felt like a reward. But they made the mistake of taking something good away from the sequel. It really should go back to how it was in Destiny 1. Or at the very least I would be fine with the random drops if the shaders weren't single use. This is a game that encourages players to constantly change their gear so single use shaders are pretty much wasted. It saddens me that they've handled it this way, but hopefully this backlash they're facing will encourage them to change it back to how it was.

  • Gotta say, it feels like cash grab. As with D1 I refuse do drop a single dime into it. I refuse to support that kind of broken money grubbing marketing design. Not that it'll go away. I just won't help it grow.

  • While I don't like this new system I can see why they did it. Most people only used like 7 of the 100+ shaders in D1

    • Shaders are less of a problem than paying real cash for "Bright engrams" that could give better weapons than you would normally get. That has the potential to be a serious problem. What color somebody's weapon is is nothing compared that.

The reason why shaders are single use has nothing to do with a money grab. People totally got the wrong idea here. The shaders and weapon mods are single-use because guns and armor roll with the same perks every time. So to somehow give players something to farm in exchange, they decided to go for that shader/mod system, otherwise there would be nothing left to go for. You can get ALL the stuff from the bright/shiny engramms after you reach lvl 20. And maxing out that bar for an engramm goes fairly fast, to my surprise. So that CERTAINLY is NOT a money grab, otherwise the leveling system for these engramms would be slow AF. So all the reddit topics are completely missing the point. Already got tons of shaders, including legendary ones, and didn't pay a damn cent on Tess' inventory. Also open chests during patrol for regular shaders. Don't see any problem here. In the end you just farm for cosmetics in D2 cauz purple guns and armor etc drop like crazy, especially when you collect tokens for reputation on each planet's vendor. So sooner or later you get all the guns and stuff, especially when there is literally no reason to scrap them (because of the set perks). The only stuff what's left then are the shaders and mods.

        • Figured i was going nuts here, not understanding the mechanics or something. I will finish the base game sure, but if you know anything about Destiny players is that we like to collect stuff, and this aint it. Haven't gotten into mods yet, but cut that out too. I'd ask for a prorated refund for the money i spent on the game, but i'm confident this will be fixed since these guys are not complete dumdumbs. It's all Activision, like " -blam!- you gime mony !!". Hey we fixed your car up and installed a skittles dispenser "Awesome". Oh yea, we also put spikes all over the seat so you can be as comfortable as possible when driving.

          •
Luke has put out a response that gives some more information on Shaders. Shaders are earned through gameplay: leveling, chests, engrams, vendors. We expect you’ll be flush w/ Shaders as you continue to play. When you reach level 20, Shaders will drop more often: vendor rewards, destination play and endgame activities. Shaders are now an ongoing reward for playing. Customization will inspire gameplay. Each planet has unique armor and Shader rewards. With D2, we want statements like "I want to run the Raid, Trials, or go back to Titan to get more of its Shader" to be possible.
Yeah, that sure sounds like fun.

            • Do you get to keep the old paint on your car if you repaint it? Nah. Its a game and thats all. Don't be a baby because you have to remove a paint, thus destroying it, before applying a new paint. Children these days...

              • They could make a kiosk/vending machine in the social spaces that dispenses any shader you have collected at the cost of some glimmer. Maybe like 2000 glimmer? Using real world currency to buy back something you have already found in game is big slap to the face.

                • Surprised there are people crying about shaders and not game changing mods available for money. Bungie doesn't care about you or your gaming experience beyond how much you can pay them.

                    • The old shader system should be put back for armor. The current system can stay for weapons.

                      • Noting Bungie's response... it is a terrible system. Having shaders on individual pieces of armor is a great idea. But limited use? Absurd. I havent used any and my guardian looks so bland because im scared to use rhem and know I'll upgrade gear. It defeats the purpose of having shaders in the first place.

                          • I won't lie, i've found the new shader system a little bit disheartening but it's made me want to hold onto shaders i like more and save them until i have the gear i want to live in. True it's a huge change from having unlimited usage and putting it on anything and everything but i can learn to live with the new system provided i actually find a shader i like :S

                            • Love this concept of having shaders for all different items, guns gears etc. Collected easily 20 diff shaders and around 3-6 of each one. People scream for new things in a sequel and as soon as they do they cry cuz its not what they like!! Just embrace the change and don't be so f'kin self entitled!!!
