I truly hope that the outcry and support against the new shader system reaches you, you realize how bad this decision was, and you are able to patch it out.

THIS IS A POST UPDATE: (Original post name, Dear Bungie, did you mean to disrespect us with this cash grab of a shader system, because that's what it feels like.)
After the extreme response this post has received, both positive and negative I felt the need to make a couple edits to further explain the communities frustration and to help feed the trolls trying to get a rise out of everyone.
1. I LOVE THIS GAME, DESTINY 1, OL' BUNGO, AND EVERYTHING THE HAVE EVER DONE. This is not an attempt to bash them and I understand the original title was a little whiny and it made me look really entitled.
2. Everyone who has an issue with the shader system comes from D1 where we had an excellent system where you could collect and "grind" for special shaders, some of which you had to work VERY hard for. This was a perfect system. It allowed guardians to express themselves and show off a visible trophy to everyone else. By making shaders a single use they take away the appeal of trying to earn shaders in the first place. Why in the world would anyone grind for a couple hours to get a shader that you can use on a piece of armor that will be obsolete after a few more levels. If I work hard for a cosmetic item it should be able to be used again, bottom line.
3. MICROTRANSACTIONS ARE NEVER GOING AWAY AND I GET THAT, BUT I'M NOT GOING TO PRETEND TO BE HAPPY ABOUT IT.
First things first, if your argument is "Well then just don't buy it" you can kiss my lilly white @$$. Seriously if you aren't a troll and this is your honest to god argument you are so far gone. The point, to me and many others, is that we bought a game, plan to buy every expansion they offer, and have no intention of leaving this game to go spend time on another for a long time. But for companies like Activision to try and monetize an incredibly loyal fan base is disgusting and greedy.
I will not be buying anything because that is the best way to speak to a company that only speaks in profits, but the point is we shouldn't have to have a micro protest in a game where these types of items exist. If they want to have exclusive shaders that are only purchasable they can knock themselves out with that but this isn't what this and and you ALL know it.
Reddit update:
All the posts on the front of the destiny Reddit total 70,984 upvotes as of this post. This is clearly a problem and if you don't see some issue with it you are clearly in the minority.
Thanks to everyone for reading, I'm sorry if I triggered you, get back to orbit and lets have a good time!

5 RepliesWhat happened to buying a game? Like the whole thing? When did things become so F'ed that companies think we have to be given bits and pieces like sick children then told to like it? Gaming is just flawed these days and the ones who think this is fine are either below 18 years old and haven't gotten a full game since the ps2 or Xbox 360... or they have loads of $$$ to burn. I miss enjoying what I've purchased, not wondering how many ways a company will ask for more money that I kill myself to make. Is this now our Destiny?

2 RepliesEdited by Kaitsja: 9/14/2017 12:18:27 PMI don't think all of you who are defending the current system understand why it needs to change. Do you have any idea how ridiculous the idea of farming for shaders sounds? It's a purely cosmetic item. Why would anyone invest so much time into obtaining something purely cosmetic? You think it's great as it is because you have a lot of shaders. Well, I have a lot too but guess what? The majority of these are Uncommon and Rare shaders. Even the Eververse exclusive shaders are consumable. Do you know what that means? If you buy Silver and spend it on a bright engram, you are essentially getting nothing in return for your money. That doesn't sound like a very good system. Let me reiterate for the people who just don't get it. Eververse Shaders are not "found" in chests. They are exclusive to Eververse and can only be obtained through Bright Engrams or purchased via Silver. Despite this, they are still consumable.

1 ReplyThis shader system is perfectly fine. I've yet to drop a dollar into Silver and I have too many shaders I have to keep some in my vault due to not having enough inventory space. I have 10+ of the eververse ones as well, RNG is extremely giving in this game compared to D1, nobody I know has had any issues with just grinding a little bit more to get what you want, it's almost like grinding for the stuff you want is the point of the game.. oh wait.

190 RepliesEdited by Cozmo: 9/7/2017 6:54:34 PMWe appreciate the feedback. We are monitoring all of the comments and suggestions regarding the new Shader system. Luke has put out a response that gives some more information on Shaders.
Shaders are earned through gameplay: leveling, chests, engrams, vendors. We expect you’ll be flush w/ Shaders as you continue to play. When you reach level 20, Shaders will drop more often: vendor rewards, destination play and endgame activities. Shaders are now an ongoing reward for playing. Customization will inspire gameplay. Each planet has unique armor and Shader rewards. With D2, we want statements like "I want to run the Raid, Trials, or go back to Titan to get more of its Shader" to be possible.
6 RepliesWhy are people so upset about something they don't want to buy? I won't buy them either, but I am not going to run to a forum to whine about it. Speak with your wallet.

Edited by mma hoodie: 9/11/2017 9:03:35 AMLegendary shaders should be gained from heroic public events, nightfalls, bright engrams, trails, iron banner, and raids , legendary shaders should be non consumable but you only get one for each completion of said activity. So for example if you want to have a full set of the raid shader you'll have to complete the raid 5 times, you'll be able to take these shaders off and use them on what ever you want without them being consumed I think this would balance out the shader concern while keeping the current shader system relevant.

2 RepliesEdited by Scratch: 9/10/2017 6:44:42 PMQ: Why does Tess seem to give you 3 shaders at a time if you need 5? A: CA-CHING! So you earn 3 shaders you like and 'throw money at the screen' until you get the other 2.(RNG)

I like the new system but legendary shaders and above
if that ever happens. Raid shaders i guess
need to drop 5 at a time. I want a full set with + 1 for my weapon or ship.

17 RepliesThis needs to change. Shaders need to be unlimited use. I used to change my shader frequently in D1 just to style my guardian slightly different from time to time and look for a new favorite look.

1 ReplyEdited by Gridzzz: 9/11/2017 8:06:40 AMI was upset at first but the more i play the shaders are stacking up like crazy and i love how they look on guns . There really is no shortage they drop like crazy . I do want some shaders from special endgame to be permanent.
-
Here's an idea. How about we get too types of shader? Permanent shaders, and temporary shaders. The permanent ones are rewards for participating in certain events. Season events, maybe raids, things like that... Things that are your trophy for saying "I was there. I participated." These need to be permanent because duh once you use them you lose them otherwise and half the point in participating in special events is having that swag to fall back on and remember how you got it. If it's just dust and gone there's no real reason to participate.

3 RepliesEdited by chawskycrawliey: 9/10/2017 12:06:08 PMWe as a community asked for this in a way. I may be part of the minority but I also witnessed when everyone said they wanted to be able to customize each weapon, and peice of armor. Bungie delivered on that.

Micro transactions drive me crazy and the worst part is I get why they exist, allowing the company to have income between expansions. If the system was more like how dyes work in Guild Wars 2 (you buy the super rare shaders but it's permanently unlocked to use) it would make more sense. Still not happy about micro transactions in general, but it makes more sense to me to have it as a permanent unlock.

1 ReplyIm on the opposite spectrum. Single use shaders deter players from redoing activities end game if they don't reward them enough. Meanwhile when you recieve shaders you don't get one, you get multiple uses for that shader before running out. If people are already complaining about shaders that means they were using them poorly by burning them on something they didn't enjoy enough to keep.
-
3 RepliesI currently have 225 shaders, and we're only a few days in. This is hardly an issue.

14 RepliesEdited by whateverman7: 9/12/2017 10:24:05 PMShader system is fine, y'all are just nitpicking now. They drop quite frequently, so you dont have to buy any.

I think this system for shadders is fine. A gimmick but they drop like candy. However this system for MODs I do not like. I think we should be able to apply and remove mods.

2 RepliesThe consumable change in shaders are a nice twist to actually earning outstanding shaders for yourself. Everyone in Destiny 1 wore pretty much the same boring shaders and having unlimited access makes all of them dull. No guardian ever really stood out. People wanted diversity and more character in the game. Stop complaining about what use to be a free handout and start enjoying the fact that you'll actually earn it and NOT look like everyone else. Unlimited anything in a game usually dulls the game out fast. The micro is another aspect, but bottom line? It is only cosmetic. The game is much more fun when it's consumable, it gives me something to do for fun. Free "paint jobs" forever is not a thing that should have been. Destiny 2 shaders are perfect the way they are. Besides, it's not like you won't have the majority after a month of play. Why did Mass Effect 1 go from unlimited ammo to ME2 with consumable ammo? It's more dynamic. When Fable 1 went from consumable magic and limited lives to Fable 2 with unlimited magic and unlimited lives? The franchise went downhill. It's time to appreciate dynamic play. Destiny 2 is great so far.

I heard about this and I thought it was a joke. I didn't believe it. It's crazy to me.

Edited by slmon01942: 9/9/2017 10:30:55 AMI am not a great fan of the new system, but it does give people more options to colour customise equipment, which is what people kept banging on about all through D1. I think the new system would be ok if it was accompanied by specific, single use shaders, shaders with names like in D1, shaders for the Raid, Nightfall, certain challenges etc, shaders that people could recognise and acsociate with. I am indifferent on the subject of micro transactions as long as they are not impacting on the game and the game mechanics.
