Sunsingers: What if?

Below is my list of suggestions: 1) What if they just removed Firebolt Grenades and replaced it with a Solar version of Spike Grenade? Firebolts have and always will be trash in PVE so that isn't a concern. They still cannot have 2 Grenades and touch of flame if this change were implemented. So, they'd have either 1 really strong Solar Spike Grenade that places the DOT or two that won't. Wouldn't be game breaking. 2) Song of Flame should be a passive buff while radiance is active, always. Also, give it a visual. Perhaps a circle of fire which follows the Sunsinger? 3) As a result of Song of Flame being removed and made passive. Offer a new perk which decreases melee cool down while radiance is active. 4) Solar Wind should be an Frontal Cone AOE knock back with a slight range boost. 5) Brimstone should also give the Sunsinger a moderate temporary boost to armor on kills with the explosion. 6) Radiant Skin should be given a slight buff to shield 7) Return Flame Shield back to former glory. Warlocks excel at melee. Deal with it. 8) Sunburst should be changed so that there's a % chance to generate an orb from any solar ability kill.

  • I like a lot of these ideas, but I'd like to edit a bit. Pre-nerf, firebolts were a sunsinger's bread and butter with or without burn. Taking those away and replacing them with a spike grenade clone isn't an amazing idea. Spikes are pretty underpowered and firebolts have great potential. I'd focus on buffing firebolts instead of replacing them. Your ideas for the melees are pretty solid, but poss not fully unnerf flame shield. Maybe just increase the recharge time a bit more. It's still a powerful option. I've been a long-time supporter of Song of Flame buffs so I like the idea of making it passive. Maybe they could keep the current slot as an increase to effectiveness of the buff; everyone would always get the buff form base radiance, but by selecting the SoF perk, you increase the potency. This way sunsingers have to choose between being tanky and therefore difficult to unbuff their team, or they're easier to kill but with a higher team-wide damage potential. Also adding a visual is an absolute must. It's impossible to use SoF effectively with randoms and that would make it so much better. We need to keep this dialogue about sunsingers open. I was ok with the changes to viking funeral but since then they've been a lot weaker. I hope bungie is listening to topics like this. Good work, my dude.

    • 1. Increase the damage debuff on Viking Funeral to 10% for 7 seconds without increasing the DoT duration. Still stacks 3x. 2. Increase the knockback on Solar Wind to something like half of a taken phalanx shield blast. 3. Restore the distance on Firebolt grenades and undo half of the arming time nerf. 4. Have Angel of Light grant a mid-air evade a la Twilight Garrison in addition to the ADS hover (or create an exotic chest which does it) 5. Have all ticks on Solar Grenade Ignite the enemy if Touch of Flame is selected (the DoT will not stack, but will continuously re-apply until the target is clear of the grenade)

    • Or you could make fire bolt do the damage it used to and make Viking funeral not activate in crucible like it did in year one

        • 1. NO. The firebolt is an essential part of mid-range Sunsinger play in both PVP and PVE. The only people who call it "trash" simply dont' understand how to use it properly. The only reason the firebolt is even an issue is because of the VF/ToF buld. Which has already been nerfed into the ground because of whining from Trials players. 2. NO. The role of the Sunsinger in PVE is to give a fireteam the ability to defend a particular spot on the map when a Defender Titan is not present. The ability to deliver DoT is essential to filling that role. 5. That's makes it redundant with Flame Shield. 6. No. That would make it OP. 7. Agreed.

          • They just need to revert the changes. Being "annoying" is the most absurd reason I've heard for a nerf. Shot gunning defenders with no back up plans are annoying! Where's the nerf bunghole???

Sure, as long as we can have the ACTUAL Viking Funeral back. 90% of the reason people complained about Viking Funeral is because people paired it with Firebolts, resulting in a low-risk/high-reward situation. Was it unbalanced? Eh, probably, but it was OUR THING. WE FREAKIN' BURN STUFF. Now? We can add a PITIFUL debuff, IF we're REALLY quick. Seriously, the majority of the whining about Sunsingers pre-June Crippling revolved around Firebolts and how they were too effective for how easy they were to use. Our subclass is BUILT around neutral game, and the burn mechanic. That was Sunsinger's whole THEME: damage over time. Now what are we? A sad hodgepodge of mashed together skills & perks that don't really jive super well... Can you still do well? Of course! I play almost EXCLUSIVELY as Sunsinger, and my recent Crucible history shows we're not totally helpless. SactownNoob can also verify that with imagination, we're more deadly than you'd expect. However, this is no excuse to leave the subclass in what most agree is a BAD place. TL;DR Restore OLD Viking Funeral, REMOVE Firebolts, any whiners can use new artifact for DoT.

                      They'll get buffed when nobody is using them. #2 is a good idea but still not enough. They need another tool if to become a real support class.

                    • Firebolts were over nerfed IMO Only reason people complained about them was because of Viking Funeral.. They completely change how VF works so the extra slash to fitebolts was unnecessary.

                    • A) Firebolts a great, why change them. B) Solar Spike Grenade = Tripmines. Can you imagine how OP a Sunsinger would be spamming those with Touch of Flame and Viking Funeral. C) Brimstone increase Melee cooldown already, why give it something else that makes Flame Shield useless. D) Solar Wind is fine how it is. It doesn't need to be another increase to Warlock Melee range. E) Song of Flame doesn't need anything other than a visual que. F) Radiant Skin is fine. Buffing would make it OP. G) Flameshield doesn't need to be an instant clutch to anything meleeing you. It's almost unnoticeable other than not being able to exploit it. H) Brimstone Hemings orbs on any ability kills would make the Super able to generate enough for everyone to get an instant super.

                      • I like the solar wind idea, useful to push people away with some range and shot them with a shotgun when they are trying to recover or throw a solar grenade to where they land and i run back. It would be abit op since solar wind helps the cooldown of the melee.

                          Keep firebolt, just have it so they can't be used with Viking funeral, all warlocks need a kind of bolt! I like them and can use them affectively, im not amazing, but they are not bad, 1 burst to the head with hopscotch and a firebolt with touch of flame will kill a max armor Titan while a body burst with firebolt will burn out a max armor hunter, a shot with one to the head and 2 to the body will kill any non ram warlock with burn, it's not that it's good, it's actually more affective to just shoot them, it's just so satisfying to dance while they just burn to death, try it u will love it and never go back
