According to the trends you're not alone but its not totally accurate.
Using the Steam charts D2 is slowly losing players.
Prior to LF 316k peak
LF release 255k peak
This season 186k peak
These numbers are not bad but the trends are there.
D2 still pulls 55k to 47k players a day per the Steam charts. Too bad we don't have the same metrics for console.

I have a feeling the launch of Lightfall was a fluke that was riding on the relative success of Witch Queen. Even though Final Shape is the last of this saga (whatever that means), I honestly don't think as many people are going to be there at the launch of Final Shape due to how terrible Lightfall was. Whatever success that Lightfall achieved, per the steam charts, is completely gone. The average daily players is about 2/5 of what it was at launch, and July thus far is already lower than last July, and within 20K of it's lowest average ever. Regardless of the fact that some people are happy that Bungie is removing light levels, I think we're already seeing how it's going to play out this season since they didn't raise the cap. Heck, not only did they not raise the cap, but they took away the majority of pinnacles from the playlist. I was actually planning on playing more this season just to get to the cap. But, they removed the ability to casually do this from the playlists unless you're willing to step into that travesty called Nightfall. And, normally I would be willing to do that, but I won't since they removed Adept and capped our light levels to artificially increase the difficulty. Despite the fact that some people like this, I think it's a reality that most people don't because most people are casuals. They should have never pulled the rug out from under the easier content. They could have made the higher levels harder for those that want that. They instead made another decision that I don't understand by raising the difficulty of the lowest levels of content. I expect the player population to keep going down from here. I always say, though, I'm more than happy to be proven wrong. I'd love for the game to get fun again, and I'd love for there to be a genuine reason for me to log on. Just speaking personally, they have systematically removed every single thing that I enjoyed from the game.

You're not wrong. Many of the things you stated apply to me. Not to drag it out but as it stands now I've already determined that I won't purchase FS. Maybe at 50% off, I need to see value. Pinnacles my only problem with the new set up is: Why no exotic guns from those engrams it would be great infusion fodder.
-
Oh, I'm definitely not buying FS at launch, I've already decided that. There's no video trailer or dev talk that will change my mind for the simple fact that I don't trust them to do anything to make my play time fun. I really need to see other people play it, their reactions, and several different sources, well after launch, probably the 2nd season at earliest, before I would trust the game to be good. When they said the game would be harder, I was willing to take a look. I had no idea the frustration I would feel playing this game. I legitimately couldn't conceive of how bad it really was. The truth is, I'm generally actually kind of easy to please. I don't care what people are doing at end game, or what pvp looks like, or anything like that. I just want to play a fun, easy going, looter shooter that has at least a minimal sense of progression. That is not at all what I was faced with. I suspect many of us are. Most people aren't raiding. We're just logging on to have fun and feel like we're making a little progress. What they've effectively done, is take away everything that people like me enjoy, and therefore alienating a huge portion of their player base - the portion that was probabl the easiest to please. It's inconceivable to me how anybody with any kind of business sense would think this was a good move.

I just noticed only 30k online right now, lowest it's ever been, ever.
-
Not trying to argue. I read your other replies. The 30k concurrent number did you get it from Steam? Based on your other info given it seems Steam is a good snap shot if you multiply by 3. From what info I've been getting it seems like D2 is going down hill (not extinction). I appreciate your input and advice.

Yeah best guideline, it's quite accurate though not exact, is between 8am to 8pm UK, pc number is around 50% population Vs console as a whole, during 8pm to 8am (so north America peak play hours) multiply the pc number by 3 or 3.5. Steam numbers are concurrent, so online right now. If you want actual proper total numbers daily, get discord, setup Charlemagne bot, and type /analytics population
-
I tried to setup Charlemagne but it has a different donald420 linked (the numbers at the end are different). I do have Discord set up properly. I know it's only 1 account but since it's mine it has created skepticism. Thx again for pointing me in the right direction.
-
That's not a day that's concurrent. PC daily numbers are usually around 250-300k, total game numbers are around 700-800k. PC is the biggest platform outside of north America, psn is 80% of the console share, Xbox is kinda dead outside north America.
-
There is like 750K players online in the last 24hours across all platforms.
Too bad we don't have the same metrics for console.
There is a bot called Charlamagne that counts players across all platforms.
-
One thing. So if Steam is clocking 55k then about 690k for consoles. I'm not the best techy but if Charlemagne has to use Discord info how is that accurate? Example, I don't use Discord. Not trying to sharpshoot just interested in data collection.
-
Charlemagne pulls numbers from bungies api, it's very accurate. Discord is just a way to access the numbers, it's just a tool. Overall split is around 35% psn 34% Xbox 31% PC Broken into 2 regions though In North America 36% Xbox 32p PSN 31% PC Outside North America PC 50% PSN 38% XBOX 13%

Edited by waterpolo1: 7/13/2023 1:15:37 AMThere is also epic games and windows for PC. Steam does have the most players.
I'm not the best techy but if Charlemagne has to use Discord info how is that accurate?
I assume it uses the same Bungie API that other websites use to track play times, total clears, how many people have unlocked ____, or the most used weapons in game.
-
Windows & epic are like 0.02% total
-
I know. They still exist as a variable to use when determining the accuracy of the AI when double checking its math.
-
Hmm... Interesting thanks for follow up.

Didn't know about Charlemagne. Thank you for the info. I'm very interested in those trends. Thx again.
