Hey, guys
I've been playing Trials quite a bit these past few weeks, managing to get a flawless almost every week. I was messing around with some friends in Trials today.
Here's the situation:
3v2 in favor of our side
I ran in to a melee battle with a warlock on top of his friend's revive, expecting nothing more than a trade so as to prevent him from getting the revive, and so my team mates could clean up the last guy and clinch the round.
The battle was on even terrain, and at point-blank range (no "warlock melee range is OP" bull crap).
We both meleed each other twice, and I took the appropriate amount of damage from both of his melees. For me, however, the game managed to at least lock on to his guardian, but did 0 damage to him each time, meaning that he was able to win the battle, revive his teammate, and leave unscathed WITH and overshield as a result of both of my "missed" melees. At this point, this rules out (at least in my mind) the "skill issue" mentality that I'm sure I'll get in response to this article.
*I have the video recorded, but I don't feel like posting it because I don't want to go through the hassle of posting it. But if someone is really adamant about hog-riding Bungie, I will to prove a point*
My question is: if there are borderline game-breaking issues in the game such as this, why are we nerfing (relatively) unimportant things like Eager Edge? shouldn't we prioritize fixing things that make the game less fun than getting rid of things that make the game MORE fun?
Serious question for Bungie. There are plenty of things that people complain about, and they still manage to find their own things they would rather get rid of that is hardly comparable to the problems that have been in the game since launch, or problems brought about by newly-added weapons.

If he was on top of his friends body then the ghost took the melee damage as they count as physical objects instead of markers primarily. That's why it reverts to a spot you can stand and doesn't stay in the air. Domb destiny physics

This does happen, I’m always saying to myself, “how in hell is he not dead!” When I clearly shotgunned and then mele but then I lose the trade 🤷🏼♂️

Bro same issue where melee won't register on first attempt. It makes the sound but no damage. It gets you killed unless they are super slow

2 RepliesBungie simply does not care about melee registration, which has been an issue in the game since launch. They refuse to even acknowledge it or address the occasional post that's appeared over the years. It's probably just too hard or too embarrassing for them to care about as a technological issue, and people will still play the game and spend money anyway. It's a pretty hopeless cause at this point.

Ghost Melees have been a Bungie specialty since the old halos. They’ve had some of the worst melee hit registration in gaming history.
-
This season I've noticed a lot of my melees hit but they do lowered damage, or that I need to hit someone 3 times to get a kill. Remember when not so long ago Bungie said that warlock melee whiff, was slower that other classes and only just then they fixed it after years of warlock frustration.

It’s different teams. No, the sandbox team is not being reorganized to work on networking; they are working on sandbox. Now, another team is working on networking and these issues, and behind the scenes things happen all the time although unannounced. Changes like this will be small, but thats how tech works. The more edge cases you resolve, and the smaller the packets, the better things will work.

I noticed that many times my melee is not registering.

Edited by Daemon White: 10/30/2022 2:55:27 AMPeer to Peer is what's wrong with melee. Any desync can cause one person to whiff while the other connects. The only way to fix it is to have some form of dedicated server in Crucible, which is not likely to happen anytime soon. The alternative is even stricter connection requirements, and somehow making sure that a player doesn't have lag switches to give themselves the advantage. Or possibly removing melee lunge?

Registration has been a problem for some time now. Not to mention the actual in game combat move set is atrocious. I want to be able to super man punch someone instead of having to run up close enough to get in a melee hit. Or even tackle someone down and start landing punches. Just imagine if this game had more realistic mechanics😄😁?!

I had a similar bug with glaive where swinging at someone in trials caused me to progressively push myself away from them with each swing. What made it weird was i just kept swinging and ended up airborne and got sniped.

Happens a lot lately, you lock onto them, your controller vibrates like you hit them, but nothing. Right now melees are like 50÷ whifs... No comment on bungies side though...
