I'm not usually one to join in with the mass griping of certain topics - really, I could care less about microtransactions existing in the game, or streamers being an important part of its lifecycle. That said, this event just seems like its totally disconnected from the majority of the community.
First things first - event armor ornaments should always be obtainable by participating in the event. Like I said, I don't have an issue with MTX in general. What I have an issue with is seeing more stuff being released for MTX than we can actually get in game. This has been a massive issue for a long time - there are multiple seasons where upwards of 70% of new in-game items are only available through the store (not an exaggeration), and you can see it again here. There are relatively few earnable rewards for participating in the Guardian Games, but you can buy tons of stuff. When it comes to the armor - which is the most heavily marketed piece of the event - it should be obtainable through playing. I'm not surprised it has to be bought (cuz thats how its always been), but the event would be in a better spot if we actually got to play for it.
Also, the Guardian Games Cup is weak. Think about it: you release a new event in game, but then tell us that a huge focus is...watching Twitch streamers play? Not even us playing? And there's a set of rewards only available to the hand-picked streamers that nobody in the community has a shot at getting? Talk about a disconnect...with all the criticism of streamers having too much influence, this was just sloppy and shortsighted. I was excited to play GG until I realized that the most competitive part was reserved for a select few.
Anyway, I try not to be a hater, but these are just my initial thoughts. Gotta get in touch with your playerbase.

Ignoring this event as much as I can. It’s wiggity wack.

I could see the shop being used as it is if Bungie was actually offering content worth playing, but this BS lazy development of let's just keep the copy and paste work going in no way justifies putting more items in the shop and barely offering anything for the event. It's like IB, they don't offer jack -blam!- anymore. It's all recycled loot. This is how -blam!- lazy this company has become that not even waiting for expansions are worth it anymore. To be honest, Bungie literally sucks as a developer without someone like Activision pushing them to do their actual job.

2 RepliesUninspiring event and -blam!- rewards! A dreadful addition to an incredibly boring season.

38 RepliesHave you look at Eververse store? Right now there is more new items than there ever has been. More brand new emotes. Vex ornament. More outfits. Etc etc. This event was just an opportunity to get people to log in, and populate Eververse with more stuff than ever to buy. Don't fool yourself. Guardian Games actually means Eververse Games.

10 RepliesThis is the kind of cheap stunt which lead me to boycotting the game. If it was free I wouldn’t mind MX but not when it’s a full price release. Elden Ring is £50 and I would encourage EVERYONE to play that and experience a truly memorable game.

3 RepliesI just bought the ornaments with bright dust

13 RepliesI will be the hater for op. WHAT THE EVER LOVING HELL IS BUNGIE THINKING!!!! DRive your charity all you like using the entire community. Bungie has been championing inclusion for how long now, and then finds a way to exclude all but around 40 players.. FORTY -blam!- players. That is all who get to participate in this Guardian Games Cup. The rest of us can purchase ingame items, watch others play and donate to a charity. Sure its a free (nothing is free people) event, previously paid for by those who pay for the game and the dlc, or from some other mechanic that creates money incentive for bungie to feign a free activity. And if the drive was for the class competition within the community then great. And to the top mote depositor to win the cup I could get behind that. but, for it to be limited in scope to selected few streamers with no qualification allowed for all to attempt to be included (similar to the real olympics) just shows us all how much of an old boys club bungie still is.

14 RepliesEdited by Demon_XXVII: 5/4/2022 10:00:14 AMSo It seems that Bungie spent time & resources to make “watchable content” - they have created the Guardian Games Cup https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/51298 a brand-new out-of-game event, we have assembled class fireteams from across the globe to participate in our first ever Guardian Games Cup – a friendly competition to see which team in the world has what it takes to come out on top. From May 3 to May 24, cheer for your favorite streamers as they compete in class teams, both in-game and for charity! phhuck that - the game is meant to be created for ALL the playerbase Not 42 teams of bloomin streamers Winners get an actual engraved trophy? (& 1000’s of dollars in advertising revenue from sponsors/uploads etc) Whilst we mere mortals can buy charity stuff for $25 upwards I don’t blame anyone for taking weeks off Destiny2 Especially 2022 Guardian Grind (less controversies and concerns affecting the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics) Charity ? I’ll just go stick £200 in the nearest Royal British Legion/Combat Stress/Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal box If I’m playing D2, I’ll probably finally run the WQ campaign on my Hunter @Bungie - that shot went high & wide! Tell you what, let’s make it REALLY Watchable Put all these streamers in a Winner Takes All “Pink Slips” competition Competing with each other to get the fastest flawless grand masters, master raid completions, 5500 comp, flawless rumble, trials & solo master flawless dungeons Losers permanently lose their accounts & have to delete their D2 Accounts, Guardians & YT/Twitch channels 🤯 The winners get bragging rights & vanguard status in game! 😈 That’ll make it watchable 😄

I doubt the point is to watch every streamer every day if the event, or even watch your “favorite” streamer every day of the event. Watch as much as you normally do. If that amount is zero, ok. Guardian Games isn’t the first event to have armor ornaments only available via Eververse. Every event is like this, and has been since before Guardian Games was even a thing. GG is no more egregious than any other previous event. Is it a boring event with little to no reward encouraging participation? Absolutely. I wouldn’t mind seeing that change. Is worth what we pay for the event? Sadly, yes. The event is definitely worth $0. The Guardian Games Cup part of this with the streamers doesn’t even require the Bungie developer team to do anything. This is like marketing or community manager type coordination. This isn’t some streamer only Dungeon or Raid that will only be accessible during the Guardian Games. It’s just leveraging their most recognizable players for a charity drive. The streamers could say no, but they also like the exposure, and it may make some of them feel good to have any positive impact on a charity.

4 RepliesYouTubers and streamers are Bungie's only focus. They're why the games difficulty is constantly on the rise, crushing solo players. They're why new weapons and armor, quickly gets nerfed into the ground, usually before the average player even receives these items. Bungie's "minority rule" system is terrible as a marketing philosophy. Fans of this game need to do something.
-
You think that’s bad? Wait til next season when a dungeon comes out only available to people who shelled out $99 for the WQ gold card ultra deluxe members only yatch club plans.
-
3 RepliesGamers: We don't want FOMO! Bungie: Okay, turn the FOMO up to full blast! Bungie: Okay, we listened. This just another FOMO marketing scheme, that's all, just like festival of the cost-, I mean lost.

4 RepliesI hate to point this out, but if you wanna PLAY for the armor ornaments, then you can. There's a thing right there called bounties and guess what? You get this stuff called Bright Dust for completing them and then you know what you can do with said Bright Dust, yup, you guessed it, you can buy the armour ornaments you're so fond of not paying ACTUAL cash for. You're welcome for me bringing this to your attention by the way, I'll consider it my good deed for the day, in the spirit of GG an all.
-
Why can't there be a Guardian World Cup for players who have supported this game before it became "Free To Play"? Where's our VIP treatment? 🎻, sad violin plays. A streamer only event sounds wrong. The D2 community should also have a ticket in to this event.

Edited by King: 5/4/2022 4:33:23 PMSurprisingly, the one detail that has disappointed me the most with the Guardian Games is that there is no associated soundtrack when you arrive at the Tower. I was like, “aww…” Lol

I would also say that you should get the ornaments, ships and sparrows DURING the Games. I mean, they are ugly enough to give away. But here Bungie is unfortunately a bit misguided - I paid 99 EUR for WQ + Seasons, buy also in the Eververse, but they do not stop on Bungies side to further wring out the already vigorously milked cow. This is very unappealing. Particularly clever on the side of Bungies is also not - if you want to make money, then you should be able to buy the things individually in ornament sets, there would be sold significantly more. Nothing. Or you charge a monthly fee - then the user can choose between free and subscription and in the subscription is then everything included. Presumably it would then run so - there is then a subscription, subscription plus, subscription premium - only with premium you can play all raids and GM. I think there is a special department at Bungie that has the task of finding out how high the pain limit of the player base is. That's not okay.

very well written and to the point.

9 RepliesWhat are the streamers getting out of this that we don't? TBH I'm more annoyed with how bad the SMGs perk pool is.

5 RepliesThose of us in the relevant tier community firmly disagree.

This and obviously it’s unbearable painful to be accurate in descriptions and like „caring“ for a game ? The query from day one failed, could have been tested .. otherwise than mentioned you CAN‘T earn medals by playing activities, you have to play special ones that are not even mentioned, narrowing the way to participate in this event massively . Playing a normal strike. Nope doesn’t give you a medal, list sector, by definition of bungie an „activity“? Nah doesn’t compute .. the catalyst is grind this -blam!- and then grind some more .. not great .. and the focus is on complete strangers that play the game on some streaming platform .. Destiny is not in year 1 anymore there are no giant names anymore it’s the x-th streamers generation and everything has already been said in grueling details from old streamers .. not great .. reward some players not streamers .. streamers are outdated

8 RepliesEdited by Taejzon23: 5/3/2022 11:19:05 PMWhen people keep pre-ordering and giving praises for mediocrity, it won't end. Especially with new lights never experiencing the content. Consistent cash cow. They have this formula down pat now. Like putting on a pair of socks. I learned my lesson with the "Anniversary Content". My opinion only. (Another void SMG, anyone?)
-
Yeah I'm just gonna grind the playlist for the points to unlock the shader then I'm gonna take it easy, don't care about nothing else really Idek if i should bother trying to get the ship since that one is tied to another timegated grindy triumph

Big NO and FAT BOYCOTT from me! Keep it up Bungie and you will lose even more 👍
