You announced that you are extending contest mode for Vow of the Disciple in this tweet:
https://twitter.com/BungieHelp/status/1500271045856534534
Please clarify that it will be optional after 24 hours or reverse this decision. The vast majority of us have zero chance of clearing contest mode, so we now have to cancel plans we made weeks ago. Blocking out an entire Sunday for 6 adults is not easy. Many of us have jobs and families, so we can't just reschedule because you changed the rules with less than a day of warning. We go to great lengths to set aside this time because Destiny raids are the most special experience in gaming, and you just ruined it with this last second change. If you don't intend to make it optional, I truly hope you reconsider, even though .0002% of your player base will miss out on 1 emblem.

8 RepliesEdited by Scratch: 3/6/2022 5:32:12 PMStupid question here ...but Should the contest end once someone wins the contest?
-
I can only presume that they did this because so many people were getting kicked out and thus those who wanted that completion and the flex to say they finished it with a huge disadvantage is something competitive people want

5 RepliesEdited by SlaughterMouse: 3/6/2022 4:26:59 PMI totally agree. I have a few hours left this weekend to do this raid again and then I have to go back to my normal work life. Yet I'll have to suffer through contest mode today and then wait until the rest of my normal working friends are available again next weekend. Please stop building games for streamers, or eventually they will be your only players.

10 Repliescontest mode is a waste of 24 hr. Streamers are lame and I do not understand why anyone wants to watch someone else play a game.
-
7 RepliesEdited by vxvxTITANxvxv: 3/6/2022 4:32:00 PMThat sucks that they extended it. The majority of players don’t give half a crap about contest mode.

3 RepliesSome of the comments are suggesting that because normal mode will be around for years, my group can just reschedule. Rescheduling is not possible, because of how my group likes to engage with this content and the fact that tomorrow is Monday. We prefer to play a bit of contest mode on day one to check out the raid, then reconvene for the long haul on day 2 to beat it. We also have a "no guides" rule, because one of our favorite aspects is figuring out the mechanics on our own. Since the group doesn't just raid with each other, there's really only the one chance, because it's unrealistic to expect all 6 people to not raid with their other friends during the week people are most excited about the new content. Maybe there are a lot more of the guide followers and sweaty emblem hunters than groups like mine, and Bungie has every right to prioritize their concerns if it's the best choice for their business. I just want to make sure Bungie knows groups like mine exist and that we're disappointed, because that's how user feedback works. Software companies track user personas, and it's helpful to get feedback from all the different archetypes, whether it's a person that is getting screwed out of an emblem or a video game forum poster ironically lecturing people about what's important in life.

It should be permanant, easy mode should not exist, -blam!- casualisation

7 RepliesMy lord, the first world problems. 6 grown af adults cant play a videogame because life. daaaang.

You'll survive, the raid isnt going anywhere soon
-
Am thinking if you have no chance at contest mode you have no chance with out a raid guide….. who do you think makes these? Chill dude this raid will be around for a year minimum.

12 RepliesEdited by Midnight: 3/8/2022 2:25:00 AMContest mode was extended because the ones who take it seriously didn't get a fair shake because of servers. It was like 5 hrs of anteaters. It was actually really cool of Bungie to do.
-
3 RepliesI agree and I don’t even plan on doing the raid until next week lol, contest mode from the start has been a pointless addition, it’s whole point was to even out the world first teams but it hasn’t done that at all. The exact same teams are winning and everyone is reaching the correct light for day 1 so it’s completely obsolete. Why block the entire raid off to most players for the sake of 300 people in their basement streaming trying to beat something before someone else does. World first went from: cool little extra thing that was a friendly competition to an esport that no one cares about and just inconveniences the community.
-
1 ReplyWhy is that not being communicated on this forum? Why do Bungie expect me to have 5 tabs open just to be up to date with news and issues? Is that your official forum or just dumpster fire?
-
9 RepliesContest should just be gotten rid of. It’s only real purpose is to make raids seem more challenging and brutal than they are. They only introduced it after SotP was beaten so fast and after an embarrassing amount of people were able to complete it so quickly
-
1 ReplyThis is a tough one. I completely understand where you're coming from - my clan struggles to raid because of outside responsibilities, and I'm the only one who consistently raids. Its not easy getting everyone together so your frustration is understandable. Our best solution (that we have yet to effectively put into practice) is to try and do one encounter per night, since not everyone can commit to full runs. I do think there are two sides to this though, and I think its being unfair to those who raided over the weekend to take your stance. Vow had more players attempting contest-mode clears than any raid ever has, and that's what likely led to the server issues, so the whole ".0002%" claim you make just isn't true. On top of that, ya gotta put the situation into perspective. I know it really sucks having to change your plans, but the raid isn't going anywhere. You have the rest of this season - and probably a few years after that - to enjoy this raid. Contest mode happens once and then its gone forever. A lot of people put in a lot of time preparing for this weekend too you know, and your logic is "who cares if they're literally unable to attempt the raid because they keep getting booted, too bad for them". That's kind of a sad mentality. Now, in an ideal world I'd go with what you suggested - make it optional to opt in during the extension. That's not as easy as just flipping a switch though. We have no idea what changes would need to be made to accurately give out the Day-1 emblem, and they'd obviously need to make interface changes to allow for players to switch. It may not sound like a lot of effort, but changes like that require dev time, dev-testing, QA-testing, and deployment, which may just not have been possible in the <24 hour window that existed before the extended contest mode began. I really am sorry that you had to push things back, and I hope you folks get another opportunity soon. Its really a fantastic raid and I think its gotta be up there with Last Wish for best in the game, if not better. The truth is that this was just a hard situation that kinda dealt some crap to the whole community. Players like you had to delay plans, and a lotta teams were able to be the raid during the extension, but others just had to call it quits cuz life gets in the way and they couldn't spend a second day raiding.

Personally, given what happened this time around, I actually think they should maintain Contest mode through the end of the first week for future raids. The Contest mode of new raids is one of the few times where there is a genuine challenge for all players. This also gives an opportunity for more players to get the "Day 1" emblem (Although I'd rather they have a separate "Contest" emblem for the Day 2+ clears). This would not only allow for more teams to try for the Contest Mode clear without feeling like they need to stay up for 24 hours on Saturday, but also start off the non-Contest mode on reset meaning players that don't attempt Contest don't feel pressure to do the new raid on all characters before reset.

9 RepliesEdited by Demon_XXVII: 3/6/2022 6:02:54 PMRemember Raids in general are only run by 5/6% of the playerbase & of that 5/6% - Contest mode isn’t meant for 99% of those players It’s for the 1% sweats on Twitch in these ‘elite’ clans & pro players Recall how LS wanted GM’s to be watchable content ? Well it’s like that! Another bloomin joke!
-
11 RepliesBut 95% of player base don’t raid or do trials but that’s what bungie focuses on. They should add more campaign missions monthly instead of raids. Just saying :>

6 RepliesEdited by WormChi: 3/6/2022 4:02:27 PM100% agree. My raid team has had this Sunday planned for a month. We all have families and busy lives and decided to raid this Sunday instead of Saturday to avoid contest mode. Some members of our team are international and even took tomorrow off work. We all decided to go in blind together and have been avoiding all spoilers for the last 24 hrs. We just want to enjoy the new raid fresh and discover things on our own. This decision completely ruined that experience. We will now never be able to go in blind and won’t have a brand new raid for at least a year. I could care less about that emblem. I just want to discover the raid on my own and not deal with the annoying contest mode. Frankly I’m sick of it. It’s not worth the time in my opinion and makes the raid not fun. I paid for this game and want to enjoy the pinnacle activity but instead you’ve walled it off for the entire weekend because some try hards want an emblem that they prob won’t even get in 48 hrs either. This is a bunch of BS.

3 RepliesEdited by Risky: 3/7/2022 4:06:44 PMJust remove contest mode after the the world first is verified.
The World First race for Vow of the Disciple will take place in Contest Mode. This is a unique variant of the raid, only offered for the first 24 hours, capping every Guardian at a specific Power level to ensure an even playing field.
Contest mode is so World first race is on equal footing.contest mode is no longer needed once the world first has been cleared . its purpose has been served, so remove it. the joy of day one comes from running the raid blind, solving puzzles, without youtube guides. not from DPS meta checks. contest mode frustration and meta reliance compromises and betrays the fun of the blind run.
-
So if we completed contest mode on day 2 even if people hopped in to each encounter seperately, it counts right towards getting the emblem.
-
They really screwed the porch here, didnt they Harry?

Edited by MaDDoG_1724RKOs: 3/6/2022 5:07:36 PMAgreed, I've been waiting since Thursday evening to do my final pinnacle 2s on each character, aka my raid drops, and most likely get 1560 baselight this week... def going to be the longest monday ever, work then try to cram in 3 raids and sleep before Tuesdays shift, smfh

Contest mode should either end or be optional once the first ten teams clear. That would give the rest of the community that doesn't care getting 50th in the world, or whatever a fighting chance to get the day one emblem. First 10 should get an exotic emblem or something.
-
Agree 100%.
-
Personally. They should have Contest Mode til the first reset, obviously being Optionally after Day 1. Have your Standard Day 1 Emblem and if you beat on Contest after Day 1, you get an emblem similar to the Day 1 emblem but a little change or an inverse in color scheme.
