So...what irritated you today?
Elderly relative: "Hey, our mailbox got broken by a snowplow. When you pick us up...is it possible you could take a look at it?
Me: Sure. Can you take a few pictures and text them to me so I can bring the right rools and materials?
Relative: I don't know how to do that.
Me: fair enough. Can you describe what happened? Is the mailbox itself broken or just the post?
Relative: Just the post. It broke about 8 inches down.
Me: Is it a wood post or metal?
Relative: Wood.
Me: Ok. I'll take a look at it, shouldn't be a hard job.
I proceed to grab some scrap 2x4s, saws, impact driver and screws with the intent to splint the two pieces of post together with the 2x4s. I drive 45 minutes and arrive to see that the mailbox is one of those plastic ones and the post is broken at ground level. The ground is frozen and I didn't bring any post hole diggers or 4x4s. FML

Is it a hollow plastic pole, like PVC or something? If so, insert a wood or metal pole inside the plastic one and fill in around it. Use the scrap 2x4s to brace it from a couple sides. It’s a decent temporary fix until you can place a new pole/2x4 into the ground after it’s not frozen.

We have 2 temp employees and a new hire at my job. One temp has been around for at least a month now, one was hired about 2-3 weeks ago, and the new guy was hired last week. All three are lazy, though I think the new guy just doesn't know what to do yet, and our oldest temp is a complete -blam!-. On Wednesday, we tasked the three of them to label our mattresses in boxes in our stock area. All they had to do was write down the name, SKU, and size on a label and stick it to the box. 10-15 minutes later, one of my coworkers comes over to see them trying to take the mattresses out of the boxes. When he asked them what they were doing, the dumb one told him that he thought that they were supposed to open them up first, even though we already had boxes with labels on them as a reference for what they should have been doing. Fortunately we stopped them before any of the mattresses were taken out, but we had to reseal the tops.

I have a job at a textbook warehouse. I was listing a bunch of books, which is putting them in their locations and eventually up for sale. I pressed a button or something and went off the tab I was on. All the books I were listing were unsaved and I lost all my 2-3 hours of work. And now there’s a bunch of books around the warehouse that are missing and will never go up for sale. Very frustrating.

Cars transmission has an issue. Not sure whether to spend $1400 on it with car market being what it is, or sell it for what it's worth and get a different car later. On top of that, I woke up, showered and got an ocular migraine that knocked me on my -blam!- all day.

2 RepliesLe sigh. My job is slowly becoming irrelevant. My operator is moving towards having ‘adults’ take over essential functions in his stores. So he’s hired a ‘director of drive thru operations’ which translates to most of my responsibilities at work. He’s also moved another GM to my store and he’s taking a lot of my responsibilities so I’m basically down to the most basic form of my job and honestly it’s devastating. I understand why he’s doing it, a lot of students have not been on the ball like they should. But I love my job. I love every little bit of it and it’s being slowly whittled away… Ahhh. I knew this was going to happen eventually but it makes me so sad.
