I think they should grant more melee energy on shotgun kills and make the Defensive Strike more resistant against combatants.
Love these gauntlets, but they do need a bit of a biff in PvE.

Or maybe instead of granting a small bit of melee energy on shotgun kills it gives a chance to fully regen your melee in shotgun kills. I know that alone would make the No Backup Plans a great semi-neutral exotic.
