I think Bungie needs to rework their approach to difficulty levels a little bit in order to make them more accessible to players who cannot no-life the game. In D1 difficult content such as the Nightfall and Hard Mode raids were difficult for average players but there was no real gatekeeping as the power level needed to participate was reasonable to achieve.
In D2, however, you now need to get to a max pinnacle level AND typically +20 on your artifact. This means that you need to have decent RNG with limited pinnacle drops AND grind out 200+ seasonal levels to get +20 on your artifact. This is more of a TIME issue vs being difficult to achieve. Not everyone has the time to average 2-3 hours a day to get to these power levels in a timely manner in order to be be able to jump into the most difficult end game content before the season ends.
This does not mean that the content itself should be easier, just that the requirements to play it should be. It should only be about team coordination, load outs and skill. I know that there are many people who think it's "fine as-is" and nothing needs to change. Why does it matter if it changes so long as the integrity of the challenge still remains? The challenge should be in the activity itself, not getting to that magical participation number.
My suggestion would be that, at a minimum, those who at least play the game regularly (ie 3+ hours every week?) should be at that magical participation number by the time the seasonal story ends.
Yes, the pinnacle grind is a bit easier to achieve now that we do not need to also grind to a new hard cap, however you are still heavily dependent on RNG and some people simply do not get to acquire all the pinnacle drops each week for various reasons. If you are fortunate enough to play a lot and this power grind is "easy" then good for you. Just be considerate to those who are not able to sink as much time into the game, especially since the power grind restarts every season.

11 RepliesThis would only cause less competent players to be attempting end game activities, complain that they’re to hard, and get all the challenge removed from destiny. End game takes effort and dedication and with seasonal challenges, bounties that give good xp rewards, and the pinnacle only going up 10 points this season was the easiest to reach 1340. They’ve made it easier and easier.

2 RepliesMaster VoG, which I assume you are referring to, is for people who are currently farming GM's. This is not meant for everyone, it is not made to be accessible to everyone. Also, I work a full time job and have been playing WoW/Outriders for the past 2 months and I'm at 1340. It really isn't that hard to level. This can be done with a team of people over at minimum 1335 which is GM power anyway. The bump is only +10 now not +50, pinnacles drop from like 20 different sources, and with seasonal challenges that give you x8 xp (literally got over 15 levels just by handing in 2 x8 xp challenges). Bungie could not have made this stuff more accessible while also keeping it difficult.

38 RepliesNo. We can't keep going down this road of making everything "accessible." That's how we got vanilla D2. Some things are naturally going to be inaccessible to some people. There is nothing wrong with this.

Why is 3 hours the magical number

2 RepliesTL DR bungie doesnt know how to make hard content, their definition of hard is dump champions all over the place
-
11 RepliesI would like them to stop making the light 1350 and I’d tear make it like 1320 but cap us at 20 light under for example allowing players who can’t play enough to be able to try these activity’s

15 RepliesSome idiot somewhere: part of the difficulty is that not everyone can get in.

A lot of people seem to forget that D1 made you do activities while under-levelled. Hard Mode VoG was Level 32 when the cap was 30, Hard Mode Crota was 34 and 32 respectively, Skolas was 35 and 34. At least now it's possible to be at-level for those activities. Yes, 1350 is a level that only the players who can grind the most will be at, but 1335 is a completely reasonable Power to be at this stage in the season for players who actually have intentions of trying that activity and it can most definitely be done while down by 15 levels. GMs force you to be 25 under, for comparison. I rarely do bounties and certainly don't farm them but was able to get to 1335 in time for the first GM of the season and I got to 1340 yesterday. There are still five and a half weeks of the season left, that's more than enough time for people to get to a high enough power level.

Grinding artifact levels ain’t for everyone. Def not me! Let the +20-30 artifact, hardcore players have their time in the sun and wait until next season for the power level to increase.

D1 did the same thing kind of. You could join a mission severely under leveled. Enemies were just immune to damage

I personally think that the hard modes should be more akin to the D1 system, slight power changes, (maybe) no revives, and more mechanics. I feel that many people who are even at light for Master VoG won’t even want to run it other than the challenge every week just because of how it currently is. That being said, when there are mechanics, people complain if they’re too hard. As Datto pointed out, almost every Riven run is a cheese and people complained about Spire because you had to do mechanics. That being said, people are naturally going to complain no matter what. Not saying it’s not justified but that’s just how it is.

Double the xp on all bounties. Make all pinnacles actually pinnacle.

1 ReplyEasy solution that Bungie doesn’t use that much for some reason: Contest Mode.
-
Some time of minimum power level is necessary to avoid someone just logging in, doing the activity and nothing else, it keeps the number of players and hours played up for the company. At the same time, I think that a compromise can be reached, i.e. minimum will always be pinnacle level but GM, master raids etc will have contest mode to keep you at pinnacle level at all times for those activities . Contest mode can be edited per event also, a GM can bring you down 25 levels but Master Raid would be 30 for example
