So...small idea that came to mind.

So, I’ve been gathering some thought. About how factions worked, the recent reworks to the Gunsmith, that type of thing. And I think I’ve thought up something. What it essentially boils down to is the gunsmith actually being a gunsmith. Being able to craft your own legendary weapons. These would be split between frames, sights/perks, and weapon manufacturers blueprints. So, let us begin. Weapon Manufacturer Blueprints :
So, in essence, these blueprints would now come from the Gunsmith via reputation with each from the manufacturers (so, say, Omolon, Hakke, SUROS, Tex Mechanica, Veist, etc, etc). Obviously, this would require Bungie release more Legendary weapons obviously catering to these manufacturers. You gain this reputation by completing special bounties that each of the current vendors might be selling. For example: -Drifter might sell a SUROS bounty that requires you to kill enemies and Guardians in Gambit with Auto Rifles and Pulse Rifles, with more progress given for using SUROS weapons (SUROS Regime, Last Perdition, etc etc.) -Zavala might sell a Hakke bounty requiring you to kill enemies with Hand Cannons and LMGs in Strikes (with more progress made using Hakkë weapons). These bounties would change bi-weekly and reward you with a blueprint for a weapon. So say, the first bounty would reward you a choice between a SUROS Auto Rifle blueprint or a pulse rifle blueprint. The latter would reward you a Hakkë Handcannon blueprint or a Rocket Launcher blueprint. These, in essence, would form the basis of your weapon. Perhaps maybe even allow for the return of Black Armory weapons via Ada-1? IDK...
Frames
These frames would come from leveling up enough with these manufacturers. You would turn them in at Banshee, and he would give you a random ‘frame package, which would contain a frame (Rapid Fire, Lightweight, Adaptive, Aggressive, High-Impact, etc.), and a weapon kit that caters to a specific stat (Stability, reload speed, Impact, etc). An example of this would be once you level up enough with Omolon, he could perhaps offer a High-Impact package that contains a High-Impact frame, with a specialized stat in blast radius from Omolon which caters to Omolon weapons. This, in essence would allow you to choose who to level up with, and provide further mix and matching with how you want to design your weapon. (Example; you want to take a Hakke Frame, but want to give stats like a Omolon weapon. )
Sights/Perks Edit:
After some brief consideration, alongside the responses of valid criticism worrying about the idea of an immediate god roll selection, I’ve decided to rework the idea on how sights and perks work. I hope you enjoy, both those of you who are new to visiting this and those of you who might’ve revisited this.
Sights:
Sights, Barrels, and Mags/Specialized Rounds I feel are safe enough to the point where the original idea of mine’s could work. It breaks down to this; dismantling blue/legendary weapons has a chance of granting a certain barrel/Mag/ Sight mod. Assuming they return other sights from previously sunsetted weapons, this would mean that there would be a plethora to potentially nab. Obviously, it also hopefully makes blue weapons a little more useful beyond just simple fodder.
Perks:
Perks would work much differently. Essentially, rather than gaining them from weapons, you would instead wait until you reach the gunsmith to actually work with the perks. Additional details explained in the next spoiler.
And finally, after all that; the actual weapon crafting! Which would require a few things.
First, you have to have a weapon blueprint, frame, and a couple sights/barrels to mix and match with. My thought would be that, to bring weapon telemetries in as more important resources, these would be required in order to tweak an element, making it either a special or heavy. They would all start off as kinetic legendaries. Perks, however, work wildly different. Before you actually complete your weapon, you can choose between three different ‘subsets’, which contain a variety of certain perks. These perks subsets switch some perks every week, with more nominal/ considered ‘god-roll perks’ (ex. Rampage, Swashbuckler, Trench Barrel, etc, etc) being in their own subsets, only perhaps switching every month or two. When a specific subset is chosen, the weapon you create will select 2 perks at random. Considering the sheer number of perks in the game, my assumption is that there would be ten perks per subset. To alleviate the additional burden of potential RNG a little bit, you can buy a potential ‘veto’ item from Banshee (similar to that of the veto mods from the Cryptolith during Season of the Hunt) for perhaps a few enhancement cores/prisms, which allows you to choose two perks out of the subset you’ve chosen to get rid of. That way, it’s still RNG, but you essentially get rid of two potential useless perks out of your chosen subset, leaving another 8 to be potentially chosen. Maybe additional gunsmith materials can be required to: - Choose what specific masterwork to choose (say, a Reload Speed or Range Masterwork) - Make it an automatic masterwork (this weapon would probably start off at Weapon Rank 9) - Add an automatic kill tracker -Put more detailed visual customizations to it (engravings on the weapon, etc, etc.) Finally, the finished product would require a certain amount of glimmer, legendary shards and gunsmith materials. Maybe, put the weapon on a 24 hour cooldown just so that people could give it some time before the weapon is done. Once it is done, it’s given a random name based on its manufacturer, which you can change with like, 500 glimmer.
Miscellaneous Notes:
-Potentially, perhaps there can be Ghost mode that have a chance of giving off half of your XP from certain bounties and such to a specific manufacturers. Making it just a little easier for some people to go after a specific manufacturer/frame if they wish. -Additionally, another thought could be that there could be potential weapon mods separate to other weapon mods that provide a small amount of XP for each kill with a weapon to go to a certain manufacturer. Separate from the Ghost mods
I mean, I know this would be way too overambitious from a 20-something year old with way too much time on his hands, but I just wanted to get it out there. What do you guys think?

    • I love it but they would make guns that are at base inferior and only with perfect rlls are as good as the legendaries that drop otherwise there would be no reason to grind for drops

    • That's asking too much for a AAA studio that has 7 years experience on this IP and has 600+ employees that makes zero revenue.

Great ideas, but... At this point, I think it's obvious. They don't want us to make our own guns and then hold on to it forever. It's become obvious that they want to control what we play and how we play them. Controlled meta is what they want because that's how they sell the game now. They sell power via weapons and subclasses supers and abilities. They sell exotics, and new armor perks, and mods and everything in between. That's how this game works. Control is the play, and power is the currency. Powercreep sells. They've been selling it to everyone since the game launched. They want to sell it everytime they drop a DLC, expansion, or any paid content. And they want to take control of that power. Controlling meta is controlling powercreep in their favor. So they can sell it accordingly in their favor. Powercreep sells. Always! 😂😂😂

It's too complicated for Bungie at this point. The absolute best we can hope for is like D1 Taken King where they literally just dump 3 different Weapon Foundries into the lootpool, plus different archetypes within each Foundry to further diversify the Weapons. They've already killed off some of the unique perks (Hakke used to be the only 4-shot-burst Pulse rifles and the only Rockets with built-in Tracking) and they have dedicated themselves to completely random and arbitrary lootpools so I doubt we will ever see something so good again. Instead we have a weapon here and a weapon there, no real rhyme or reason... it just is. Ironically they even went out of their way and made weapons for these Foundries when D2 added ne weapons like SMGs and Grenade Launchers and filled in the gaps they didn't have. They even made a new Foundry (Veist) and did nothing with it. Now this whole concept is functionally unused and forgotten at the wayside. Randomly showing up in lootpools for little-to-no reason. Like the Black Armory had a slew of random Foundry weapons. And Omolon weapons generally being stuck in Year1 with a stray item here and there. All of what I just mentioned is entirely sunset mind you. The current one is the "Eternal Blazon" scout rifle I dismantle everytime I see it because it isn't the Rocket Launcher I'm trying to get and it's wasted RNG. Especially when the droprates for Gambit/Strike playlist weapons feels like it's legitimately rarer than Raid Exotics. Meanwhile Crucible gets loot-handholding like it always has since D1 and you can get a handful of playlist weapons (sometimes doubles!) in just a few games.

Edit One is out! Modified the Sights and Perks for those worried about a potential automatic god roll as a result of the original concept. It’s not perfect, but it should alleviate some worries about it. Also added a few miscellaneous thoughts.

              • Almost every looter has crafting , it would be interesting how custom legendaries would fit in Bungies carefully curated sandbox

              • Great idea!! I love it Destiny 2 loot system is lackluster at the moment with everything being start over from scratch grind hardcore for an arbitrary number and ignore all stats mods and perks until you are maxed out then focus on them it’s really a bad system it leaves people just grinding aimlessly around and not paying attention to content and perks and getting a feel for the crafting system etc. so basically I realized I only know 5-10 perks and I’m almost max lvl. That’s ludicrous coming from the person who spends all his time in mmorpg’s making builds that no one else has ever thought of. That’s the fun of games with any customization. Now I’m wasting all my end game time paying attention to every new gun and perk to see what they are and what they do. The only other option is look up some build online and grind what someone else considers a god roll. It didn’t feel like I was playing the game it felt like I was a slave for someone else and loot hunting for them and that was a big no no. So yes I support this bungie needs to look at reworking a lot of the way items work and give the player more control over the game.

                • This is something that would cut grind down too much (in bungie’s eyes). It’s why we’ve not had anything close to the customization of menagerie for so long. Bungie desperately needs to extend grind to keep people playing as long as possible to boost their population numbers and make themselves look better on charts. It’s why you never seem to get god rolls because I’m VERY sure different perks seem to spawn more commonly then others on weapons.. I’ve run presage every week and always get subsistence and snapshot on dead mans tale. I’ve only got 1 dead mans tale ever with something different, with killing wind.

                      • Why would they do that when they came out with Destiny 2 even though they weren’t finished with Destiny 1 Even though they removed two years of content Even though they keep giving back old content as a new content ie: palindrome D1 armor D1 weapons I wish y’all would accept that they do not care about what we want or how awesome your ideas are. I Respect the thought you put into this but the game doesn’t even have a regular vendor other than Xur. You’re asking them to spend more than 15 minutes of development time on something that they can’t just file pick from D1 and for that reason it’s not going to Happen. Yeah I’m salty I’ve spent hundreds of dollars and years worth of play time just to have the most exciting things be concepts by bored players in the forums.

                          • It would be cool, but it would just be a perk retool considering you can’t make your own weapon frames. Honestly just bring back reroll but allow for select slots. Makes it interesting without being too easy
