School Yard Pick CBMM isn't SBMM

Honestly Bungie, this is pitiful. Since June 2020 you've had consistent feedback that removing SBMM destroyed the Crucible for almost all non PvP mains. Lobby balancing isn't SBMM. It still means in 6v6 approximately two players on each team are FAR above the rest and simply clean up. They farm the others. They run out of medals. They shouldn't be playing the others at all. This isn't a fix, this is window dressing. A nice prettying up of complete garbage. Bring us the promised for Skill Tiers.

  • 6v6 SBMM: -punishes good players with long queue times -punishes good players with exorbitant lag -removes the one and only casual experience for good players 6v6 CBMM: -better connections all around -faster queues all around -makes 6v6 sweaty for casuals, but atleast they have 3v3 SBMM to escape to if they want -gives good players a place where they don’t need to play at a literal tourney level at all times Yea. Real hard choice there

    • IMO they should have a combination of SBMM and CBMM....IMO as a sub 1.0 K/D player I shouldn't be facing teams with 3 unbrokens, but pure SBMM led to very laggy lobbies. In the past they've used combinations of both systems which seemed like a perfect balance. I get the top 1% doesn't want to have to sweat through every match, but the excuse they used that they want to use other weapons doesn't hold water as nearly every unbroken I run into is using The Hammer or Messenger Adepts/Fellwinters or Astral combo and just crapping on people. Maybe use SBMM but increase the range of players in the SBMM player selection so that it's not insanely sweaty and it can prioritize connection within that selection and keep good connections and the unbrokens from farming the lower skilled players.

      • CBMM wouldn't be so bad if it actually worked. Facing a sweat as a potato is one thing, facing that same sweat who now can take a shotgun to the face and not lose health is another.

        • sad thing is. qp is supposed to be casual mode right?, its only casual for the top plyrs. me, if i want casual i go into comp. to get a closer to fair match. then i can enjoy it , until i realize its the same game mode all the time.

            You're right. Even though I don't particularly care for it so far, its not nearly as broken with the no shot registration, constant join in progress, people mysteriously dropping from teams due to "networking issues" then being replaced right as the score becomes tied, no shot registration, comical movement disparities that are based on stats from who knows when, playing the same people repeatedly, increased spawn kills, being completely and objectively inconsistent as hell in terms of environmental conditions from match to match, and no shot registration with no real way to earn your way to shot registration. This community probably doesn't really need to be debating the "more to it" so that kind of sucks, but you can't just take what you see on the screen and say that's exactly what's happening with this stuff. Putting those two players with people of their supposedly same skill level constantly really shouldn't be seen as a feasible option for a whole host of reasons. Look at how the game ends up working for a lot of people with such a simple little change to lobby balancing. And people want constant micromanagement that was never really real in the first place. Not even a little bit real.

            • Well the plan is already failing. Junk yard shuffle fails in 6v6 lobby. And does not help in solo que. SBMM works, sweats get to play with their peers, and the others likewise. Sweats just just want to walk over stomping the low tier players. Top 1% does not want to go against the 1%.

              • ANY... I repeat any casual quickplay mode that does not prioritize connection is a joke SBMM in competitive is fine but quickplay... come on guys.

                • Connection based matchmaking helps everyone except the absolute worst players. If it's really that bad for you, you have some substantial personal work to do to stop sucking so bad because you can't expect Bungie to carry you all the time to free wins.

                          • Casual playlists shouldn't have competitive matchmaking settings. Look at the shit storm that is the past 2 CoDs for why SBMM should never be a requirement for casual modes.

                            • Today's change has ruined my matches. Previously I was winning 2-3 then losing 1. Now it's just a constant string of losses with the lobby balance being more lopsided.
