I've fallen down a lore hole this am but I realized I have 1 big question:
Are people who are more modern, recently born gaining light too? Or is every guardian from an older time? (Thinking about the opening/ first mission in D1)

Edited by Grays_KS27: 1/8/2021 12:37:46 PMIt doesn’t matter when a person was born or when they died, they can be revived. Shinobu is an example of someone who was born and died post-Collapse, then revived. We know the Drifter died pre-Collapse because he had a proper burial, then was revived. Uldren was alive pre-Collapse, died and became an Awoken at the end of the Collapse, died again in Forsaken, and was recently revived. All Awoken Guardians died at least a couple centuries after the Collapse, actually, because the Awoken didn’t leave the Distributary until the City had grown, shortly before Six Fronts. Etc.

2 RepliesEdited by DragonKnight901: 1/3/2021 12:36:20 AM..... now im kinda thinking of the possibility like god damn george washington as a guardian Edit: actually a weird thought came to me can a ghost choose their guardian if they were cremated?

Becoming a Guardian isn't a matter of when you're born. Eris for example grew up in the city age with a little brother, meaning that she became a Guardian recently in the grand scheme of things

3 RepliesEvery Guardian that was brought back can be older(Osiris, Saladin) or even younger (Shan Han, Crow,) in thier past lives. But since we're Immortal Age isn't a Factor we acknowledge, unless your Eris, or Osiris. Because there now Mortal.

7 Replies<As in post-Collapse? Yeah. Uldren's one of them.>

2 RepliesYes. We have the Young Wolf generation, the Red War generation, and the New light generation as examples of post collapse Guardians. People must die to become Guardians though.

Most definitely, though keep in mind crow(uldren) is an outlier as he was around pre-collapse as one of the first awoken. To explain why and put it into short terms, the light and the traveller are sort of beyond the rules of the universe, time doesn't effect them like it does us, its entirely possible that it is able to know of everyone, even those yet to be born.
-
Yeah, there isn’t a certain time limit. Some people were barely bones (like us when we are revived in the cosmodrome) while others haven’t even started to decay (Uldren) It’s always a question of the person’s Spark and their compatibility with the Ghost.

I have a question. Are beyond light new "players" Canon? As far as I'm aware the main guardian and slayer or oryx was resurrected a year before ttk.
-
I think its a case of the traveller spewed out a load of ghosts however many hundreds of years ago. However some of those ghosts are still wandering around looking for someone to choose to be their guardian hence the reason uldren got res'd as crow very recently

In the Ghost Stories tab there is a bit of lore of a ghost trying to lead people to safety through woods after a Fallen attack and in the attack a baby loses its life, the ghost then proceeds to res the baby effectively turning them into a guardian. So yes people are still becoming guardians, but they first must die and be resed by a ghost

1 ReplyBased on your replies to others, it seems you are asking if anyone who was born after the collapse can become a guardian. Yes, they can. Checkout lore for Shinobu

Guardians can be from any time. Take Crow, for example. His past self, Uldren, died only two years ago.
