Please just stop LOL.

Stop saying that sun-setting is "good for the game". It is a system that makes no actual sense. So it most definitely isn't good for anything. The stated goal was to give them the ability to add "new" powerful gear, knowing that it won't be around/relevant forever. There are a couple of issues with this. Say in September they add Jumping Spider, a sidearm that has a perk Webbed Ambush. Critical hits disorient enemies for a short time. Basically a flinch machine. And everyone loves it. The quest requires 1000 points from Trials(kills count as 1/10th of a point) and 2 pints of blood. Yay, it's new, the meta is changed, Recluse is dead... Now. If this or any other weapon/perk added is OP. They would have to adjust/nerf, just as they do now. Or, as has been suggested, this lasts a whole year. So Recluse is dead, now everyone is -blam!- about Jumping Spider for a year. Huh? What was the point? Also. Is that it? Is this new OP super fun weapon all we get? No. Of course not. Next season it is the "new" Mananan or Wendigo, etc. So now we have the same issues with whatever comes along as before, lasting a year, all the while we watch our normal, bread and butter gear, get vaulted, not because it was OP, no, it gets vaulted because it came out in season X, and now that seasons power cap is past. All so we can have "new" gear. The same meta issues. The same upgrade grind. The same boring ass loot pool. The same lack of rewards for activities. But our gear, and the materials we invest, now have a time limit. That kill counter people asked for? Welp screw that. You farmed how long for that roll? Ha! Nice one buddy. NET GAIN FOR THE PLAYER IS ZERO... Anything they would do to make the system more palatable, literally makes the system unnecessary. Add new perks and guns that people like? Then why did we need to vault our old gear, again? So people would use different things? Wouldn't people use the new shit anyway? Add new OP gear with a time limit? So... Trade one devil for another on a yearly schedule? Or, if they want to keep content fresh, a seasonal schedule? Sorry, but this just doesn't make sense. Being able to save gear and come back to it later is a HUGE part of the game for some people. It's the only real reason to collect loot. News flash, Bungie. Your story, your activities. Your events? Not all that interesting. Get loot to blow shit up. That's your game. Even the people who care about story can barely follow it, and even if it is a good idea, the fact that it has NO impact on the actual game. "ZOMG there is a giant ship coming towards the tower" "Yay, we are saved". "Did you hear about Dead Orbit?" "Gaurdian, I need to you go kill some Hive on a planet we could have easily controlled 3 years ago". Balance the game. Add loot DROPS to activities. Fix the -blam!-ing collections and inventory system. And stop trying to control what people use.

        • It’s not “good for the game.” It’s essential to it. Every loot game takes power or gear away from the player. If you are opposed to sunsetting then you are basically saying you don’t want to play loot games. Because Bungie has been sunsetting your gear now for two years. They just nerf it...,take away its power...and leave you with the illusion of being able to play it forever.

          • Here’s a much better idea. Completely remove PVP from the game, hence: - No endless balancing required - No countless nerf this / buff this requests - No sunsetting required - No cheating discussion to be had - No SBMM / CBMM discussion to be had - Far fewer whiners on the forums - More time to focus on PVE content Enough said - just rip the bandaid off.

            • I think a lot of people are convinced this will give Bungie a way to create new and exciting perks and things won’t get nerfed anymore because “they will only last a year”. I imagine the floodgates will open when people finally realize there aren’t any really new, broken perks coming, because they already would have if Bungie had perk ideas, and that Bungie will still nerf anything that’s too powerful. This has disaster written all over it but some people just don’t understand it yet.

                    • My issue with the sun setting of weapons is that I have collected a fair share of niche rolls of weapons, where they weren't really feasible to use due to the condition of the sandbox. With minor tweaks, the weapons could shine within the build tailored to it, but without a little love, the whole build just kind of sits in the vault waiting to emerge. Some are tailored to the champion system, others are not. People tend to use the best weapon for the job, and the data reflects people using the same weapons, so the weapon is the issue, and we must get rid of all of the weapons .. but it is mostly the sandbox not being well balanced that pushes players to one archetype, and even narrower, one individual weapon which offers the best rolls of that archetype. It's definitely more a sandbox balance issue than a weapon issue in my eyes. Now, the weapons which I was saving for the right time, will never really get their time to shine in the endgame, and need to be replaced with whatever is best of the new.

                      • Agreed. It always makes me laugh when I see people defending sunsetting, knowing full well that no matter how long or short these weapons are going to be in the game, if they are overpowered in any way at all whatsoever, people are still going to scream for nerfs or want them to be removed. Same old bullshit, different packaging.

                        • idk how they can justify this. They're literally trying to finesse their ENTIRE playerbase into receiving the same tired ass recycled re skinned loot drops but with a stupid ass twist. (You can't use it as much as you want and it will become obsolete) Bro what? What kind of lazy ass bandaid is this. Bandaid isn't even a good term this literally pouring acid on the wound. I don't understand how free to play mobile games can be so generous to their players but a game we all pay full price for and continue to pay for dlc, passes, battle passes etc can be so stingy with cosmetics, materials, loot etc. Its so obvious they don't play their own game at all and only intend to maximize profit with minimal effort.

                        • Ehy ThisWickedEarth =) I have read your thread, but more then about the Weapons Retirement, It made me think about what happened in this last year in the Community. To be more specific, what happened from the introduction of the Recluse and the Mountaintop. I think those two Weapons really caused a fracture into the Destiny community. They actually brought more bad then good. For basically one entire year, this two Weapons almost monopolized the entire game, both in PvE and PvP. I may be wrong, but I think that such a thing never happened before, neither in D1. The problem with these two Weapons was (well, in some cases, it still is...) the fact that basically they were TOO GOOD in everything. Recluse, an SMG that could made one single Guardian into a one-man-army no matter the situation. Mountaintop, a Grenade Launcher able to deal such a huge damage against everything with the precision of a Sniper Rifle. There was nothing able to compete with them. Recluse and Mountaintop raised the pick of the META so high that the difference between them and anything else was impossible to fill up. It was an "ALL OR NOTHING" situation. Here's what I think (btw, this is just speculation): Bungie understood they made a mistake, but too late. That's why we never had Pinnacle Weapons again: they didn't want to add another Recluse/Mountaintop situation in the game. Unfortunately, they made another mistake. They dind't nerf Recluse and Mountaintop when the time was right to do so. They prefered to leave them around, probably because they were worried to Nerf these two Guns after such a short period. They were worried from the possible reaction of the Community to see Weapons that required such a terrible grind to disappear so quickly! This situation then went on for months... and months... and months... People who finally got this Weapons with a great delay were terrified by the idea to lose them, and Bungie didn't do nothing AGAIN. Yeah, I know that Recluse got nerferd, but even so, the Gun is still top tier, right? And here we are. That's why I don't think (and I hope) that in the future we will see another "Recluse/Mountaintop" situation. I refer to your example of the New Pinnacle Side Arm. Even if we will have such a thing, it won't probably be so strong. Maybe it will be META, but not that kind of monopolized META that we had with Recluse and Mountaintop. And, at the same time, probably the grind or the tasks required to obtain it, won't be so heavy. Of course, this if Bungie actually learned by their mistakes. Recluse and Mountaintop should never arrived in the game as we know them in the first place. Also, I wouldn't be surprise to discover that with Beyond Light, Recluse and Mountaintop will also be Nerfed, no matter the Weapons Retirement. This in order to avoid to see them still around in the Quickmatch playlist. Of course these are just speculations. I might be completely wrong. We will se in the future. Sorry if I shared a different take from the main point of your Thread. Hope you won't mind.

                            • I said it in one thread, i'll say it in this one, although paraphrased. Sunsetting makes perfect sense. If it had been in the game to begin with. Day one of Destiny 1. Not Year 3 of Destiny 2. And that Destiny was designed like an actual MMO.

                            • So the underlying problem with sunsetting and everything is that bungie has built a game that isn't fun and they bribe players into activities they don't want to do with loot. Think about comp pvp, trials, most raids, dungeons, and lost sectors. If they don't have good loot most players won't touch any of them. Bungie should instead be investing in ways to change the world based on player choices, ways to make thing matter besides loot, and better ways to tell their story. 3 Examples off the top of my head. 1) World changing events: lets say for example the vex are building a huge vex mind on the moon. If enough guardians fight it the mind is destroyed. If we win we get vex themed weapons and for the next season we can fight vex infused fallen or hive on the moon. If we loose the vex overrun the moon. And in public spaces there are massive hydras all over that take two or more fireteams to take down and we can assemble armor from the defeated vex minds. 2) Sherpaing and carrying are parts of the destiny culture. Embrace it. Revamp guided games into a system where sherpas and carry can get unique shaders, emblems, ghosts, and armor based on how good they do. Create the equivalent of the warriors of sunlight from dark souls. Hell for pvp make the opposite. The reapers. If you join this clan and equip this gear you will specifically be matched against people doing carries. You can get unique loot from stomping carries. Make the stuff cosmetic only. But because people like doing this anyway players will invest in these systems. 3) The storytelling in destiny sucks. Give me a story playlist along side the strike playlist that specifically takes you through story quests. Let me go in solo or with a fireteam. For example the warmind story line. Give me a playlist of 5 missions that tell the story of the warminds. Every week swap out the story. Osiris, drifter, the last word, the red war, calus, cade and uldren, etc. Let me go on missions and learn the stories of the game. If I blast through it with OP weapons who cares, I'm there for the story. If bungie invests in stuff like this they won't have to worry about op guns and creating crazy loot that breaks the game. Sunsetting is not going to solve the loot issue in destiny. Every time bungie has done it they have reverted it because it doesn't work.
