Iron banner CBMM from a 50 YO perspective
I understand both sides of the SBMM argument and the CBMM side. I am a single player. Although I may be part of a clan they don’t play on XBOX. With my slow reflexes I still managed to finish the quest in 23 matches as a single player. Yeah it’s quite a lot but give an old guy credit. It’s not impossible. If you don’t believe it look at my warlock. I’m 50YO +. If I can do it anyone can do it if they truly tried. Please don’t make fun of my KD as I tried my best😳. Please be kind to one another as we all want this game we love to survive and we need everyone’s support👍🙏🤙
Update:
I finished all 3 of my characters yesterday. Learned to play a lot smarter. I actually won 6 matches in a row. One game of which I believe even I had for the first time in my destiny experience had a 9.0 KDA. My suggestion is this to those who are struggling. Find a load out that works best for you. For me it was witherhoard and my galliard or gnawing hunger. If a .86 KD bottom 38% player can do it anyone can.
And yes I had a lot of fun playing 👍🤙

5 RepliesI’ll be 70 this year. Been playing video games when i could through the years. A lot of video games:) . Have 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren. Corona virus has pretty much retired me at my age. I consider old age in good health a blessing to be able to relax and play this game and many others( when I’m bored with Destiny I level up my ESO characters). I practiced in the medical profession for 40 years,and to come home after seeing all the disasters that can happen to people, and just decompress playing video games occasionally was an adult therapy session. So yeah, a lot of us do grow up and some of us are fortunate enough to grow old. Don’t take a dim view of older players because in a video game some of us can’t seem to puzzle jump so well, die a lot:( and sometimes can’t seem to hit the broad side of a barn. It’s not for lack of effort I’ll tell you. Thanks for hanging in there on this long winded rant, so in closing, some of us have kinda grown up, had a successful life and want to play video games that have no real meaning in the real world. As we old timers say, your 5.0 KD and a dollar will get you a cup of coffee out in the real world. Peace, and try to to be kind to others.

But like you while video games have evolved, my ability to quickly and accurately get my fingers to move has been inversely proportionally degraded (whines the worlds worst jumper till I switch to being a Warlock main from a titan main). On the plus side, being a college prof., after spending a day dealing with whiny, entitled. I'm immortal delusion bonded college undergrads it feels soooo good to go blast them to hell in IB. Muhahahaha.

45 RepliesNot for nothing but age is a meaningless number. If you a slow reaction time 50 year old, you were a slow reaction time 30 year old. Don't lump people together and take pride in other's ageist assumptions. Regardless, 23 matches to get 50 kills is absolute proof this CBMM is not working and causing a massive disadvantage to mid and lower tier skill players. In a SBMM match you would have had more kills per match because, shockingly, you would have been equal to your opponents. CBMM is nothing more than a band-aid for lobby times, and anyone that says it is a great change is delusional or reveling in their newly acquired stomp ability. As we hear so often in this forum "NERF Stomp!"

I'll be 50 in a few months. There are A LOT of older players in the Destiny community. It's always cool to meet other older players, but there are so many other factors to playing well in PVP. Currently, Crucible is garbage.

4 RepliesSpeak for yourself. I'm 53 and it took me 2 matches to collect the 25 Sidearm kills using Devil's Ruin and 2,5 matches for the Auto Rifle kills using a decent roll False Promises. Maybe it's not your reflexes, but are you using the wrong weapons, the wrong mods, is your loadout optimized and such. I don't consider myself a pro player, I play Warlock, I play with controller on pc, I can't slide kill. But optimising your loadout helps so much and can be the difference between kill or to be killed.

Well I finished all the iron banner bounties and quest. It wouldn’t have been so bad if it wasn’t for all the lagging and teleporting players I came across. Overall not to bad for a 49 year old 🤷♂️😜

It’s not that bad really. I mean, you just need to complete 25 kills of each and that’s it, done. Hell, a person may finally see themselves improve somewhat having to run around with a sidearm.

5 Replies49 y.o. gamer that did "OK" in crucible, Iron banner. But now since Bungies "fix 2 weeks ago, my clan and clanmates are having a hell of a time. 60-75% of matches are getting mercy ruled against our team. Not to mention the horrible escalation in tea bagging and toxic comments to us all after matches. Been playing since 2014 2 weeks after D1 started(brother died). This all started once again after trials came back. Was nice when trials wasn't around any longer. "Those" players are what's breaking this game. 2017 I had my first of 3 heart attacks(2 that were widowmakers). My clan and I blame Destiny jokingly. I play "a lot". 10-12 hours a day. More before the heart attacks. Video games have been an essential part of my life for 40+ years. Still have my original Atari 2600. I'll play till I die. Things need to change in this game, pop is broken. Trying to get lfg people is another subject.

I’m over 50, I am just so slow sometimes 😂. I have a small window in the day when I’m reasonably sharp and I can scrape into double figures in Iron Banner 🍾👍 I played rugby for years and there are very many levels to compete at. The idea is that everyone wants a good game. Simple as that.

I see where you are coming from buddy.. my dad is 63 and still plays his warlock..not much in pvp, but we play battlefield 1&4 a lot together and he does 100% better there..hats off to you for playing a game which requires you to shoot first and die first 99% of the time.

50 yrs old as well. Took almost a 20 year break from video gaming. Started playing again because my nephews were staying in touch via game / party chat. Been playing Destiny since dark below. What i dont get is how I can hit 5 quickscopes one match and then the next I couldnt hit andre the giant standing in a doorway with a beachball from 3 ft away.
