'Fixing' Umbral engrams dropping at higher power... Why do it? Who does it hurt?

Come on Bungie. The power level grind is so poor at the minute and you just 'fixed' the Umbral engrams. Such a poor decision. I get the AFK farm but this just hurts the players. Why does it matter how quickly we reach max power? Surely people reaching the cap quickly and being able to effectively and enjoyably engage with the new content is a good thing? Especially as the dungeon won't be around next season. Just a really strange decision when there are plenty of actual problems that are due a fix. Edit: Spelling Edit 2: People are reporting receiving umbrals as powerful rewards, focusing and them decrypting at lower power than advertised. I shouldn't need to say that a bug that helps players is infinitely better than one that hurts players. It will be interesting to see how long this takes to be fixed.

  • As many 750 Umbral engrams I've gotten, (7 so far) I would expect that every so often I would get a high drop to offset the low drops

    Bungie don't like us levelling up 'too quickly'. They substitute a power level grind for actual content, so if we manage to level up too quickly it becomes apparent that there's very little new stuff to do.

        • It's like walking in Antarctica, butt naked, when it comes to leveling up in Destiny 2. Not that i'd ever walk naked with penguins in -30°F weather, but... What's the point of the leveling system? You still get owned by a measly Taken boomer or Cabal shield, which by the way, the deaths by Cabal shield are halarious...

        • The devs. It hurt the devs. They spent all that time (😂) creating a busted leveling system that sucks, just to have some unchecked programming (their fault) ruin it.

        • It was a bug, so of course they are going to remove it. A random bug is not going to be better than an intentionally thought out decision. That being said, they might still change the way power grinding works. In fact, in just a few months we are getting a forsaken-sized expansion. There's a decent chance we will get some improvements to how power leveling works.

          • The power grind is built wrong. Not everyone has the ability to play non stop everyday. The average casual players need a little leeway so don’t be so quick on the helpful bugs and so slow on the hurtful bugs. DerpyEagle17

              • I totally get the dislike of the current power grind. It's very frustrating to essentially be arbitrarily time gated in progression, especially when content like Prophesy existed and you're too under leveled to play it. I definitely understand bungie ending AFK farming. There isn't a logical reason as a developer to encourage players to not play the game. In my mind, the leveling aspect should still exist and be retooled. I think the best way to tackle this would be to end the "powerful/pinnacle" reward loop and replace it with a new flat leveling system (separate from the passive bonus overall levels you get). Essentially my idea would have an xp bar that each time it fills (and it would fill pretty quickly, say once or so per regular activity depending on performance) and award like 3 "power points" per level. You can then take those power points and directly add them to whatever armor you choose. Completing challenges and pinnacle activities and ranking up valor/infamy/glory would give larger sums of points. The above system would allow players to literally play the content they want, could still encourage players completing ritual activities like strikes as the current system does through those extra bonuses, and would end the RNG headache of duplicate drops. If you want to truly access that high level activity week one, you can grind for it with great consistency. Pinnacle levels (aka that last 10 points) could be handled by giving "overcharged power points" that can only be earned by wins in Comp at mythic and above, trials wins, IB bounty completions, raid encounter completions, and dungeon encounter completions.

              • I'm fine with them getting rid of AFK Forge farming. Despite what the Youtubers/Streamers would tell you, dropping your Power level wouldn't guarantee that you wouldn't interfere with legitimate players. I was around 1020 trying to do a Forge for a quest, and got matched with sub-750 farmers. I don't agree with the Umbral Engram "fix", especially after they already broke the AFK farm. Sure, the engrams are somewhat common in the world, but the Altered Elements are a bit of a nuisance. I feel the same way about this as I did the Menagerie nerf: It was more than Bungie intended, but it's not like you got something for nothing. You still had to farm Runes/Elements to get those rewards. This 'bug' was especially nice considering how few powerful sources there are in a week, and how many of those end up going into the same gear slot rendering them useless.

                • Yeah I’ll be honest I didn’t even know this was a bug because it was gradual and didn’t happen every time. I thought all my years of praying to RNGesus had finally come around.

                • Nothing and nobody, bungie and their infinite wisdom with feedback from their faithful streamers want the game to remain not fun and enjoyable. I love grinding my character for hours to get 15 light levels. I mean it really makes me want to dedicate all my freakin free time into leveling up my characters so I can go and enjoy the new content. Whatever, at this point I have a stack of other games that are building up and I would like to play. I love how they totally tank the most efficient and easy ways to power level other than their system in place right now, then they play the “we are waiting for your constructive feedback and suggestions about our power level systems” real nice move bungie, I really hope your community dries up and you gets left with the loyal grind lords. Oh wait they are even taking breaks and jumping ship to play other games. Good job. Keep up the good work.
