A HUGE win for the community, although it took WAY too long and shouldn’t have been implemented in the first place. Nevertheless, thank you Bungie for listening to your PvP community and not the bottom feeders that fought nail and tooth to ensure SBMM wasn’t removed despite its clear detriment to the game. Now, I’d really like to see the faulty team balancing system addressed. This is the real reason stomps are so frequent, and it will continue to be until it’s removed. I don’t wanna be back here fighting for CBMM in a year.
It’s not really a win for the whole community, just a segment of the community who wanted the change.

 • And the segment of the community that plays PvP the most. Why do some people think that the PvE side of the game should be for hobbyists but not the PvP side?

 • Now the 6v6 playlists are exactly that, for everyone. We all get the same shot registration that was previously reserved for people with high lifetime stats. I think that if people just play it they won't be as mad. Especially anyone who has been playing PvP since the beginning of D2. I bet the majority will be seeing higher overall stats. And tbh, even if they don't its not fair to give some people such an overwhelmingly negative experience with respect to product quality that the game for them is effectively broken. Especially if they've put in the effort over time to get better at something where people are competing.

They are excited to get kills on new and unskilled players. They say it directly. They can’t help themselves.

 • I can only speak for myself when it comes to the way the game works and I'm just excited to get kills, instead of the game constantly deciding whether its time for me to do that or not. As far as the high stat players and the way they act, a lot of them aren't nearly as selfish and assholish as people constantly make them out to be. Maybe people should try giving them the benefit of the doubt and at least considering the fact that they might understand what makes a healthy PvP environment. Its honestly just common courtesy to do instead of saying its all about farming lower skilled players.

It’s a part of the game. There is no need to give them the benefit of the doubt, you can just listen to the words they directly say. That’s them representing themselves.

 • I played quite a few matches yesterday and it is 10 times better. And that's for someone with pretty low lifetime stats. When the game uses connection as a priority instead of keeping most players to a 50/50 win rate its bound to get better latency-wise. And its not only the latency. SBMM means that the game actively does things that effect damage input/output and movement speed. I'm not sure what it bases this off of but all I can say is that when you play someone with a lot higher stats than you in "skill" based matchmaking that person will have all kinds of advantages that are based solely on what they game determines they should have. Its simply not fair for the game to be doing that much of the playing of the match and simulating outcomes based off of stats from 3 years ago. No one should have to accept the difference in overall environmental quality of PvP that SBMM institutes. Its simply not fair for people to pay for something that works the way it works simply because some people demand the illusion of winning matches while the game is doing all kinds of shady stuff to get the outcome it wants. Its totally unfair, and I say that in the most respectful way possible because I'm of the opinion that some of the reason they put SBMM in the game in the first place is the largely incorrect assumptions and stereotypes of people who play PvP. So I'm going to be nice and not say get good or stereotype you like you are doing people who like PvP in order to make your point.

I’m not stereotyping. A lot of “top tier” players were streaming or responding to the TWAB in real time yesterday, and they made their statements themselves.

 •
SBMM doesn’t effect stats, or “environment” just matchmaking.
This statement is 100% false. Before they turned it off my K/D for the last 25 matches was something like 1.5 after they turned it off my K/D finished at 2.75. SBMM effects stats. Period. Not only does effect stats and the matchmaking environment when it comes to things like shot registration and player movement, its also complete and utter hell for average to slightly above average players. As far as the top tier players streaming and making statements I didn't notice because I was too busy playing yesterday but you can't control other peoples' behavior and. I hope that going forward those people don't rub the fact that there's now a level playing field based on individual skill in other players' faces.

All SBMM effects is matchmaking. It doesn’t change anything in game. I never said anything about controlling someone else’s behavior. I said they made statements that reflected their true feelings about it. Glee at easy kills.

 •
It’s not false. All SBMM effects is matchmaking. It doesn’t change anything in game.
This is so untrue. Its literally completely 100% wrong. The game did not maintain a roughly 50% win rate for most players by only matching people of supposedly equal skill. Too often it wouldn't be matching people by any public stat that is anywhere to be found. It would give people advantages based on how "good" they supposedly are in order to make up for the fact that the pool of available players is so small that it has to give the part of the game that's still hosted on peoples' machines to someone. So it might as well be the guy with the inflated stats from 3 years ago. Its more believable that way. The matches had become so rigged with the trying to hold people to a certain win rate that the game would drop people from matches in order to get the outcome it was programmed to get. People are looking at this all wrong. Just using DT and how they can predict match outcomes pretty well, you have to look at it like it is just predicting what the game is going to do not what peoples' actual skill is because the game is locked into providing some people with a way higher win rate and way more kills than they would otherwise have if the playing field was truly as level as possible. The game takes shot registration and match quality from some people and recycles it into wins for others. Many of whom do nothing but say how much they hate PvP in the first place. Its not fair to people who have gotten better over time and its not fair for a large enough portion of the playerbase that it should never have even been allowed to continue on like this for this long in the first place. And I say that as respectfully as possible.

 • Then why is there two different kinds of matchmaking that we are talking about? Its actually been more than two but you would have to acknowledge what the term SBMM really means in order to accept that. There's no way this game is keeping so many people at a roughly 50% win rate by just simply matching people of similar "skill." There's simply not enough people in each caste or whatever SBMM sticks people into for them to do that. Its pretty obvious if you play a decent amount the things this game will do to get the outcome it was programmed to get. If you don't notice then that's fine. You have had a completely different experience with SBMM than me.

 • That just is not true at all when SBMM or anything else is trying to force a 50% win rate across a relatively small player population that even more sliced up so some people can enjoy a simulated PvP experience while other people have to suffer with horrible sandbox quality. I would love for you to show me anywhere where anything says that all SBMM does is match players by their supposed skill and then just lets everything else play out naturally. Luke said himself in one of the DCs that there is much more to the way matchmaking works than skill and connection. Either way the people who previously had to deal with an unacceptably substandard product experience should not have to have less quality just so people can have manufactured wins. SBMM is overly manufactured and like I said, with all due respect, the people who can't tell are not the best people to be listening to when its time to decide how PvP should work.

All the system influence happens while the game is being populated with players. It has nothing to do with influencing the game itself. No one runs faster, no one has more aa, and no one has difference damage based on matchmaking. The match is made then the match is played. Two different things.
