7 RepliesThis from another article on Luke Smith... "It was a 24-hour effort for Smith’s character. When he slept, friends would log into his account to play and receive carapaces from others. During the day, Smith organised raids to defeat the bosses required to earn the three shards to craft the sceptre." It's no wonder he doesn't mind wasting all our time. https://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2-game-director-luke-smith-talks-about-wows-most-ambitious-world-event-ever/

1 ReplyThe key thing in that, I think, is the point he makes about Luke Smith/Bungie apparently forcing you to use guns you are not comfortable with because they don't want you getting comfortable with some equipment that suits you. That is epitomised in the current bunker clearing thing. You have to use barrier/overload mods to stand any hope of getting through but in this season they have focussed on close range weapons like sidearms. So you can only put the necessary mods into those. If your usual play style (what you actually "like"!) is Scouts and Snipers then being forced to go up close and personal is just frustrating beyond belief. (oh and he's right about the blues - while the odd blue that is a higher level than anything already in the same slot so can be infused into your favourite equipment is welcome, that is actually quite rare. Blues that drop at a lower level than anything else in the slot are entirely pointless and just fill up the equipment slots needlessly (and then the post master). I've no idea why they continue to bother with generating low level blues - it just irritates everyone!)

BUMP BUMP cause this shows some of what is wrong with Destiny... Opening text of this article. "In 2006, World of Warcraft’s Gates of Ahn'Qiraj event began. The end reward? Two new raids. To open it, players on every server had to restore a magic scepter, contribute hundreds of thousands of materials across both the Horde and Alliance, players completing numerous epic and hardcore questslines, a lengthy battle outside the Scarab Wall, and finally, one player on each server would get to take the scepter and ring the gong to open the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj. In 2006, around 7 million human beings played World of Warcraft, but only around 250—0.00003% of the player base, a rounding error at best—would receive the title of Scarab Lord, including Destiny’s current director, Luke Smith. Seven million other players wouldn’t get to feel that special, but Smith did. Which might be where Destiny’s problems begin. "

Edited by SwankyButters: 3/15/2020 9:25:23 PMOh by the way... Just turned on the "South Park" episode of "Make Love, Not Warcraft" and THIS is a perfect representation of Luke and his WOW buddies. "This man has no life..." Here is a sped up version of "Make Love, Not Warcraft" you can change the playback speed if you want to... Enjoy... This is Luke and Destiny in a nutshell. https://youtu.be/6hQkywhOhgU

1 ReplyLIke this bit in the second paragraph: ... a game that’s increasingly about being pressured to play, enforcing diverse play, rather than supporting players in playing the way they want. Specifically, I don't like how if you play every activity in the game you become better off. Its mostly visible with bright dust. If I play both Strikes and Crucible then I'll have more than just playing one of tehm. But I only want to play one, I don't like the other. So even though I'm willing to put just as much time in, I get less rewards. Same with quests, not so much in the current season but in the past (and with exotic quests) I have been made to play activities I don't like playing. The game should reward time spent playing the activites you enjoy playing, not reward someone who "dips their toes into everything Destiny has to offer" as they like to put it. Something tells me the player summit the other year reinforced this way of thinking.

Edited by SwankyButters: 3/15/2020 10:50:24 AM"Two years ago, something went wrong. Destiny’s writing team, led by the well-respected Bungie veteran Joe Staten, had been working on the game for several years. They’d put together what they called the ‘supercut’—a two-hour video comprising the game’s cinematics and major story beats. In July, they showed it to the studio’s leadership. That’s when things went off the rails, according to six people who worked on Destiny. --- They decided it was too campy and linear, sources say, and they quickly decided to scrap Staten’s version of the story and start from scratch." How much you want to bet Luke "Scrabble God" Smith was the lead "unhappy" in this attack of "too campy and linear." Luke Smith: Guys, am I wrong? This idea is crap...right? Team: I really like it... Luke Smith: You really like it, are you sure? Have you ever played WOW? Team: Oh, well when you put it that way, maybe you have a point. Luke Smith: I know I do... I was Scrabby Lord, only a few hundred people have ever made Scabby Lord and I am one of them, ok, I know what I'm talking about. Team: OK, whatever Luke says goes. https://kotaku.com/the-messy-true-story-behind-the-making-of-destiny-1737556731

Edited by zxionisus: 3/14/2020 6:11:43 PMThese statements from the article resonate with me: Bungie gave Destiny 2’s bounties a cost and added expiration dates, pressuring players to stick with the game or feel like they’re missing out. This new bounty system means players aren’t logging in to have fun, they’re logging in to remove stressors...When a game feels like it’s pressuring you to log in every day, requiring you to treat it like chores, it stops feeling fun. To fix Destiny, Bungie doesn’t just need to rethink its entire philosophy of negative reinforcement, it needs to make sure players actually feel like they’re getting something for their time.

3 RepliesAs I read that article it brought to mind this clip from The Simpsons that perfectly encapsulates Bungie and their management of this franchise .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbd4t-ua-WQ And then there is this one which demonstrated their attitude to the feedback from their own players .. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkJehlr1tEw I think Bungie are so deep into their own bubble they genuinely believe that they are totally right on everything and its our fault for not getting on board with the vision. I genuinely think the franchise is doomed, it cant go on like this. We need fresh talent at the top and for them to actually make the changes the player base want because soon there wont be the numbers left to make it viable.

Bump bump bump
-
Hits all the issues, well written. With Scarab lords ego I doubt anyone at Bungie will care, Destiny made an estimated 300 million in 2019. It would take another D2 year 1 exodus to get any attention
-
Gotta bump this.
-
Amazing article. It really hits the nail on the head with all the issues regarding the state of Destiny 2. It also blows my mind that a lot of this info is so bloody obvious, and yet Bungie continues to persist with their current direction.
-
Bump-da-wump because it’s all still true
-
This explains so much of the problem with Destiny and the reasons behind Luke’s bad decisions.

So true...

9 RepliesWhat a piece, this is what Bungie needs to hear. The article is exactly what needs to be said. Wow.
-
I read the article and couldn't stop saying YES! This is 100% what the biggest problem is with D2.
-
Good read. I have started playing less and see myself eventually moving on from the game for the reasons mentioned in the article. Will not be spending anymore money on this game.
-
Thanks for sharing 👍 a lot of valid points. I hope bungie will see this article and will consider to implement some of the points in the future. I love Destiny and have been playing since D1 vanilla but my interest getting lower after every season or DLC.
-
Great article that. Hits all the points lots of players are unhappy with .. just a pity it will never be taken notice of at Bungie.
