Here is the current meta breakdown for crucible as I have nothing to do right now but inform anyone who is interested in reading it. I’ve stopped playing PvE for the most part so I will not include anything about the PvE meta... Snipers and shotguns with 150 hand cannons on PC Fusion rifles and shotguns with 150 hand cannons on console Fusion and sniper works well on both but one works better on one and vice versa [b]Top tier shotguns:[/b] •Mindbenders which you can currently farm from the hollowed lair nightfall (2020.02.11 - 2020.02.17) •Dust rock blues which you can farm from the lost sector hive boss on mars or from menagerie •Lord of wolves exotic •(Rapid fire shotguns like perfect paradox and ikelos work well too if you go for 2 shot kills or even melee follow ups) A shotgun in the current meta is only as good as its perks and the 2 weapon perks aren’t as important as the barrel and mag perks. Look for full choke or rifled barrel and accurized rounds or assault mag preferably with a range masterwork. Pairing that with 2 great perks like slideshot, snapshot sights, and/or QuickDraw and you have yourself a “god roll” shotgun [b]Top tier snipers:[/b] •Beloved which you can farm in menagerie (also twilight oath from menagerie) •Revoker which is a crucible pinnacle quest reward •Apostate which you can farm in altar of sorrows on the moon (it only drops on certain days and rotates with I believe 2 other weapons) •Any sniper you are good with and enjoy using (the ones listed are “meta” but you can easily compete with a solid sniper. I find myself using the new monarchy sniper from Y1 with snapshot quite often because I am used to it, it’s void and I usually have a void kill bounty to complete [b]Fusion Rifles:[/b] •Erintil with firmly planted and/or backup plan and liquid coils and a scope is where it’s at. Crazy range OHK and a lot of people have been complaining about it because it is possible to OHK beyond 50m - easiest way to farm I believe is turning in mats to the gunsmith •Other high impact fusion rifles with same perks as listed above •Telesto exotic fusion rifle •Technically any fusion rifle with backup plan is going to compete well on console, they just won’t kill at the ranges a high impact with a scope will. [b]150 hand cannons:[/b] •spare rations which drops from gambit prime is currently king on PC and console. You can also farm from the reckoning but I believe your best chance of getting it to drop is depositing 50+ motes in a single gambit prime •Luna’s Howl and Not Forgotten which are both crucible pinnacle quests and basically the same gun. Luna’s has higher stability and is going to be the better option on console where as NF has more range and would be the ideal choice on PC •other 150 hand cannons still work well, but not as well as the 3 listed above. [b]Exotic hand cannons:[/b] •Thorn works great in the current meta and is obtained via an exotic quest •The Last Word works great in the current meta and is obtained through an exotic quest (personal favorite exotic hand cannon) •Sunshot apparently works great in the current meta, I haven’t used it since Y1 but I see it often •Crimson is another solid option in the current sandbox which performs like a pulse rifle (red death from D1?) [b]Sidearms:[/b] Sidearms have made a come back after a much needed buff this season. There are lots of great options so find one you enjoy with perks that work well for you and have at it. Devils ruin is a new exotic this season that is currently one of my favorite weapons [b]SMG:[/b] A couple SMG’s are worth noting, most work well but 2 in particular are Recluse which is a pinnacle quest reward from crucible and hero’s burden which is an iron banner drop. Exotics like risk runner and huckleberry are also really great options [b]Other weapons:[/b] Pulse rifles and scout rifles are currently in a sweet spot depending on the perks and your play style. Personally I have been using a lot of 150 scouts lately paired with a shotgun or sidearm and love how they play. High RPM 260 scout rifles have moved into the meta and are seeing a lot of love due to the new exotic symmetry and last seasons crucible ritual quest reward Randy’s throwing knife. Vigilance wing exotic pulse rifle still performs really well and remains one of my favorite primaries in the game but other pulse rifles work really well too depending on perks and play style. [i]honestly, a lot of people complain about the current meta which varies slightly from pc to console and you will see a lot of people running spare rations mindbenders, and you will see a lot of shadowshot hunters running invis and stompees. You will also see a lot of void walker warlocks running handheld super nova. There’s more warlocks on PC as it’s currently the most popular subclass for PC and more hunters on console as it’s the most popular there - beyond that the current meta feels pretty well balanced as far as primary vs primary (you can still compete with something other than a hand cannon where as previous meta’s where it felt impossible to not use the meta be it scouts the first half of Y1, pulses the second half, or hand cannons in Y2) and special vs special (there are a lot of different types of special users in every match from snipers, to shotgunners, & fusion riflers) but specials are favored currently and primaries don’t compete well against specials. This is due to anyone running a special weapon dropping special ammo when killed and an armor mod for boots called special ammo finder. It is possible to go a whole match using only special weapons and the best counter to special weapons currently is 150 hand cannons. Scouts against snipers sure, and sidearms/SMG’s against shotgunners yes, but 150 hand cannons are a little more universal and work well all around, against charging fusion rifles, rushing shotgunners, or even if you close the gap on a sniper.[/i] This is is not exactly a complete list but for anyone returning to the game or who doesn’t feel like google searching and reading article after article or watching YouTube video after YouTube video let alone trying to determine if what they read or watched is current this should point you in the right direction for season 9 crucible 👍
