This one is specifically about Rock. Anyone wanting to copy paste this and do another for other genres, have at it. I'm not qualified to do Pop, R&B, Rap, Metal, whatever for I do not listen to them.
In your opinion, in the world of rock music who is the:
Best?
Worst?
Most over rated?
Most under appreciated?
Mine:
Best?
Van Halen
They just encapsulated EVERYTHING it was to be 'rockstars'. I recall a interview with Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul on their favorite bands, and something Vinnie said made perfect sense to me about Van Halen. On stage, they were 'pure energy'. I thought that exemplified they're live show really well.
Worst?
So many to choose from, but for me, Pink Floyd
Most over rated?
Led Zeppelin
Most under appreciated?
Another long list of options, but I'd have to say Boston. So much innovation in sound. But I could make a list of others who also seem to be under rated or virtually forgotten.

3 RepliesEdited by cRaZyT101: 9/24/2019 4:11:29 PMI enjoy more Queen songs than anything. Though Boston is also another band that I really like to listen to. Edit: Floyd I like too but my answer is Queen. I can't stand the Beatles, but they're not rock. So I'll say the Doors for this topic. Overrated though I would say Led Zeppelin, I only enjoy like two of their songs. Edit 2: Skynyrd is a close second on overrated imo.

Best? I have tons of favorite groups, but I’ll have to say Rush this time. I know they weren’t the most popular band, but their entire discography just oozes pure talent and craftsmanship. Check out YYZ for an example of why I adore their music: https://youtu.be/ScaPlYMgwTU Worst? Definitely The Doors. Morrison is one of the blandest musicians I’ve ever seen. His voice is unremarkable, his writing is uninspired, and the only reason they were remotely popular as a band is because he screamed “FIAAAAAAAH” on the Ed Sullivan Show. Most over rated? I’m gonna get some hate from this, but my choice is Bon Jovi. They’re actually a pretty good group with some solid hits, but they weren’t the absolute epitome of 80s hair metal. All they truly accomplished was stealing the spotlight from bands like Scorpions, Def Leppard, Ratt, and pre-black album Metallica. Most under appreciated? The White Stripes never got enough credit for what they did. When grunge was getting stale, they reinvented modern rock and roll by bringing it back to its most basic roots. They were just 2 people with a guitar and a drum set, but they created a sound and a style that changed the game in the early 2000s.

10 RepliesMe thinks the person who thinks Pink Floyd is the worst rock band ever, and that Led Zeppelin is the most overrated, should refrain from making posts about rock.
-
3 RepliesBest: Led Zeppelin Worst: The Cranberries Most overrated: Van Hagar (you know exactly what I’m talking about) Most Underrated: The Strokes or The Black Keys

2 RepliesBump for later

Led zeppelin is not overrated

9 RepliesBest: Led Zeppelin You literally cannot beat these guys. Worst: Beatles Pop stars. not rock stars, yet people tell me that they are the best rock group. Most Overrated: Queen They have some good stuff, but most of their best is less rock, more pop Most Under Appreciated: The Police. I love this band. I grew up to the police. Sting, great vocals, great artistic direction Andy Summers, great guitar player Stewart Copeland on the drums is a clear win.

Best: matalica Worst: queen Over rated: Beatles Under rated: dunno

5 RepliesIf this is purely opinion based and not meant to be an actual discussion on musicianship, influence, etc. then... Best: Acid Bath (I’m cheating. This is metal. But they’re my favorite band so I’d feel dirty listing anyone else) Worst: I don’t have time to list every Hair Band. Just name one and the answer will be “yes”. Dark time in rock music as far as I’m concerned. And though I don’t dislike Van Halen.. I do blame their success for the Hair Band boom. Most Overrated: The Beatles - Tool Underrated: Deftones - The Clash

10 RepliesPink Floyd Def Leppard Van Halen The Doors

1 ReplyI’d have to agree with most of this list, other than the overrated one. For me, that’d be Bon Jovi. Sure you’ve got songs like Wanted Dead or Alive that are absolutely incredible, but the majority of them are like Living On a Prayer (an overrated song imo).
The Veggie has spooketh
2 Replies-Best? Zeppelin. While Atlantic still ran distro for Swan Song, Zepp had the balls to let their original contract with Atlantic expire. At which point Jimmy Page formed Swan Song and went on to sign Bad Company. Runner Up: Sabbath. One of the godfathers of heavy metal. Worst? The Rolling Stones. -Most over rated? The Rolling Stones. Most under appreciated? E.L.O. Runners Up: Rush.

3 RepliesEdited by Upperclass Bum: 9/24/2019 6:08:41 PMRush Rush The Black Keys (originally, I put Led Zeppelin, but after seeing someone put TBK in the underrated spot, I had to change. TBK are a duo of pretentious, insipid losers who wouldn't know what originality was even if they looked it up. It's amazing that people give Greta Van Fleet or whatever the -blam!- shit for sounding like Zep, but are probably the same people who praise TBK despite them sounding like literally every band of the era whose coattails they're riding...) Uh, Meat Loaf, I guess

Edited by Ghostmime: 9/25/2019 9:42:52 AM
In your opinion, in the world of rock music who is the: Best?
The Strokes, purely for the album Is This It?, one of the best albums I've heard, not just in rock but overall.
Worst?
First thought was Halestorm. She is a very talented singer, but the lyrics and instrumentals are just so uninspired and, frankly, bad. I used to like some of their tracks, but that was when I was a teenager who didn't know anything about music, which speaks volumes, really.
Most over rated?
Queen. Put down the pitchforks. Some of their singles are great. Bohemian Rhapsody is a classic, and We Will Rock You and Another one Bites the Dust are excellent songs. But the rest is either filler or just flat out bad.
Most under appreciated?
Do The National count as rock? If so, them. Trouble Will Find Me is one of my favourite albums, and their other albums are also great. They need more appreciation. Edit: fixed my formatting.
