By the title I don't mean are you using religion or anything like that while you play. I'm not even really sure that "moral" was the right choice for this, but maybe more of a "self imposed" code.
What I mean is, are there things in games that you just simply will not do, weapons you will not use, combos that you never touch, anything like that because you see those things as "cheap" or cheating?
If so, have you ever crossed that line in the sand you made and started doing or using said "cheap" tactics, weapons, combos, and the like?
Example: I play World of Tanks a lot anymore. In it there are some tanks that are clearly known to be over powered, and it could even be said are unfair to use for they are so overwhelmingly better in their respective tiers. A couple of these tanks in particular or tanks lines even I would staunchly never play because I felt that they were unfair and the people that used them were blatantly bullying everyone else in the game with them. To a certain extent, that part is true, and some of these tanks are that much more potent than their competition.
Well, I despised artillery in particular. They sit at the back of the map, unseen, untouchable, and rain hell upon all whom they can. They change the way the mostly horizontal battle of the game is played. You never know if you're targeted by one.
After about 3 years of playing and hating the sky demons, I got fed up and decided to get one of the most hated and known in game purchase artillery tanks to do my best to get even.
In short, it turned out that by using it and finally starting my own line of artillery tanks, it made me better in my other tanks against them. I knew better of where they could hit me on most maps, and where they couldn't. So all in all I was hurting myself by hating them and not learning them.
There are a couple of other similar situations in that game, but more or less the same outcome.
I've found the same type of instances in other games I've played. Some of which I still have not broken my stance on.
Have you any gaming experiences where you won't do or use something?
Are you still playing under the same mindset?

Edited by OldboyVicious: 4/13/2019 3:44:56 AMIf it's in the game, I'll use it. If it's a cheat or exploit, I'll never use it against another player. For example, in RDR2, I glitched online like crazy to level up and make money for my character. I got pretty high level really fast. (Killing NPC cops underneath the docks, out of the map in St. Denis) I also have less than 10 player kills, because knowing that I cheated, even though there are no level advantages or anything, I do have access to purchase better ammo, better guns, better horses, etc. The player kills I do have are from friends when we were messing around and doing the headless glitch and a few other things, like getting the belt buckle for a bow and arrow kill from really far away. So even when someone griefs me I send them a message asking them to stop. But also, I dont like the PvP in that game, and generally I don't like messing with other players or interfering with what others want to do.

5 RepliesYes, and yes. Biggest example, dust rock Luna’s in D2. I have Luna’s, but never use it because it’s not overly fun to stomp on people with easier, better guns

Nope.

Dont tag-jack in Kill Confirmed. I mean, me and my buddies would share tags if we knew someone was close to a streak, but other than that I wont steal other peoples tags, thats just poor form.

2 RepliesTroll and sabotage other players and ruin their fun unless it can affect you negatively.

In some multiplayer games, I tend to use unorthodox and impractical methods to dispatch my foes and steer clear of meta if I find it to be cheap and cowardly.

I don’t kill anyone unnecessary in games like Fallout and Skyrim. I have no clue why, because I can technically kill people I’ll never see again without any consequences but I guess I have a soft spot for settlers...

1 ReplyI mercilessly murdered the marines but always tried keeping the Elites alive in Halo 2 and 3.

6 RepliesSky-cancer sucks but I did develope the American arty line because I have been killed by them the most so I figured they are the best arty next to the Germans who kill me quite often as well. Tier 9 Conqueror is my most played tank as well as one of the only tanks I've come close to 3 marking while not loading more than half gold ammo, I run 21 AP, 9 APCR and 5 HESH and always do 3-4k even against 10s. Back in the Halo 2 days I never touched noob combos, I preferred sniper or BR anyday. Hard-aimers and Lancer users in the Gears series are noobs/losers in my eyes as well, if you can't garner a kill without aiming down sight in CQC I am going to make it the whole point of the match to single your ass out. I also despise players in Forza who run with ABS, Stability, and any other assist. Especially because they tend to be the players with no racing etiquette such as proper spacing, giving the pass and backing off during and or after a turn. If your going to ram somebody during a turn go play GTA like a -blam!-ing kid.

1 ReplyEdited by Psyntifik: 4/10/2019 5:45:32 PMIronically, I feel that playing by any kind of code of honor is being dishonest. The environment I played any kind of competitive gaming in has always had the attitude that everything is permitted. Making a fuss about grabs or certain tactics would get you laughed out of the arcade where I used to go. It's on your opponent to overcome a challenge, not on you to gimp your gameplay to make it easier for them. And I can certainly tell you that in tournaments I pulled out every trick in the book. Shit people don't think of unless they attend (such as listening to your opponents button presses). The amount of whiny bitches when For Honor came out astounded me.

No spamming moves, no unpausing, no killing enemies who don't fight back... (I've literally had over watch matches where a guy just sits there and waves, I wave back and leave him at like 1hp

I don't have a code that I follow, no guideline. I have a normal set that I use, and adapt to what I need to pull ahead. All tricks are used, unless its outright using outside forces to win. Glitches are acceptable, unless they make things too easy. Take the Dart from BF3- one shot kill weapon with a very long range and easy to use. Players who used it were pathetic to me.

5 RepliesFor single player games, no. In co-op, I generally stick to methods the developers (or modders) intended. So I generally avoid cheats or exploits. As for PvP, I have a code of honor, chivalry if you will. 1. Thou shall not cheateth or exploiteth 2. Thou shall not tea-bageth, shit-talketh, or hate-maileth thy enemy. 3. Thou shall not engulfeth thyself with sodium chloride 4. Thou shall not give thy media reason to blameth thou for thy shootings 5. Thou shall not yeeteth thy controller across thou mother’s basement
-
Oh yes. I don’t touch shotguns very much at all in this game.
-
Yeah, I do. It was more of a needed thing back when anyone could grab the loot and ammo that dropped. On the rare instances when I play PvP anymore, I am not a meta user, unless it is a gun I was using before it became meta, but if the other team is using it and wrecking me & I can't figure out an effective counter, I will switch to it, but nothing beats the feeling of pub stomping someone using the cheapest feeling weapons.

I play by honor code in dark souls. All dark souls players know these unspoken rules.
