I'm getting back into reading so I bought a few books off Amazon. I've started with the complete fiction of hp lovecraft. A fascinating read once you can understand his wording.
I've also purchased meditations by Marcus aurelius, the Roman emperor who embraced the philosophy of stoicism.
Finally, I got dune by Frank Herbert. Mainly cos I'm so excited for the film but also it's lauded as the greatest piece of science fiction of all time.
What are you all reading?

7 RepliesI’ve started re reading the Wheel of Time series; this will be my third time through. These are my all time favourite books. As for Dune, I haven’t read that in a long long time. I suppose I should also read it again before the movies comes out.

Check out Eric R. Asher and his Vesick series, damned good series, but it always makes me crave beef jerky and fudge......

Edited by diakopoi: 3/8/2019 8:50:52 PMThe Eye of the Golem book series, by Jonathan someone. I read it a few years ago and is a cool take on fantasy. It’s like Harry Potter but with a different world, but the same elements. Just know that (I’m pretty sure) it’s the second book in the series of four, so look for the first book before the second (obviously). Ooh it also has Djinn (spelling?) and lesser spirits and stuff, so not really traditional fantasy magic. Also, the Subtle Knife series. Again, this is the second book in this time a trilogy I think and I read it the same year I read the Eye of the Golem series, so not much info, so get the first one first. It’s another fantasy book, and has a lot of really cool elements within it that could honestly make a really good video game. I cannot remember the authors name unfortunately. Third, the Giver series of books, by Lois Lowry (I might’ve spelled Lois wrong). This time it’s a sci-fi genre series, and it doesn’t really explain the story, but that’s why it’s pretty good, cause you have to figure it out by yourself, and each time you complete a book you can piece together more. Fourth, the Eragon series. This time I don’t even know if that’s the correct name of the entire series or the name of the first book, but whatever. It’s another fantasy story, but this time it’s more original fantasy, with dragons and elves and all that. But it’s still really good IMO. Finally, basically any Neal Shusterman book. All the ones I’ve read are really good. I can recommend Scythe+Thunderhead, Dry, and that’s all I can remember but I might add more because I’ve definitely read more than that. There’s also this dumbass series that my friend reads, it’s got 70+ titles by multiple different authors. Any series like that is bound to be lower quality.

2 RepliesContemplating reading the Kingkiller Chronicles again, but it hurts my heart to do it. I recently finished reading some Discworld books, two of the Mistborn series and Speaker for the Dead.

3 RepliesReading Halo: New Blood. Really good so far.

Pretty much anything by Brandon Sanderson or similar novels are what I’ve been reading recently. Those big fantasy worlds with interesting characters and magic are always up my alley.

I just finished The Agony and The Ecstasy, about the life of the artist Michelangelo. All time favorite is the The Once and Future King. If you like Dune, try The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, The Unbeliever. Just found out the author published 4 more books in the series after a 21 year hiatus, total in the series is now ten books.

3 RepliesStory of Your Life. It’s about a bunch of alien “heptapods” trying to communicate with humanity through these looking glasses and humanity’s attempts to understand their language, which is not phonetically related to their speech and quite complex. SPOILERS! Turns out the language actually predicts the future.

Taking my time with a Christian book titled “Transformed” rn. After that, I’ll read the books for a game franchise remembered for its fanbase.

No
but I’ve read a good one called “The Way Of Kings”
4 RepliesTrying to get back into reading, myself. I've always been fussy with what books I like, so as my way of breaking back in, I decided to reread 1984. It's still great!

2 RepliesI’m going through H.PLovecraft, as well! Fantastic stories, for sure. Also going through both Kirkman’s Invincible and Ultimate Spider-Man. Some of, if not the best comics I’ve ever read.

2 RepliesIf you want good sci-fi, I recommend The Diamond Age by Stephenson. It's got floating islands, princesses, guns inside peoples' skulls, talking books! You'd like it.

1 ReplyI just read Astrophysics for People in Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson this weekend. As someone who usually gets tired of reading really easily, I was never tired of reading this book. If you just want to know some really awesome things about the universe, this book is a good way to do it.

2 RepliesI’ve still got to finish At the Mountains of Madness. To anyone who’s read it, does it get any better later on? So far it just feels like description, after description, and it’s kinda boring to read. : /

I was on a Tom Clancy kick for a while but I've gone back to one of my favorite authors in Neil Gaiman with a book I haven't read yet - Neverwhere. Pretty good so far.
