Last Wish Riven 'Cheese' Ruins Experience

Okay, so hear me out. Last Wish is a super mechanical raid that's definitely not for everyone, first of all. Just because it's top-tier difficulty though doesn't mean it's okay to cheat or subvert mechanics. The 'cluster bomb' strategy to defeat Riven without doing ANY of her mechanics is just a new way the lazy Destiny Community is ruining the experience of raiders all around. What if we really enjoy mechanics? It's nigh impossible to find anyone in the LFG or even within your own clan who is willing to run Riven the legitimate natural way with all of the mechanics. Simply because a stupidly simple way to defeat her exists, all legitimacy is thrown out the window. Why should lazy raiders be rewarded for little to no effort for something the rest of us work hard for? Why does such a method to defeat her even exist? Why is her damage pool so low that a team could skip over all of her mechanics? It cheapens the feel of the experience for sure. The issue with this method is that now it's been discovered, nobody is interested in teaching the legitimate way. How messed up is it when I can't even get my first completion because nobody wants to run it 'legitimately'? Raids are end-game activities designed to test the mettle of the bravest players. They should not be reduced to a 'cheese' or 'cheats'. If you want that high-tier content then you should have to work for it. Even if people still found a way to skip mechanics, should literally the entire community have to suffer for the laziness of a few? I know there's no easy fix to this issue. I know that some will argue that some players are just 'too good' and just have 'too much damage' to be required to perform the mechanics to Riven. What I suggest then, is to put some form of a barrier between those who fail to perform mechanics and the loot at the end. We all know how the raid challenges monitor for certain objectives to be completed. Why then can we not implement a simple tracker at Riven that will lock players out of loot and the end-of-raid chests if they do not complete the mechanics? The tracker can check for something like time spent in the encounter, or perhaps on how many plates were cleansed or how many eyes were shot during damage phases. Even better yet, the tracker could simply check for whether or not you cleared the debuff from yourself on a plate. The debuff won't appear unless you're running it legitimately, and it doesn't force players to go out of their way to get their loot -- just complete the raid legitimately. I don't know if anyone will care about the complaints of a lone raider, but I'm going to say my piece anyway. Riven's 'cheese' is toxic and a detriment to the raiding community as a whole, forcing new players to essentially learn a cheat and skip over ever learning the mechanics. What happens if the cheese gets patched out like the ones in Leviathan? A huge portion of Last Wish raiders will no longer know how to complete Riven. My opinion is that something needs to be done quickly before this problem festers too much longer. On one final note, I absolutely love the intensity and complexity of the mechanics behind the Riven encounter. It's a beautiful penultimate encounter to an equally beautiful raid. Bungie's design team and planning staff are at their peak with this raid.

  • It's easy for someone to say "find a group for no cheese". But the infection is much deeper than that. The fact is that it's actually very hard to find a group for a legit run. As an example... Last night I defeated riven for the first time as intended. It was immensely satisfying. In stark contrast when I defeated riven before with the cheese method, it was immensely unsatisfying. Riven of a Thousand voices is a beautiful raid encounter and it saddens me to see a vast majority of LFG players simply want to skip it. The desire to cheese riven is so widespread, it took very long to find a group of players willing to try riven the intended way. The riven cheese dampens my enjoyment of the game by limiting the playerbase willing to play the content I enjoy and that Bungie worked so hard to create. Please fix the Riven Cheese!

  • Bungie doesnt consider this a cheese. Because they also allow prime engram farming and glitching into the raid before it came out. And even award a team that did that with world's first...

  • So being able to put out maximum DPS is now considered a cheese ? Just curious if you think being able to one phase the boss at the end of the Leviathan is now also considered a cheese ? You goi into that fight with all Hunters with Nighthawk equipped you can killed him instantly ,same with the team that has all sleepers . So by your definition that would be considered a cheese because they’re skipping the rest the mechanics. At the end of the day it’s called maximizing your DPS. Nobody is pushing anybody off any damn cliff, nobody is pulling a cord so the boss stays stationary. What you have are Guardians that figured out how to maximize their DPS put out, that is not a cheese.

    • Why you so mad, it still requires coordination and everyone to be 581+ because of the damage cap plus who gives a shit about the riven mechanics when you have the -blam!-ing vault
