This is pretty late (also I don’t know exactly if this would count as lore but whatever), but I wanted to see how many people actually know the meaning behind the name of the Almighty mission.
So I’ve been in an astronomy class at college since the end of August, and early on, we talked about some units of distance in space, and what stuck out to me was 1 AU- aka 1 Astronomical Unit- aka the distance between the Earth and the Sun. The Almighty is next to the Sun, so...yeah, pretty interesting to learn about. Nice attention to detail on Bungie’s part.
Edit: I don’t know why there suddenly a bunch of unrelated posts suddenly popping up. All I was doing was pointing out some interesting little detail I discovered...

Everyone trying to be overly clever by going “well if it was 1AU you’d be in the sun” or “shouldn’t it be less than 1AU as we don’t actually go to the sun”..... well done you’re officially a -blam!- that reads too much INTO A MISSION NAME on a game where you can throw flaming hammers at aliens.....

33 RepliesIn my opinion, astronomy should be a mandatory subject for children from the age of 5 upwards. Far more important than other subjects we are forced to learn at that stage, in the UK anyways
looking at you religious education
Now this I didn’t know.
might have to bring back culturepost and do an astronomy based one hmmmm...🤔
2 RepliesToo bad It doesn't make up for the horrible name "Almighty".

Quick he stated something smart, bump him!

3 RepliesSoo, it is wrongly named? if 1 AU is earth-sun distance thwn it should be someting like 0.01 AU? Not exactly attention to details :-D #NERF the distance Bungie!!!

1 ReplyI'm glad that middle school astronomy is sticking out to you now that you're in college
-
Knew of the term since I was like 7, and my reaction was the opposite - that B was trying to sound all "sciency" and shit without actual science - because by definition, traveling coreward 1 AU makes you part of the corona and shit. :P

6 RepliesI just wish we got to go to the Almighty some more.

My friend thought it was 1 Gold and I had to hit him with the science.

1 Edge 4U? That would make a Lot! of sense you know?...

4 RepliesIt’s cool but the almighty is closer to the Sun than the Earth is so it should be “<1 AU”, right?

1 astronomical unit

I knew that

YOU. Your post. And others like you are what still gives me faith in the community. Thank you

4 Replies1 Astronomical Unit. It's the distance of the sun from the earth. 1AU. Given that the mission is about the sun, it makes sense

noticed the use of Astronomical units when i was doing some research on deimos, instantly thought of the mission. its all in the details
