U.S.-born American citizen in country legally charged in teen's death
Had to smile when I read this headline. Somebody at the City Pages newspaper has a sense of humour. It’s a nice parody of the way the media frames these issues I think. Particularly appropriate considering the amount of “immigrants are criminals” posts we get in #OffTopic.

If you’re an immigrant, you’re a legal citizen, I applaud that. If you’re here illegally, you have broken the law and are liable for deportation. The issue we have is when people, WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE, commit crimes which would not have happened had they been deported or the border secured.

I want to take a moment and say that yes, I found the title hilarious, but I have a very dark sense of humor. What I do not like, is how the author is is spitting on the memory of that poor girl, Molly or Mollie, by making this political. Wait, don't get upset yet. I also think the other side is just as disgusting for using her death to attack illegal immigration. That girl, Mollie, that boy, Kyle, what they went through was bad enough, the fear, the pain, that is not right. Then what the parents and family members are going through, the fear, the pain, the blame they are putting on themselves, the could of/should of's. I guarantee that the parents are imagining every worst case scenario that happened to their kid. We need to feel some empathy for them and give them the space to grieve without turning it into a rallying cry. It does not matter if you are legal or illegal, a killer is a killer and their names should not be spoken, unless they are being hunted by the police. After they are caught, they need to be forgotten and their names should never be seen or heard from any media outlet.
