Tittle.
I'm not a feminist, but I do make both male and female characters because....why not.
Lol it's always some teen asking why I'm using a female character. We have irl circuses walking around in the actual world identifying as....air or furniture, but it is extremely strange to see a straight male play as a female character?
Note: I have two female guardians in both d1 and D2 (one of them is my girlfriends).
Edit: let me clarify a bit more. In most of the video games (bop3, gta, ghost recon wildlands, ME A, etc) I have at least one female character. Idk it's just something different, sue me. I do like seeing a females kick ass sometimes. Weather it me playing the game or my gf.
Edit: fixed the tittle...smh

Hm well in third person games and depending on preference, would you rather see a guys ass 24/7 or a females? Female characters sometimes have smaller hitboxes too.
-
Better question is why in 2018 are people still getting triggered/salty by people using characters of the opposite gender.
-
Play whichever you want but if you’re a girl in the game, I’m gonna call you a her.

2 RepliesGenerally (half the games) i pick a female cause games go to far on making males these buff guys that they look unappealing to play as, females tend to be smaller and a more acceptable size. There's also the voice acting that I take into consideration. When I played mass effect 1-3, I picked femshep (Jennifer hale) over makeshep (mark meet) cause I absolutely couldn't stand meets voice. It happens in a few games where I just can't go with some dudes voice cause it sounds so boring.

1 ReplyNot strange. But when I'm playing alongside someone who's playing a female character.. and then I hear a super deep masculine voice.. catches me off guard sometimes.
-
2 RepliesI don’t see this as an issue and haven’t had it come up much in my gaming. I prefer playing as female characters if I’m given one choice. Destiny my characters are themed from my writing. My main is a female and the other two are male. Femshep started the trend when she had significantly better voice acting than her male counterpart. Saints Row kind of cemented it- Laura Bailey is the absolute best.

I would consider it strange if I did not recognise others approach games differently than I do. I always try to immerse myself into the game. One of my methods to achieve immersion is to customise a character to share similar physical features with my self. In my case, this would be male sex, blue eyes, pale skin, red hair, and a full red beard. It's always slightly disappointing when adult human characters lack red hair and/or beard options. For myself, playing as a female character breaks that sense of immersion.

I honestly don't really care, but I'll also say it is still weird. Not in a bad sense. And then there are those that play Skyrim or other games as females just to look at themselves from time to time. That is unarguably weird. There are some depraved people out there.

3 RepliesEdited by albinomachina: 3/7/2018 9:09:58 PMThe only game I refuse to make a female character in is Halo. Cause being a Spartan is man's work. Other than that I don't care. It actually makes me mad when I don't have the option to customize my character however I see fit. edit - I think every game, with a few exceptions like Kingdom Come: Deliverance, should let you pick your own sex.
-
Depends on the game. If it's an already established character, e.g. Lara Croft or Princess Zelda, that's fine. If it's a game where your character is an extension of you, e.g. Dark Souls, it's weird.
-
It means they don't get laid much so the female character is their virtual companion filling the void inside their hearts

2 RepliesI would say many find it odd mainly because the majority of people wouldnt naturally do it for one particular reason, it doesnt really feel right. In games like destiny, skyrim, etc, you build your own character, and in doing so you create a connection with that character. Most people would find it a lot easier to see a character as an extension of themselves if it is at least the same gender as them. So when they see a male playing as a female it seems odd since they are thinking that your character is an extension of you (your characters face is your face to them). Essentially it is a strange disconnect. Think of it this way, people dressing in drag is accepted in this day and age for the most part, but that doesnt make it any less odd to see for the vast majority of people. It is a strange disconnect that most people just arent going to understand, and honestly that is ok. No one expects everyone to completely understand everyone else.

Edited by Pyrus: 3/5/2018 10:43:09 PMNot really weird. If it's a create-your-own-character game, then I would play as a male. If I'm playing a game that has a female character that matches my personal playstyle, then I would play as a female. There's nothing wrong playing as the opposite gender!

2 RepliesIt's not. Topic end.

1 ReplyAs a bloke,i like looking at women,thats why i main women

8 RepliesI know some who find it weird, some who outright refuse to be anything else but their own gender. For me, I’ll pick a female character when it’s a game like Overwatch or if the game is in 3rd person, I don’t need to stair at a guy’s ass all the time in a game. If it’s like Destiny, sometimes it’s just nice to switch it up

"Oh look, why are we still doing x when we are in this arbitrary point in time." Because people are fickle creatures, and they do as they will. Why so many struggle to grasp this is beyond me.
-
For me it's pretty simple, I pick what I like. I prefer to stick to my gender but I have no problem playing as characters of a different gender if I like the character and/or class.
-
I don't view the character as an extension of myself, so I have no problem playing as either gender.
-
it kinda depends on the situation for me. if it's set characters like a female protagonist or female unlockable character, i have no problem with it. the only time i'll make a female character is if it's a single player game, because one time a kid try hitting on me on ESO, then lost it when i said i was a dude
-
2 RepliesDiversity (destiny), better voice actress(mass effect), fits the rpg element better sometimes (opinion)(dragon age inquisition), etc. Depends on the situation. If you play a female cuz you think they're hot, you're probably a neckbeard or a white knighter. Stahp.
-
I just play one every now and then to mix it up. I can’t even stress how incredibly bland it gets playing like 90% of RPG’s with the basic default boi
-
Because they think its a girl then they get hard ons then realize its not a girl then they cry
-
It is just silly that some people care that much over these choices. I play as a pink fairy girl in paladins all the time. Does that mean in attracted to that? No. Does that mean I identify as a pink fairy girl? No. It's just a character. I don't care one bit about anyone's choice in character.
-
4 RepliesI only find it weird when said male strips their female character down to a bikini. Like, really? I’ve played as my fair share of male, and female characters, and making them a sex object in either case not only makes it uncomfortable to play a game in the same room as you, but is also just kinda pitiful.

The irony is they usually accuse you of being sexually confused. The thing is, its not me getting hot under the collar over a bunch of pixels.
