What happened to strikes?

May I rephrase this into a more concise post, after reconsidering some of my points: Destiny 1 strikes were enjoyable (at least to me). I spent hours in the Vanguard playlists. Strikes originally came in the form of harder missions throughout the campaign that required a fireteam to beat and featured a boss at the end. Nightfalls were very difficult endgame activities which required great patience, skill and a good fireteam and rewarded you appropriately. In Destiny 2, I don't enjoy what has become of what used to be my favourite activities. Let me explain: [b]The Nightfall[/b] - My greatest concern with the nightfall is this new timer. It's a load of rubbish. In this current Inverted Spire Nightfall, the best strategy is to run about or run round in circles and only kill what you have to in order to get to the rings. The nightfall in Destiny 1 took a long time to complete, and now Bungie are forcing you to skip parts of it to keep up with the timer. - You can all die. It's fine; just wait to respawn. You don't get sent back to orbit, however because of the timer, obviously it's better to make us wait 20 seconds to respawn rather than go back to orbit for cocking up. [b]Strikes[/b] - They are useless. The strike playlist is now at 140 power, with a required power level of 12. The loot you get caps at 265. - No more opening dialogue? The story is (vaguely) told throughout, but I miss that opening dialogue which gave a brief overview of what on earth you were doing before you even spawned. - Loot. No strike-specific loot, which was a reason to stay in the vanguard playlists in D1. Now, what's the point in the playlist when there isn't any strike specific loot. - Exodus Crash. In my opinion this strike is so bloody bad that it deserves a separate point. The boss is arguable amongst the worst designs since D1's launch, taking the form of a giant Vandal who you can damage for 10 seconds before he disappears and then re-appears again a few seconds later. There are awkward moments when your fireteam just stand still, wondering what to do whilst the boss has disappeared. It ruins the 'epic' boss fight. - Sarathun's Song, the boss is another bullet sponge. In fact, Exodus and Sarathun are both examples of what NOT to do with strikes, and are a step backwards on the improved strikes that we got in TTK. - Very bias rotation, it's not fun to rotate between two strikes in an hour. - There aren't that many strikes.

  • I definitely thought there would be much more lore this time around. Instead, there is almost none. Ghost just kinda seems like he doesn't know who Fallen, Vex, or the Taken are anymore. People who are just starting Destiny are gonna be bored and lost pretty quick...

  • Requesting a "Matchmaking on/off" feature for Strikes. Beating undying mind alone felt amazing and I actually felt like an honest to god guardian at the end.

      • It's funny how Destiny 1 is actually the superior game now. The only thing it EVER needed was a boost in the amount of content available to the player and a cohesive story. Everything else about Destiny 2 has been a huge step backwards.

        • Exotics dropping from public events killed strikes. I can run 4 events in the time to do one strike. Why would i? Plus, did the raid chase everyone off? Doing a lot of solo public events recently.

          • I loved playing strikes in D1. Now with D2 I can't even force myself to play them. They're so boring and the rewards are trash. The coin system is beyond annoying turning all the vendors in to Vegas slot machines was a horrible idea. Why not make the gear cost a good amount of these coins then we could buy the pieces that we want. No Bungie can't resist making everything RNG. Even the planetary materials and chests are RNG. I'll open a chest or try to pick up a material and it won't work. What the heck Bungie.

            • Bump, destiny, or shitstiny 0.9 fun factor is gone, the entire pve experience has been neutered, as a pve player there's no possible way I'll get 4,000 hours into bungies latest piece of shit destiny 2, I hope your e sport takes of bungo bc you've pissed off so many of your loyal pve players I doubt many will stick it out.

            • What happened to vendors selling stuff? That alone did extend gameplay by going for what you wanted. What's the point of glimmer if they're nothing to spend it on? Other than mods, shaders, and infusion...glimmer is basically pointless! Why have 1 time use shaders? Grinding in an RNG doesn't guarantee the shaders we want! Why is Eververse so heavily reliant for ghosts, ships, sparrows, emotes, and shaders? -blam!- microtransactions! We already paid for the game, why should we give you any more money?! Why is there an anti-farming lock? The whole core of the game is farming for loot! A 5min timer is WAY too big of a cooldown and punishment! Where is the massive list of things we were supposed to be overwhelmed by? Promised us there would be a lot to do but after the campaign, there's not really much to do other than randomized strikes, a menacing nightfall, and rehashed content from D1! Bungie...Y U NO FUN!? [spoiler]inb4 Bungie's like "We are fun"[/spoiler] I bought D2 expecting an improvement but all I'm seeing is a step in a direction I want nothing to do with. If this is Destiny's future, I will not bother with D3!

              • You're ranting a bit but strikes need to be more of the end game too. There should be higher drops then the vendors.

              • "Very bias rotation, it's not fun to rotate between two strikes in an hour." This. So much. My copy of the game seems to believe that lake of shadows, arms dealer and pyramidion are the only strikes in the game.

                Strikes are a mess. - Thaviks, The Depraved, is a HORRIBLE boss fight. It isn't fun to DPS a boss for 5 seconds to have them disappear, ten times in a row. There's no strategy here, it's just tedious. The entire strike is tedious. Nobody enjoys going through the arc checkpoints. - The loot is appalling for the amount of time put into a Strike. Strikes are 10-15 minute activities. The rewards you get do not match the time/effort required. Public events are more free, more fun, take up less time AND give better rewards. Unless you're after Vanguard Rep, there's no reason to run Strikes at all. - Where have the medals/modifiers gone? Why were these removed even though they were seen as a welcomed addition to Destiny 1? Why take away something that people enjoyed? It makes no sense. Strikes as a whole feel like an afterthought. - Random rotation is horrible. I've played every Strike once, besides Thaviks and the Spire, those two CONSTANTLY show up in rotation. Strikes should have fixed rotations, or a much requested feature - VOTE for which Strike to do next. This should've been implemented from the get-go. As a whole, I actually love what they've done to the Strikes. They feel a lot more involved now, they're actually quite fun to do (with the exception of Thaviks). But the rewards aren't worth it. There are no modifiers or awards to promote good play and promote competitiveness amongst teammates. They could've done a lot with Strikes, it's a shame they didn't follow through.

                • It's not worth playing at all except for the occasional and I do mean occasional exotic drop. I mean why waste your time for gear almost 10 below your current light. And yes you get faction coins but again faction rewards are up to 10 below current level. Basically only way to level up is exotics and doing what ever is in the powerful gear quest. Don't like this system at all.

                • lack of higher level strike playlists is annoying, i hate having to wait for 3 engrams weekly that sucks if i want to play destiny more then it doesnt matter because i already leveled as much as im allowed to this week so dumb

                • I dont feel like grinding strikes simply because weapons have fixed rolls. I played the hell outta strikes in D1 tho.

                • Agreed! Nightfall is not fun at all; not like it was in D1. strikes... I also spent hours in D1 just doing strike playlist but in D2 I spent my time in patrols doing public events. The RNG benefits are in the wrong places!

                  • I don't mind the timer, but there should [b]never[/b] be a time where there isn't a way to add time. During a boss fight, throw some rings up, throw some anomalies up. That is a major issue.

                  • I actually found the time limit very interesting. You learn how to make the modifiers work in your favor in conjunction with specific team call outs and placement. My only suggestion would be to increase it to 15 mins starting time but keep the rings the same. Apart from this weeks cheese method for the NF I will stick with doing it legit. Btw how doesn't Teather stop him from teleporting anyways??

                    • D1 nightfalls hard and challenging? After like 2 days of grinding light lvl I was able to solo the nightfall on all three characters every week ... must either be ridiculously bad and or never played D1 🤷🏼‍♂️

                      • Strikes get robbed on the weekly milestones too. Dance in the crucible for 10 matches - have some powerful gear. Run some flashpoint events for 30 mins - have some powerful gear Do strikes for an hour - have some rep to get low level gear :'(
