-College graduates with a bachelor’s degree typically earn 66 percent more than those with only a high school diploma; and are also far less likely to face unemployment.
-Over the course of a lifetime, the average worker with a bachelor’s degree will earn approximately $1 million more than a worker without a postsecondary education.
-By 2020, an estimated two-thirds of job openings will require postsecondary education or training.
These are proven facts with mountains of research and statistics.
So, then why does the Right seem to think that college is "liberal brainwashing?" Or, "it churns out communists."
The only people that seem to bash college are either those that have never been or those that were paid to say so. Even those that have had success with a college education (many Right leaning politicians) seem to bash colleges.
Education is the foundation of society. The fact that there are people that see no value in getting a higher education is sad, and at the same time disturbing.
College exists to teach people how to live. To exist with people from different backgrounds, different ideologies, different futures. Even if someone goes to college to take on gender studies, you are still getting a higher education. You are still going to learn something.
And people don't get "liberal brainwashed."
It just so happens that going to college and being around new and different people and experiences teaches people to be more understanding of one another. You get exposed to foreigners, minorities, etc. and their lifestyles and cultures. You learn that they are just people going through the same things as you.
Are there students that take certain things too far? Absolutely. Berkeley is one such example.
But to discount getting a higher education simply because of idiotic SJWs is not the way to think. And Fox News seems to have taken a liking to bashing colleges. To bashing intellectual institutions. In bashing the younger, more liberal generation. And it's sickening because their viewers eat it up.
To insult the professors that have spent years studying what they teach is disgusting as well. These are people that have spent their lives learning and developing their knowledge and expertise to teach. They are professionals for a reason.
College is important. Intellectual institutions are important. People should be encouraged to get a higher education.

20 Replies- Cost is going up way beyond inflation. - Education value is going way down unless you stick to stem. - Liberal professors outnumber conservative ones 5 to 1. (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A8427-2005Mar28.html) - Everyone is expected to go now - which greatly undermines the value of a degree. - People think that college makes you smart, but in reality only smart people should go to college. - Colleges promote Marxist and and big government ideologies. This has been common knowledge since the 60's and isn't some kind of conspiracy. - Critical thinking is not taught. - Debt debt debt debt. - Employers (non-government) are starting to prefer experience over education. At the end of the day, as costs rise, job opportunities drop, and the value of a degree falls, people are starting to weigh their options more. Everyone is doing it but conservatives probably do it more because they're more prone to delaying gratification, and because they see the purple-haired monsters that colleges are spitting out. And the "liberal brainwashing" thing is no joke in my anecdotal experience. My art teachers only focused on modern art, my history and English teachers viewed the world through a lens of racial and gender inequality (I even had one teach us from the writings of a communist), my German teacher was literally from the Soviet side of Berlin before the wall came down and she praised communism, there was a feminist psychology teacher who literally hated every boy in the class to the point of frothing at the mouth, etc. The professors who actually taught things related to real world training tended to be better, naturally, but all of the basic classes were infested with far-left teachers. Honestly though, they went from grade school to college, and then graduated to teach college, and never once left their little fantasy land echo chamber and experienced the outside world. Their behavior should be expected in hindsight.

College is a money grab. But if you want a job you have to get a degree. My dad has a high school diploma and was a supervisor at his work. Well, they wanted someone with a degree to supervise so my dad moved down. The dude with the degree had to ask my dad how to do his job everyday.
-
My personal opinion is that if you're easily "brainwashed", as the right likes to say then you're obviously to weak minded to form your own opinions without someone else's influence.
-
Though I share views with both sides, I would be deemed right wing. I personally hate college because college is marketed as a must have to succeed in life, and then costs an ass load. I'm all for higher learning, but due to greedy colleges I do all of my learning from home, be it reading books or roaming the internet. My father, his father, my grandfather's father, all the way back to the 1800s, my family has been self employed in many job fields and succeeded. My father always offered to send me to college, but he also taught me college isn't necessary to make money doing something you love. Now I'm 23 living the American dream through entrepreneurial spirit. College is a sham. Bring back apprenticeships.

Colleges are typically left leaning. If you voice your opinion and it's different from the liberals view there are lasting consequences.
-
This'll sound pretty immature, but I've just seen videos of a liberal majority campus treating conservatives like shit. Probably has something to do with it
-
They are liberal brain washing for naive people (most college students are naive). Have you ever been to Bloomington Indiana? The amount of Bernie bumper stickers could give you an aneurism.
-
I think you answered your own question...they don't. It's not the entire right wing, it's the sellouts and SJWs like you said. The vast majority of people (the silent majority) agree with the common sense that higher education leads to a better knowledge and skill set of an industry, making you more valuable to a company, and leading you to get hired easier and be paid more. I was never forced to believe anything irrelevant in College.

3 RepliesOP is completely missing the point: It's not "hurr durr we hate colleges". We hate professors pushing blatant liberal bias in a setting, and this is the important part, students can be punished for having the wrong opinion. Or, you know, places like uc Berkley literally not being able to handle conservative opinions without a riot. What I do hate though, is people who take massive student loans from the government and then complain when their contemporary art degree doesn't get them a job that pays well enough to actually pay off the loan they signed up for. STEM or skilled trade if you want to get anywhere.

Right-leaning students are uniquely sensitive. They’re unable to handle diverse ideas, and as a result, they turn to censorship (or in extreme circumstances, violence) to shut down opinions they disagree with. Trigger warnings in lectures give students the chance to avoid uncomfortable ideas - a notice given to students before discussing potentially distressing material. To smug detractors, this is proof of right’s inability to toughen up. They are the mental health equivalent of warning someone with epilepsy about flashing lights.

It's almost as if education and social engagement make people more tolerant and respectful of others...

I don't hate college. I just hate sjws. They have created divisions worse than the kkk could have ever hoped to achieve, then the silence people like Ben because he makes too much sense. If you're trying to silence Ben, you have a very malicious agenda. Plain and simple. There's no moral reason otherwise. By the way this video also shows exactly what we mean when we say the left silences the right. Watch the first 20 minutes if you want to feel anger and frustration. It's kind of hard to talk when everyone is shouting. Now you can argue that they're allowed to shout but I mean do you actually want to get something out of this or not? Shouting doesn't exactly further progress. It hinders it. Have a discussion. Ask Ben why he thinks the way he does. He'll be happy to explain. It's not hard people. They even tried to reason with them! They asked them what they wanted! I mean come on. Some of us are trying here man! It takes two to tango though.

4 RepliesThey don't, but it's a pretty well proven fact that the lower the level of education, the more likely a person is to vote right wing / Republican.
-
3 RepliesEducation has a similar result to traveling and experiencing other cultures:
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.
~Mark Twain

1 ReplyWhy does the right hate the left? They hate anything whose intelligence makes them feel inferior
-
I'm pretty sure you're asking the wrong question. Maybe it should be "Why do people who don't value college as highly fall on the right politically, while people who do fall on the left?" The answer to that question is a little more obvious. Reducing the cost of a college education for students is a major part of the left's platform, while the right's platform includes spending less on college-related programs.

Must be all the -blam!-s.......

Not saying anything, but it is easier to control people who are less educated...

college degrees are stating to mean nothing.

1 ReplyEdited by ReignofSpartain: 8/28/2017 4:48:49 PMIts simple. If the facts and findings do not back you... disreguard them as "liberal propaganda". Some think they are smart because they have a questioning and skeptical outlook.. but they question the wrong things and it ends up being stupid not philosophical. Have you seen some people are starting to question the gassing of jews was real? Its a bullet againts neos so they simply rewrite history The state race of forming free/slave states... bleeding kansas... all history ignored because its a argument bullet against them... what do they do? Rewrite history and make it sound noble. This "liberal propaganda" ideology was born recently and is reflective of their movement being new. Education didnt suddenly become liberal. They suddently became radicalized against facts They can yell all they want about the educarion but will still entrust their moms to these "liberally educated" doctors.

Because there is a war on facts and reason. Just look at the current US administration. SAD!

Keep generalizing everyone's opinion

I'm a republican and in college, it all depends where you go and with what mind set.
