If you didn't know already, on Monday August 21, 2017, the moon will pass between the Earth and Sun in an astronomical display that hasn't been visible from the continental U.S. in decades. If you're interested, as I would hope we all are, look into it and save the date, lovelies.
People are traveling far to see it. I hate how the news says in my area we can see it a little. if it is not a full view able eclipse then its not experiencing the total eclipse. they should just say unless you want to travel far your not going to see it. I heard its going to create a ton of traffic in the areas that are view able. so i guess that is one good thing i wont have to deal with all that bad traffic.

Will only be seeing a .8 magnitude. But I'll only be a hour from the one in 2024 so I have that to look forward to.

1 ReplyWell, according to this map, my city will only see a .7 magnitude eclipse from between 11:45am and 12:00pm Mountain Time. However, I will be in class at that time, and I'm sure my professor won't let anyone out to see it. There might be like a 1% higher chance if it was a higher magnitude or if we were in the path of totality, but I still doubt it a lot. Who knows, though? Maybe the Astronomy department at my university will let all their students and faculty and staff leave to see it, or perhaps they'll even try to convince the rest of the university to do the same. Maybe I could ask my university's President to give his approval, but I can't imagine my response back being anything other than hot air about why "our education is more important than anything else, including this solar eclipse." Even if it's the first one to have been seen by the continental USA since like 1979. I'd just leave my class for 5 minutes, but I also value what I learn, and not missing information that will be on heavily weighted exams that is only given to us once verbally, and not being yelled at. So I'm stumped.

1 ReplyI'll only get to see a .9 magnitude eclipse. Which sucks cause seeing a total eclipse is like a bucket list thing for me since I love space related stuff.
