  • I would say so. It's really not so black and white when it comes to gaming. There're many shades of grey. You could have the latest console, or highest performing rig and still only be considered a casual gamer depending on ones passion and time invested into games. Flip that around and say you only are only able to game on mobile devices, you can certainly be considered a hardcore gamer, again given the amount of time invested. I have the original Sonic on my phone, which was the very first game I played way back on the Sega Genesis. That was the game that turned me into a gamer. So to think that a newcomer to gaming could potentially have that same experience through a mobile device would indicate that a gamer is a gamer, regardless of the vessel used.

If you play miniature golf, does that make you a golfer? If you only watch the superbowl, does that make you a sports fan? If you only watch summer blockbusters, does that make you a movie buff? If you drive a car, does that make you a car enthusiast? Calling yourself gamer is not about playing games, it's about games being one of your top hobbies

I don't see why not. It is considered casual gaming but you can play any game you want casually. Does that mean those games shouldn't be considered a part of gaming because of that?

        • I believe being a gamer simply means that you enjoy playing virtual games often. If someone spends a lot of time playing mobile games and enjoys it, then I would certainly consider them a gamer.

id have to say yes as some mobiles can now mirror to a TV and even use a wireless controller. what defines being a gamer in my eyes is someone who plays games and loves to play games, of course there is all sorts of levels of gamerz from ones just having fun to the serious one trying to make it their career. i turely dont think you have to play games for a certain amount of time or anything though. anyone who plays games in their free time or un used time and enjoys playing them in my eyes is a gamer. and anyone who plays games at any given opportunity .

          • There's a difference between gamers and people who play games. Gamers are people like us who follow games and play them constantly and post on gaming forums. There's nothing wrong with people who play games and are not gamers. It's just more of a difference of life styles. People who play games would not have as much fun as gamers would at gaming events or things like PAX

          • Casual gamers id say, but theyd be amazed what it's like to move from candy crush to the new gen console/pc games. They're like the ppl in the medieval times discovering a vacuum cleaner.

              • If we were gamers by playing games like mario on the N64 than they definitely are. Not acknowledging them as authentic also makes you look a bit sad so there's that.

Technically yes, but practically no. Mobile games just aren't real games. PC, Console, and older handhelds require a genuine passion for the hobby, they're mostly useless for anything besides gaming. You don't dump anywhere from $100 to $600 dollars on something you don't care about. I don't mean to sound like a jerk but it's like saying some teenager who drives a prius cares about driving. While yes, he may drive a car he isn't anywhere near as passionate about it as somebody who buys an old muscle car and rebuilds it from the ground up. The person restoring the old muscle car is putting in a significant investment of time, resources, and money. Whereas the teenager in the prius probably doesn't even know what a clutch is. It's the same thing for the Mobile/Facebook games vs Console/PC games. One requires a significant investment the other doesn't

                  • Just because most phone games are shitty or lacking in amazing graphics or gameplay doesn't make them any less a video game.
