CoD and battlefield games are as real life as you can get. Except now CoD has gone off the grid with its sci-fi ways.
Destiny is fictional is the sense of game play. You want realism, then go play ARMA or battlefield.
Not every shooter game needs to be cut and paste from every other shooter game.
And yes, I'm a veteran too and destiny doesn't bother me on its play style because I understand the concept of the game.
It's a game with
Double and Triple Jumping
Energy Shields
Nebulous "Light" powering everything from guns to punches to super powers
You can resurrect someone
You can resurrect yourself
Some guns regenerate ammo
You somehow have 3 giant weapons either digitally teleporting or shoved up your keister
Some guns' ammo clips are literally orbs of blue liquid that slosh around
And the moon somehow has a near-Earth gravity field
Gunplay physics not being accurate... is hardly beyond the game's "normalcy"
I'm all for some realism especially with weapon ballistics but this is a "Space Magic" game.
The style of play you're talking about is great for Battlefield but not for a game that has high mobility, energy based abilities, and supers.
You're putting a little to much emphasis on realism and that's not going to go over well.
