Like anyone who does strikes, I've experienced a ridiculous amount of afk players hoping to sponge off of my hard work. From that asshole spinning in circles in the corner, to that guy walking into a wall repeatedly because he Rubber-banded his controller; we have all experienced this. Instead of going insane with fury I do one simple thing.
Leave. Immediately.
If this entire community for two weeks could commit to leaving strikes when they see some asshole in the corner spinning in circles there would be no more people afking in strikes. People who afk are like dogs, and have an IQ to match. You reward a dog every time it bites you in the ass, that dog is going to keep biting you in the ass. Stop rewarding these afk assholes and they won't do it anymore.
Sure it would suck for a few days, and we would have to sacrifice our streaks, but those couple of weeks of sacrifice would save you years of headache. I understand that things come up, and you may have to step away for a few minutes. Just know that if you are gone for longer than 10 minutes, you are going to return and find yourself alone in the strike. Most strikes don't take much more than 20 minutes to complete, so if you miss more than 10 minutes of it, you really can't complain if everyone leaves. I think it's fair.
Since Bungie can't come up with a viable fix for this, let's do it ourselves. Let's bump and sign this and see if we can get this community on board.
Edit: I realize comparing afk assholes to dogs is a low blow towards dogs. I love dogs. Afk spongers are more like leeches, nobody likes leeches.

I don't revive those players . When they are afk or I push them to their death. They usually quit
-
pretty simple fix. make more joining allies check points. if no kills or assists after 2 check points.. are you still there? pop up for 5 secs and boot. problem solved

Edited by Icon: 9/27/2016 3:42:14 AMI've been leaving for a while now, if I hit a checkpoint and there's one person still in spawn I'll go make a coffee and chill and eventually they leave
-
If someone goes afk I'll just sit next to them until they either start moving or leave
-
1 ReplyThe vanguard streak is a part of the problem
-
2 RepliesThere was an amazing mechanic introduced with the Taken King that still runs to this day, if you don't damage the boss, you don't get loot. Yes, the ones who persistently AFK get annoying, but they're not profiting either.
-
6 RepliesA vote to kick option that only becomes viable once the player has been still for a certain amount of time, so people can't just kick guardians they simply don't like.
-
1 ReplyDid omnigull yesterday and me and the other guy pretty much two manned it and I saw the third just rocking back and fourth in the corner. I have been afk If I get a drink or go to toilet but it's not long and it is really annoying too whygo in strikes if you don't want to do it :(
-
I put on my mic and clearly tell the other guy what I'm doing and I will sit next to the afk guy until he leaves. I don't care how long it takes. I have two tvs side by side and I tell them this. After about 5-6 mins they know I'm serious and they leave every time. I will never carry some lazy sack of shit
-
Good rule of thumb, only do heroic strikes with two friends..
-
better yet make it so if you don't get a kill or are not doing damage to enemies you get kicked for inactivity That would stop rubber band players since spinning or walking into a wall for the whole game would show you not registering any attacks

Edited by C4: 9/27/2016 1:43:23 AMSo many dumb people in this community who completely miss the point of this post. I'm don't reading these comments ,they give me cancer

1 Reply1. Don't play it.
-
I've never come across a spinner or wall-walker. Lots of people who stand there doing nothing though. I report them and then take it slow. They eventually get kicked from the game and then I motor on, getting shiz done.

In betwee strikes i will sometimes step away for a minute or few, match making sometimes take a while, sometimes not. I got back one time only a couple min into it, one guy split and the other sent me a msg: you better step up or do it solo. I reply: fine by me. I would've solo'd it, may have taken a bit longer but i find soloing more challenging and more fun. Funny thing is i got more kills at the end.
-
I like where you're going but it would accomplish nothing. Many people won't have played for the next two weeks and when they return they are going to go back to their old ways
-
5 Repliesits my console and I do what I want to. I see your point but in the end I might have had to run to the door real quick, take a piss, some things that arbitrarily don't take long enough to warrant loosing the vanguard booster. if you don't like it you could always leave as well.

Streaks are a myth.. Bungie scare tactics

1 ReplyLol I went afk for the first time last night in the middle of abomination heist. Was doing the rune part at 11:39 then remembered I had an essay due at 12:00 so I went total afk. I felt so bad for the other two that pushed all the way to phogoth and beat him w out me. But i got the essay done ;)

I love this idea. But the one thing I noticed about the post is that you briefly mention the whole community taking part. I think it's a great idea but the issue with it is that people won't even care like posts below me. They ignore them. Even if I did this, I'd probably only have a strike or two in me.
-
I get my sparrow and push them into a spot where enemies will kill them repeatedly and I can just farm revives. Longest I've spent doing this was 20 minutes before he left. Worth it.

1 ReplyEdited by Spaceman: 9/26/2016 10:56:02 PMHonestly, in the 2 years of playing I probably get 1 AFK player out of every 20 games. It's not a big deal. Most of those players usually come back. Maybe they took a pee break or went to grab some food. I see more posts about this issue than I have actually had a problem. You can't fix a problem that isn't really a problem .
-
I don't leave because of the strike streak boost.
-
Lol did this since day one when ever I saw someone do nothing for the first 3 minutes

3 RepliesThere is obviously problems with AFK abuse but more often than not this is the scenario: PVP You realize that between when a game match ends and when a new one will start can be anywhere from three to TEN minutes depending on the RNG matchmaking in game. So....you leave the console to do any number of things and hope that you come back as you are landing in your next match. Sometimes you come back and you are still searching on average probably 3 of 12 or 1 of 6 depending. Sometimes you come back and you have been booted to orbit because you did not want to stare at a load screen for an indeterminate period of time. AFK is real life folks....get with it.
