It is about damned time! I hope they do this right though!
Full disclosure: I have my own raid team(s) to run the raid with and can raid virtually any time I want. I likely won't use the feature, especially if it is optional matchmaking.
With that stated, I am all for anything that helps remove barriers to accessing content. Sure, it will not be a perfect solution, but nothing in Destiny will ever be perfect. It is a feature that I am sure will work for some, and it may even get more veteran raiders performing the roll of Sherpa for less experienced groups.
Like and bump this post if you think Bungie is doing the right thing by considering matchmaking for raids!

If it's forced that's unfortunate. If it's option like the division that's amazing.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

1 ReplyReally sad...people are too lazy to get some friends, or a group together to do it. Raid matchmaking is a terrible idea.

6 RepliesEdited by Psykotikphayze: 9/1/2016 3:32:59 PMI like how all the people against it act like none of the bad things ever happen in LFG made teams. People lying about mics? it happens there too. AFK'ers (troll and otherwise)? it happens there too. People who don't know anything at all about the raid and lying about it? it happens there too. Trolls and asshats in general? it happens there too. And so much more... All that would be needed would be a way to remove the negative element from a given group (vote kick), there really would be no difference! That is the only real way you have to deal with it now anyway. People need to get off their high horses and admit that it isn't all perfect in LFG land either, bad stuff happens there too.

3 RepliesEdited by Lost Sols: 8/28/2016 1:32:33 AMI've stated this many times, but the way to implement this is thru private lobbies... Exactly like they're using for the private PvP matches. Someone hosts a lobby just like they will for PvP, only instead of choosing PvP map/playlist options, they set requirements for random players (LL, connected mic, etc) as well as the # of spots open for mm. Hosts have the ability to kick, but the function is disabled once a boss fight starts and remains disabled for 2 minutes after a successful boss kill/reward drop. They could set it up to where players queuing to join could 1) search for what raid, full run, specific boss or any 2) search as a group with friends if they'd rather join than host This shit is so doable without dumbing down content... If done right. The last caveat I'd throw in its that I would ONLY do this for normal mode. Hard mode I would not implement this.

3 RepliesNope. Won't happen. See this taken from one if the gameinformer interviews taken recently :
When you guys first started developing raids for the first time, philosophically were there things that set a raid apart from the rest of the content in Destiny that you’re like ‘Okay this is what makes something a raid as opposed to a strike?’ Absolutely, there was a mandate that we had the ability to break the rules. No matchmaking is a huge thing. We can design with the assumption that you're playing with people who you are invested with. Even if they’re not your friends, you've put some amount of investment in being able to play with them and they’re not this resource to you. The fact that we can account for you having voice communication is big.
Link to interview

83 RepliesEdited by Raider TCK: 8/27/2016 8:06:55 PMTo anyone who thinks raid matchmaking would be a good idea. Post on the forums that you are taking new players through kings fall. No mic required. No level requirement. No gear or weapon requirements. All unexperienced players. Then try and do the raid without communicating with any of them. Now come back and tell us how you think a matchmade raid would go. Where you have no control over who joins. Nobody communicates. Etc If you get it done in the next 12 hours without having to kick them, Without having to get replacement players, record it and send me a link and I will send you $100 via PayPal. Edit: to all those saying 'optional'. Matchmade raids would have a 100% failure rate. This would result in the raids being nerfed.

It won't work. Half your team won't have mics and the rest will be super casuals.
-
It better be optional.

14 RepliesIt's funny how all of the elitist douches talk about all of the reasons why there shouldn't be matchmaking. If it is optional, how would that effect anyone who doesn't choose matchmaking? I don't like raiding but that's my choice. If there is raid matchmaking and someone wants to use it how does it affect someone who lfg's a team? It doesn't!!!!! So grow up you toxic little bitches and realize the world doesn't revolve around you!!! Even if Mommy says it does!!!!

1 ReplyImo, it should be implemented in game since day 1 for every single activitity. If dont want to take the risk of playing with randoms, you can just join your friends,or go to lfg forums. Cant realy understand why this isnt a thing already. Cheers
-
Not all the ideas you guys come up with are good ones. Raid match making will be a COMPLETE shit show. Stuff not spawning. Lag. People afk. The list will go on and on.
-
I doubt they will lol this has been discussed since vanilla and bungie tends to ignore the subject
-
3 RepliesIm hoping they actually implement this in some way. Raid numbers are so slow, they should be finding a way to get more players involved.
-
I look at it as both a good and bad idea. With something like 70% of all Destiny players not ever played a raid, its a good idea. It will give them a chance to play and work with a team and see what they have been missing. The bad part is, its a bunch of randoms and trying to keep an entire team together for a raid will be next to impossible. People will just up and quit because of one reason or another. But at least it will let a huge percentage of players have a taste of what its like and then they may take advantage of LFG or one of the other sites to do a raid with a group. It amazes me how many people are so shy that they can't even respond to a LFG ad. Come on people! Get out of your shell and join us all in the sun. You'll have fun and never regret it. Being shy only hurts one person, thats you.

12 RepliesEdited by MISTER TORGUE: 8/27/2016 9:23:34 PMI feel like Bungie is putting it in just to please the scrubs at this point. They know along with anyone with a brain, that raid matchmaking will never work. Just look at the people it gives you for strikes.. I hope they do it actually. People will be trolled.

3 RepliesEdited by chickengoujohn93: 8/27/2016 9:43:54 PMI don't want Raid matchmaking and optional matchmaking brings about it's own similar problems. If you are too lazy to load up LFG and find a team that's your problem. If you are one of those guys who can't get into an LFG team because of discrimination for various reasons such as not having a mic, lack experience, low light level etc. then these three steps might help... 1. Buy a mic 2. Play Wrath of the Machine or any future Raid as early as possible, blind run completion by the first weekly reset is important. 3. Keep with the pack (do your Raids as often as possible) Three simple steps in which you will never have to rely on Bungie bringing matchmaking to ever play a Raid or people discriminating against you on LFG in favor of more experienced players ever again. You can be that person people favor on LFG. Other Tips: Squeakers: Be mature and let your teamwork, Raid experience and Light Level do the talking Shy players: Don't be intimidated. Nobody knows who you are nor can they see you. Be yourself listen and answer questions related to the Raid mechanics when applicable. Simple yes and no or even one worded call outs is all it takes for a Raid to go smoothly. If you make a mistake and somebody screams at you don't be offended. Laugh it off, put them back in their place or leave and find another team. If they boot you do not deter from finding another fireteam. All LFG Veterans would be lying if they said they haven't been booted at least once from a fireteam.

2 RepliesGood, I'll spend all day trolling the -blam!- out of people.
-
If they do raid matchmaking and you ever get partied up with one of the thumbless blueberries that frequent heroic strikes.... you might change your mind. Haha.
-
Hopefully they put an option to kick, you have to get at least 3 people to vote.,that way you can go in with a fire team of 5 and kick the random just before rewards
-
1 ReplyThe only time I would ever enter a raid with randoms would be if I was drunk and needed a laugh.
-
3 RepliesRaid matchmaking will be about as successful as No Man's Sky. I have never played any sort of online game with raid MMO elements where matchmaking went well. Raids are built upon communication and effort. Veteran raiders know what it takes and won't use it. Newbs will use it and utterly fail and go back to actually doing the right thing and socially looking for team mates. I'd rather have a say in regards to who I raid with. Because who wouldn't love queuing into Wrath with 5 teammates, 2 of which have no mics, a few have little to no prior exp in raiding anything, and maybe if you're lucky only 1 will be equipped with a proper setup to handle a raid. Raiding in games is prestigious for a reason. It actually requires you to put forth effort.

8 RepliesEdited by turdferguson00: 8/28/2016 4:25:47 PMWhy are people being so intentionally ignorant? Why do you all believe it's basic strike matchmaking? Don't you think, just maybe, they haven't implemented mm because such a system would be obviously flawed? If they do decide to finally add mm to raids, it will be robust with the needed systems in place (reputation system, light requirements or even previous completions etc)
