Comfirmed by poodlecorp themselves. Just wanted to warn pokemon go players that pokemon go will be hacked and shut offline for 24 hours on Augest 1st.

Sure, it's totally not just trying to see how many of their friends they can get to join them in starting the game up that day to try and clog the servers like they are at any time a majority of people find themselves able to play. Hell, they could just be trying to think it's cool to take the blame for general server issues. Or maybe they're actually trying to make people think that it will be of no use for anyone to play on the first so they can play on their friends without having to worry about server issues.

Like how hacker groups say they will "hack" PSN and Xbox Live every Christmas. They just rely on everyone getting new games then playing them all at the same time.
