so i was playing in the crucible last night and got to wondering, whats the actual player pool who play trials? I'm not someone who's here to complain about how hard / competitive it is. I'm just wondering if that competition (and frustration for some within) is a direct result of way fewer "average" players even entering the activity. trials should be sweaty and hard and competitive as its considered end game pvp. but my guess is less than 10 % of the player base is active in it. That 10% is probably made up of the top tier players. Then you consider time zones and when people are actually allowed to play, the pool shrinks even more. Conversely, if more average players entered, more average players might have a chance to do better? MM is card based, so we can eliminate skill from that equation. my hope is that I'm right and more regulars like me enter, increasing the space not only for us to actually get better, but increase the odds of playing someone we have a better chance to best.
i dont know. but i thought it was an interesting question. i notice that quite a few people dont understand elo, so for simplicity sake i used kd in this poll.
EDIT : Realized i wasn't exactly clear. Just want to know if you play and where u fall in the range. i know the forums isn't the best sample size, but getting the conversation going is better than not at all. cant hope for change if its never addressed.

2 RepliesWhat if my KD is exactly 1.5???

Trials shouldn't be changed, this is my new account. I've just started going to the lighthouse at least once a week when I get online. I often don't even play to get flawless. I'll rock no boons and have some fun, maybe help some guys to 5 or 7 wins occasionally, if I can get there with my friends there's no excuse lol.
-
People need to play it for the fun. I play every weekend, and I don't always get flawless runs. I enjoy the elimination set up, and the competitiveness of it.
-
I play trials a bit, not absolutely loads, but I'm genuinely starting to recognise players I'm up against now since I encounter them week after week.
-
You didn't ask the question Assuming that the question is: "Do you play Trials, and where does your KD lie?" The KD brackets are too broad and average KDs are lower

Edited by SKILES85: 7/15/2016 12:33:05 AMThe armor always looks sick. I play enough to get a few pieces but that's all I really want out of trials. It can be fun in small doses, but normally I don't like playing it safe. I don't want to let my team down, so I can't really play how I want to, which is pretty much kamikaze. I play pvp the same way I play golf. The feeling of a great shot is worth risking the hazard. If I see a hammer fly by, I'm like F it, let's see what they think of my new havoc pigeon! I'm not trying to die, but I'll risk it for the smallest chance of something awesome happening. It's usually a hassle trying to get a group for trials anyways. If I'm in the mood for some pvp, I'd rather click 1 button and be playing in regular crucible or IB. I don't really know what the question is so this is just my opinion on trials.

Unfortunately, having more average players in the pool will only help other average players gate 1 or 2 more wins. The top 10% will be waiting at 6 wins and above. I imagine that would actually make it easier for the tryhards. They would have a better chance to get matched with average players later in their cards. Very few ways to make it easier for average players. One is to eliminate players from the pool after a flawless run. But i don't agree with that. Or y0ou could add some sbmm. But we know how most of us feel about that as well. Hard to find a good solution. But I do think the participation of non top 10% players will probably continue to drop. Which will eventually force bungie to either change the game mode or get rid of it. And I don't think they are going to get rid of it.

Don't like Trials... Normal Crucible does it for me

What's the question?

Edited by bilbo t baginzz: 7/14/2016 11:55:20 PMI have no idea what your question is so i have no idea how to answer it. What am i answering yes or no too?

3 RepliesWhat's the question exactly?

Remember that forum is not the whole destiny population..... Just to keep in mind

K/d is under 1.5 and have played trials the last 3 weeks just for shits and giggles. It's sweaty as all hell but it's a bit of fun.
-
20 Replies1.1-1.3 KD, haven't been flawless. I had fun last weekend with my trusty fusion rifles, yes, even if it was Widow's Court. 😆
-
3 RepliesI like how you used 1.5 as a benchmark when literally the smallest percentage of the community would be above that
-
1 ReplyI wish they would make hardcore trials with no revives, one mistake and you are dead for the rest of the round! Also, I play trials to help others, dont really care about kd though
-
2 RepliesGive me a reason to play. I mean let's face it, IB is more fun and the rewards are better.
-
I haven't really been going to Destiny all that recently for the competition recently. I've been going to CS:GO for that. It's gotten pretty stale for me, I just hop on for a raid now and then with some friends

1.75 kd and 1.4 on my characters, only been playing destiny since January and trials is the reason I keep playing. Without that competition this would be a boring game. The need to challenge yourself against better players and play differently to overcome better players is what keeps it interesting. It's also the reason why so many of the top tier players got their start in the halo series. I am also one of them, started on halo ce release date and yes I'm that old that I've legitimately been playing competitively since then.

2 RepliesYear 1 I barely played PvP and I was awful when I did. Since year 2 and even more recently since the raid has gotten stale I've seen my KD rise significantly, but I still don't really like trials. It's just too sweaty for me to enjoy in a casual game like Destiny. If I feel like some really competitive gameplay, I'll put in Overwatch. Destiny just doesn't have the mechanics down well enough for me to want to push through a sweatfest like trials is.
-
I am over 1.5kd. I just find 6v6 more interesting. 3v3 is just a sniperfest and it's boring to me.
-
ToO is too frastrating I chose not to do it any more.

2 RepliesEdited by ibawj: 7/14/2016 8:05:45 PMMy kd shows around 1.07, 1.10 and 1.11 for all 3 characters. Weekly average is 1.30. I wont restart just to up my KD. Season one elo was 1803 now currently 1716 I believe. 48 Flawless runs.

I've tried a few times since ttk released. Furthest I've ever been was the 5th round. Overall kd (in all modes) is .92 right now, but DTR says I'm top 5% of all crucible players. Maybe if I had more reliable regulars, but my usual teammates like to rush in and die super quickly, and a 3v1 clutch isn't something I'm gonna pull off more than 30%(maybe) of the time. Maybe one day, but not anytime soon.

you will never get the majority of the trials players to accept any change that will adversely affect their ability to go to the lighthouse on a regular basis. They will preach to you about getting gud etc yet when faced with the possibility of having to work harder for a win, to get better with practice etc, they balk. You are certainly correct in that many players do not play trials and then the pool is dominated by the dominant players yet not by the best, simply by those who get through the card match making process.

2 RepliesI know ppl who have a 1.0 kd who have been flawless many times and hasn't been carried once. Kd is a good reference but there are the exceptions. That said even mediocre players can go flawless after practicing a little and getting used to the pressure. See its kinda like the super bowl.if a team who has never been flawless goes into the 9th match against a team who has been flawless many times who do you think will win. You have to make it to the super bowl of destiny pvp a time or 2 before you can gain the confidence to not choke and then..let your skill carry you. Not someone else..my 2 cents
