Bungie, you're still missing the point.

I'm reading through the " This Week at Bungie - 6/23/2016" and I just get the overwhelming feeling that Bungie is focusing their attention on irrelevant things. The first thing that stood out to me was "We tried something new to help you find your friends in the activities you want to play." I haven't seen to much commotion about "finding friends" in-fact this is a redundant update as you could previously see where your friends where by checking the roster. Furthermore, who cares about "finding friends" the majority of players in destiny want customs, I want to find my friends in customs, whats the use of "finding friends" if we can't play against them? C'mon Bungie. Why waste time updating such useless stuff, I just don't get it. DeeJ then explains why for "science" purposes they made updates to the blade dancer, and gunslinger. Which is just more proof they don't even play crucible enough to even understand the dynamics. Gunslingers and Bladedancers did not "reign supreme", I'll explain my take of it shortly. First, they showed a graph from only 6v6 playlist, this is the first mistake. Roaming supers in a 6v6 are always going to dominate for that exact reason. You can "roam" while in them. It doesn't take long to figure out that you're going to average more kills as a blade dancer or gunslinger in a 6v6 playlist opposed to a striker titan, bubble, bow, or nova. Thats just common sense. These classes aren't "reigning supreme", they are offensive roaming supers. Again, C'mon Bungie. It makes little sense how there are 6v6, 3v3, and the occasional 2v2 playlist, and the rational behind updating and entire class is based off of information gathered from just one of those categories? Moving on, they go to explain " When one Class becomes the default choice for anyone who wants to do well in the Crucible, we see that as a problem. We chose to bring the Hunters down from their position of dominance because it is our hope that every variety of Guardian will have a fighting chance." I mean at this point it's evident they don't play crucible. No one was complaining about bladedancers or Gunslingers? I just don't understand the "science", the data is exactly what I expect it to be, for the reasons I mentioned previous. In 6v6 roaming offensive supers will be dominant. Thats just obvious, absolutely no one had the mindset that blade dancer/gunslinger guaranteed a win. Just doesn't make sense. I understand the thought process but it just doesn't coincide with what actually goes on in crucible. Play your game like the rest of us, get an actual feel for the game, and learn what is a problem and whats not by experience and not spreadsheets.

  • As a titan main I think the only concern I had with hunter was nightstalker. They were worst than sunsingers to an extent. Everything else completely thrown me off like "why did they nerfed throwing knives?" I barely ever died by those things, and if you ask me they took more skill than anything else in this game. But tbh, I'm loving the nerfs xD titans reign supreme again finally, dont have to worry about wombo combo, or burning for days or even sticky trip mines which was also wierd for them to nerf, but nonetheless since I don't main hunter I'm glad with the changes:)

Tell me this. If, according to your own logic for most of the other changes, you want to make the options more balanced so choices are more about preference than anything else, why nerf "escape artist"? Nobody uses it, let alone complains about it. Literally the only time people used it was as the swordrunner on Crota in year one...

    • Show us the 'many complaints' about how annoying throwing knife is Better yet show us the may crucible data that proves that throwing knife was more OP than thunderstrike You can't because neither exist

          • They should call the people not the balance team nerfherds because they herd the nerfs of every thing into the pen called the crucible. P.S.: Get this Star Wars reference do you?

          • Also, did Bungie state they were nerfing incendiary grenades? I guess it was a ninja nerf since before patch I was doing 7 damage for 3 ticks. Now it is 4-5 damage for 4 ticks. Any reasoning behind that?

          • Bungie will never come out with custom matches for Destiny, and here's why. They are trying not to make this game too much like Halo. They are overshadowed by their past with making Halo, and want Destiny to be its own game. I would be ecstatic if Bungie were to bring forward custom games and a ranked playlist, but that will never happen.

It's becoming painfully obvious that the people in charge of the game are like virgins on prom night: playing by feel and hoping for the best with no real clue of what's going on.

I really enjoyed the fact that they realize that Hunters were "Gnashing their teeth." We don't do that without reason, and you clearly pissed some people off. Personally, I don't think that's a sustainable plan of action for your game. Also, they gave a short, one liner to tell us about Iron Banner. Completely skipping the outrage lots of people had, and never explaining why they are breaking everything left and right. Edit- Also, what the hell! The chart shows Gunslingers and Bladedancers are in a 1.05-1.1 K/D ratio. Why does a tenth of a person count as overpowered? Maybe we should just stop giving feedback... it never gets used anyway.

Bump. It is very sad how little evidence there is that Bungie's employees take the time to get good and understand their own game. For example, Warframe's DE Rebecca is destroying anyone who plays her in their new game mode Lunaro and she is really good at the rest of the game as well. It seems Bungie has a combination of problems combining the lack of evidence that they play their game in depth (how many hours have they played?) and their research team looking at the "graphs" is complete shit and needs a major overall as the OP clearly pointed out.

                    • I agree completely Bungie is not communicating with the Community (especially people in the community who have clocked in more hours in the Crucible then their crew has) about how to balance the game but rather are relying on statistics that should be taken with a cup of salt. Correlation is not causation. Things are much more complicated then a few cheap statistics. What kind of players are playing certain subclasses or weapons? Is a subclass or weapon powerful all the time, or only in certain combat scenarios? How does it compare to other subclasses, classes, or weapons? What is the community feedback? It would seem that Bungie makes their nerfing calls based on individual cases often involving really skilled players. It's a mystery why they haven't nerfed the No Land Beyond based on their nerfing logic (the average player stinks with it, but skilled players are very lethal with it). Please Bungie I implore you to talk with the community before you call the shots.

                    • Nice post. I primarily play as a warlock but hunter is my #2 and I can appreciate why hunters are upset about this. I agreed with a lot of your post but the one item you suggest is that they need to play their game like the rest of us. I actually think that the opposite problem is happening...they're overthinking it too much. They play in the sandbox all day and tweak and play to a point where I begin to ask "are they seeing things that aren't there?" They are the scientists of Destiny that understand every number and detail but the problem is they lose the context of the impact on the player and have lost concept of the player experience. The reality I wish they would realize is that game developers can NEVER see the game with the same set of eyes as their players. I don't blame them. It's the nature of creating something. The problem is that they want to control how a player enjoys the game which is something that they can never do. They can influence that experience, YES, but they can't datamine our experiences and analyze it. I love the concept of Destiny and have my fair share of hours. IN the end, this game has been overbaked. Imagine taking Mario's jump and releasing the game. Tons of players fall in love with the game, master speed runs and make the millions of youtube videos that have been made with Mario and then every 3 months they change how Mario jumps. All those hours...all those experiences are taken away from people. It would not be the classic it is today. This same concept we have seen with Star Wars and Lucas endless touch ups that have ruined it for many. What Bungie still fails to realize is while Destiny is their property, the experience is uniquely each our own. It's their right to change it, but each time they do they alter our memories and history with the game which severs our attachment to it.

                      • What I took from that graph was that the classes in the middle are the most played giving them a wider spread of K/D while Gunslingers and Bladedancers have a smaller spread of people playing them so mostly the people who have developed a lot of skill with them are being represented. Seriously I barely ever saw any of them in PVP, it was all Nightstalkers. Bubbletitans makes sense in this regard too since it is a class with a high skill cap so people play here and there trying to figure out how to even play it in PVP.

                      • My thing is, they focus on K/D saying that "everyone uses it" but that doesn't prove how many people use it or the number of matches won. Also, Hunters are a low armor class (supposedly) and if that's the case, people are gonna know how to hang back and provide supporting fire (via sniper or nades) until the time to strike is right (opponents grouped w/ super charged) and probably die while in super or sometime after. People are apparently over focused on only K/D and I think this gave us a glimpse of why a lot of the "tweaks" over do it. ... at least that's my opinion. Correct me as you will.
